| The Avett Brothers – The Perfect Space Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Essentially, this song is about growing up, maturing, changing, wanting to age gracefully (don't we all want that?), sacrificing, and wanting everybody around you to accept it all instead of judging who you are on the pretenses of who you were when you were younger. Especially powerful considering what's happening in the Avett Bros' lives right now. | |
| The Avett Brothers – A Lover Like You Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Very reminiscent of a Beach Boys song musically, while the lyrics sort of remind me of the innocence and optimism of an early Beatles tune. An honest and joyful confession of faithfulness (even though this is not an easy thing to do when you are young.) | |

| Though, to be fair, DMV kinda did miss the point of the song... XD | |
| The Avett Brothers – The Ballad of Love and Hate Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| rloyd: There's no right or wrong answer here. There are many very valid interpretations of this song. There is also the possibility that this song is about the fighting and interactions between love and hate within Seth (Love takes a taxi, a young man drives...) The song could also be about a relationship between two people, with these people also representing the ideals they embody within that relationship (love and hate.) In this way, in one layer, the story stands for one partner being reckless, cruel and inconsiderate, eventually being forgiven by his patient and kind lover; in the other layer, this relationship is a metaphor for all the deeper concepts everybody else here is talking about. | |

"When nothing is owed, deserved or respected And your life doesn't change by the man that's elected If you're loved by someone you're never rejected Decide what to be and go be it." That line rings so true. |

"A need for something, now let me break it down again A need for something but not more medicine" A very poignant statement to make in today's society. |

| The Avett Brothers – And It Spread Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"And it spread into my soul" should be "And it spread into my songs" So beautiful and meaningful... Especially that last verse. "Then you came back from space With a brand new laugh and a different face You took my hand and held it up And shot my arm full of love." |

| The Beatles – Fixing a Hole Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Okay... The Beatles were often quite high throughout their careers. Thanks to good old Bob Dylan (who turned them onto pot) and several people thereafter. In fact, aside from a trip to a secluded area where they went to study meditation with the Maharishi, and certain very quick interludes, John Lennon was basically stoned constantly from the moment he discovered LSD into his later married life. Does this mean that the songs are ABOUT Drugs? No. But, one can assume that many were written while on them (or, in the case of John, MOST of them.) In the case of the Beatles, this is simply a creativity boost. Could Paul have been stoned while writing this song? Maybe. But, why should that take away from the meaning. I think that this song was inspired by Paul fixing a hole in the roof, but the meaning he found in this was much deeper. It's called a METAPHOR. |
