He's an abusive alcoholic, she's had enough. He's begging her to stay, because he's seen hope through the haze, but he lacks the will to change for the better. "Everybody gets what they deserve... but I could be wrong, cause I could never live with me before you came along." This line beautifully highlights the problem with finding yourself in another person... you're not fixing your own problems, you're just using that person to cover them up. When that cover starts to look thin, and you can't hide behind them anymore, you've got to find something else to hide behind... |

The lyrics as they appear are missing a line... the section appearing as: 'He whistles and he runs so hold him fast He might succumb to what you haven't seen' should be: He whistles and he runs so hold him fast Breathe the burn, you've got to let it last He might succumb to what you haven't seen that said, I agree with the interpretations here, and the original EP version of the song lines up well with those. I like the Antics version better, though. :) |
