To me, she is posing the question "Is where I'm headed only worth stopping here? And since here isn't so great, should I continue down this course?"
Also, I don't think urbandictionary is a reliable source, and for people basing their opinion on the video, there are videos that have nothing to do with the song, such as those directed by Michele Gondry. |

Funny, I didn't think of sarcasm until I read the lyrics, but I do agree with podobaby now that I've read them.
I did used to think this song came from someone that thrives on drama or gossip, and finds when things are going well that they are just bored. |

She could also be referencing a past relationship of his, someone he's talked to her about, and obviously cared about at some point.
In this light, every time he tries to tell her how much he loves her, she just gets hurt more. |

It seems a typical gimmick of Sam's to use a juxtaposition for lyric, and he also seems to have a thing for racial discrimination, so here's my proposal: If a man and a woman were of different races, but they were happy, enjoying their lives, but could still see discrimination all around them, hence the references to love, perfume, nice things we associate with a good, loving life, but yin and yang dictate that there must be an opposing force: hatred. Has anybody wondered what it might look like to see a mob in sheets on your lawn? |

I had always thought the Lyric was "Make me a beast half as brave, I'd be the same," meaning he's only half as brave as his lover. |

The Dandelion is a fish (a very delicate fish) that had to be placed in a pressurized/sealed container in order to bring it back to the surface. (My dad heard this track and recognized the source instantly.) |

| Boards of Canada – One Very Important Thought Lyrics

To me, this statement means you can't allow someone else to convince you to let them think for you. For example; I live in a small town, and I went looking for BoC albums at Sam Goody. When I asked the clerk, he vehemently remarked, "We don't carry that kind of stuff here." At the time, Sam Goody was one of two music stores in the area, excluding the popular/hits music sections of local department stores. To me, that means someone else is making the decisions about what I can hear. And that is why this track exists, to show people to think for themselves and decide for themselves what they (themselves) should avoid. |

The last number in chronological order is 36. The last number spoken is 23. Thirty-six is equal to six squared. The digits of twenty-three multiplied make six. Altogether you have three sixes. That's what I derived from sitting and writing down every number she said. And numbers are fun. |

I think the word "best" carries two meanings here. First, that God is a wonderful secret, something good that we have. Second, that this generation has made no effort to change the fact that to some, God is still a secret. |

I do like how John can always find some way to incorporate some sort of masochistic vein into a song about loving someone. And by the way euphoria 277, this is actually more like part four of "Locked in a Cage," if you count "You Take My Rights Away," as part two and "The Thirst" as part three.
And I'm fairly certain that water "pours," and has no money, so it is "poor." |

This is one of Sam's that stands out lyrically. It has a Medival feel, with the speak of weaving things into hair, and making her own clothes, it seems like a shy stable boy in his teens trying to court a well-to-do farm girl. Beautiful image. |

An obvious demonstration of love, and more of the love from the speaker to the recipient than vice-versa, saying, "If you can see/get past the beast I think of myself to be, I have the best love for you, the kind that will take care to move the obstacles, pain, and people that stand in your way, and I'll put my job second."
I missed all the sexual innuendoes, but they do fit. I've always found his lyrics sensual. |

Thank you, TheRecluse. The sum of the pieces of art are never worth more than the sum of their whole. I can't sing this song for the same reason. |

| Iron & Wine – Sodom, South Georgia Lyrics

When I first heard the lyrics, I was totally lost, until I started trying to make sense of it, and my conclusion was that the overall statement was things are not always what they seem, and the revelation is brought on by the death of Papa and the birth of Edith. The contrast of the joy of the birth of his daughter juxtaposed with the death of his father seemed like the storyteller was expressing remorse that his father never saw his granddaughter. With that remorse, the good church-going people would no doubt point out that "God giveth and God taketh away," never mind the order, and never mind the bad timing. |
