Alanis Morissette – Underneath Lyrics 17 years ago
i think that she's saying that we are quick to note all the negative that's occurring throughout the world, yet we aren't addressing our own problems at home, whatever they may be. once we choose to better ourselves and the people around us, then we, as a world community, can work towards a greater common good globally. one of my professors once said, "no one can live forever, it simply isn't possible. but what you can do is influence others. and that will live on eternally." i think this is so true. it's the whole pay it forward theory/movement. karma is so real, and how you treat and influence others will come right back to you. instead of complaining about how bad the world is, make it better by fixing broken relationships, thinking before speaking, and following your heart. i know i went off on a major tangent here, but i think that if everyone bettered themselves individually, the world would be a better place.

Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 17 years ago
what people have previously failed to mention is that their album, "Viva La Vida" was named after a painting by Frida Kahlo. the entire album was inspired by their Latin American tour in 2006. the band also spent some time in Barcelona, Spain, and anyone who has been there knows that art is a MAJOR influence there. the song may be influenced by French painter Eugene Delacroix's painting "Liberty leading the people," which references the French Revolution, since this is the artwork used for the album cover.

therefore, the song may be about the French Revolution, but remember that the Hispanic influence (as well as the literal Spanish meaning of "live the life") is the major component in this album.

great song, i can't stop listening!

Ferras – Everybody Bleeds The Same Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is about war. i'm not sure if it pertains to the wars in iraq or afghanistan, but i think the overall message is that no matter who it is who's killed, that person has a family, friends, people who he/she loves and people who love him/her back. at the end of the day, it doesn't matter which side you are on, because so many lives have been lost on both sides, and "everybody bleeds the same"....i hope that one day we don't have to invade another person's homeland in order to die for ours.

Primitive Radio Gods – Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song. i love the video as well. whenever i listen to it, i just think about LIFE. simple as that. everything that is a constituent of it: faith, religion, time, fate, control (or lack of), money, etc.

the lyrics just take your mind out of your body, if you can understand that.

definitely the most poignant line of the song, in my opinion, is "if i die before i learn to speak, can money pay for all the days i lived awake but half asleep?" -garners me speechless. i think speak can be a metaphor for living..if i die before i truly live, and not just live like the average person but live the life you want to live - whether it be traveling the world, or generally just doing something you truly want to do and not "need" to do by society's standards - then how can i monetarily pay for it? which is sad because our society is controlled by money, when in truth it doesn't matter how much money you have because money cannot buy time. but no matter how many times we tell ourselves that, the common goal for many people is to have so much money. it's so depressing but it's like we can't escape it.

i think we ride the waves and don't ask where they go because we don't want to know. if we put too much thought into what's going on then reality hits and we finally realize that ultimately, no matter what, we're going to die.

God i could analyze every line! i love it, no matter how depressing it is. songs like this help me reflect on my life and the world around me.

Timbaland – Apologize Lyrics 18 years ago
i like all the previous descriptions and meanings, and i think the song replies more to a lovers' relationship, but i can also relate to it with my best friend. she has me on the shelf and she only wants me when it's convenient to her. we don't speak anymore and it hurts a lot to lose a best friend, but on the same token, i don't want to be friends with her again because then she'll think she can do it again, and i don't want to put myself through this again. i would love to just blast this song with her in the room and be like, fuck you. that will never happen, but anywho, that's how i relate to it. in my opinion, the most poignant aspect of the song is that the first and last lines are the same. i love it.

Damien Rice – 9 Crimes Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song. it seems to me like the relationship is over, but neither person wants to end it. neither person really put in much effort in the first place, and the spark that may have initially been there is gone. i think it's possible that the guy or girl cheated on the other person, and he/she feels guilty about it. then at the end she abruptly says "no" which i think is the last ditch effort to save the relationship, but then he realizes it's too late. she's broken beyond repair.

Damien Rice – Rootless Tree Lyrics 18 years ago
i love damien rice. i must admit that although i'm a fan, i'd never heard this song until his concert. he played it during the encore, following 9 crimes...so emotional. in concert he plays it on the piano and while i like that version, i think i like this one more. i love how the pace gets really fast when he's saying, "fuck you" but it slows down again at the end. i think it's the raw emotion in this song that is so appealing.

this is my personal opinion, but it seems like he's getting out of a relationship and he's saying to the other person as well as himself, "we keep arguing about the same things over and over and no matter how much we pretend everything's okay, we're just faking it." i think it's just that final point when you decide to end a relationship and you're realizing that it was over long before it's actually over. now he's saying, you're torturing me at this point, just let me out. i can't keep doing this to you, and more importantly, i can't keep doing this to myself."

leave it to damien to compare a relationship to a rootless tree. genius.

Lindsay Lohan – Confessions Of A Broken Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song and it definitely hits a chord with me because my father left when i was 12. though he's still a part of our lives, he's never been really there for me..so this song definitely makes me think of that...and i'm the oldest so i had to help my mom raise my 3 younger sisters....i love the video too because it really shows a deeper side to lindsay..not only did this happen to her, but the cameras are constantly watching her every move and reporting on her family...if you wonder why she has issues with guys, drinking, and drugs....listen to this song a few more times...

Lindsay Lohan – Beautiful Life (La Bella Vita) Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song because it really applies to her life...she lives a beautiful fabulous life, but deep down, even though it is beautiful, she still has her days, just like every other normal person..but she's reassuring herself that everything will be alright...if you go to youtube there's lots of videos of her with this song and they're pretty cool

Pink – Who Knew Lyrics 18 years ago
i can't stop listening to this song...it reminds me of my best friend..we were best friends for 7 years and then i was going through a really hard time this summer and she wasn't there for me like a true friend....i never looked at her and thought, we won't be friends...and now that's reality and i'm starting to cope with that....the last verse though doesn't apply to friendships, so it could be about a relationship also...but that's what it means to me...ciao

Filter – Take A Picture Lyrics 18 years ago
this song always makes me think of celebrities...

"could you wanna take my picture, cause i won't remember" -the paparazzi taking pictures of them constantly

"i don't believe in your sanctity, your privacy" -the paparazzi's point of view...

i agree with other points of views/stories/beliefs about his dad, but when i think of the song i picture a celebrity walking out of a club and the lights just flashing and flashing

Minus the Bear – Pachuca Sunrise Lyrics 18 years ago
great song....when i studied in spain, we went to valencia for a long weekend, which is right on the mediterranean..we spent one full day at the beach...we watched the sunset and i just listened to this song...while i didn't have a boyfriend at the time, it made me think of everyone back home and how much i would've loved for them to just be there taking it in....all in all, a really great song to listen to while traveling

Peter Bjorn and John – Up Against the Wall Lyrics 18 years ago
likewise surprised by the lack of comments...this song is pretty deep if you take a few minutes to really listen to it...i think it's about knowing a relationship is over long before it's over...it slowly unravels but then it just hits i.e. "your slap is like a wake-up call"...but towards the end it's as if he's blindsighted by it, even though subconsciously he knew it was coming all along...

Dashboard Confessional – The Shade of Poison Trees Lyrics 18 years ago
this is by far the best song on the new album. i listened to the entire album and i must say, i was a little disappointed. but this song definitely hits me...however i'm not quite sure what it means...

this is just my interpretation, but the lyrics seem to suggest that it's about someone who's dying (maybe from a disease such as cancer) and they just found out...now they're wondering, what should i do? do i have time to fulfill everything i wanted to do? anyway that's just my thought

"if you knew what i know, would you try?" -if you knew that i was dying, and you were in my shoes, what would you do? continue living or give up
