Additional Hint: this is sung by a male voice except the "Please forgive me..." part, that comes as a kind of female reply. I think the meaning is quite clear and it is nothing new or innovative about this very lyrics. Guy has lost his love and is drowning in grief and hopelessness. So the lyrics do not make this song special, and neither does the melody or the arrangement. It is good, but it is no breakthrought or something unheard before. Still, it is a well made song and I like it very much and hope that more like this comes from Serentity in the future. |

Obviously, this is about Communication. I think the translation he speaks about is not one spoken language to another but the problem with any spoken language, that if you try to translate your feelings and emotions into words, no matter how hard and poetic you try, you never quite get it. The "vibrations of a string" that "become a sound" are the vocal cords in his throat that form the words he speaks. And these words come "from my heart to your ears". So he is talking to someone trying to explain his feelings, and realizing it won't work he has to admin that to much gets "lost in translation". But still, whatever it is he says, it is something sad, cause his word make the recipient cry: "transforming words to tears". Great Song, this one. |

Falls es irgendwer nicht wissen sollte: Der Text ist wortwörtlich aus der Bibel, 1. Korinther Brief, 13. Kapitel (irgendeine ältere Luther-Übersetzung, würde ich sagen...). Übrigens musikalisch toll umgesetzt. |

Let me remember you that this website is called "Songmeanings" - I also love this song, but as not native english speaking I actually wonder what it MEANS. LEO told me what "For crying ou loud" means. But what I don't get is the change in the last stanza - it is no longer For crying out loud - YOU know I love you but For crying out loud loud - FOR that I love you. Is it only my twisted mind, or could one really interpret a sexual climax into this? I mean, the moment she is literally crying out loud, that is the moment when he knows that he really loves her? |

Tja, wenn der Song wirklich für die ist, die erkannt haben, dass das Leben zu kurz ist, um nichts zu wagen, dann ist er wohl leider nicht für mich... Anders gesagt: Ich ärger mich, dass ich den Hintern nicht hoch kriege - aber der Song hilft beim Anlauf nehmen... P.S.: Bin ich der einzige, der das Gefühl hat, als würde Klee mit der Zeit eher schlechter als besser? Mal ehrlich, "Zwei Herzen" ist schwach! |

The Ship was sunk in April 1940 -> Wail my April moon. It was morning -> DIm is the light of a new day It was before Norway -> Land of the undying sun 830 people died. I think one of these deads is the narrator of this song. In the opening of the song you can hear part of the "Our Father" in german and a crewman speaking to his captain in german. I think one member of Kamelot is german. In fact, I am a bit afraid Kamelot might fancy Nazi-Stuff because they make this reference to a third-reich war ship. |

This one of Jim Steinmans (Meat Loafs Songwriter) greatest songs to me. The emotions are very strong. You love someone, you know that you are cheated by her, you are angry and jealous but you still love her. Good example that a song can express more than the words itself. The song was first published on Steinmans Solo Album "Bad for good" in 1981. There, it contained the following introduction: "Where did he touch you and how did it feel and why did you let it begin? what did he whisper and when did you cry and where do you think it will end? How long did you do it and why did you stop? Did you get to try anything new? How good was he, honest, where did he go and who made the very first move?" which rounds up quite nicely with the spoken "You make the very first move" at the end of the Meat Loaf Version on "Welcome to the neighbourhood" |

The reason why I submitted these lyrics here is because I wanted to pose a question to the discusion: Is the line "we got everything we need - sugar and beef" a reference to John Steinbecks' "Grapes of wrath?". I always think of an episode from this book (it was in my english textbook at school, that's why it sticks) where the Joads have worked at a peach farm and Ma-Joad goes shopping in the evening and she spends all the earnings from the day to buy coffee, sugar and beef (sugar because Tom likes his coffee with sugar). Now I am wondering whether I am the only one who makes this connection (it would fit wunderful, though) or whether this is clear to everyone? |
