Death Cab for Cutie – St. Peter's Cathedral Lyrics 14 years ago
One thing I've been thinking about ever since I first heard this song is an entry from Roger Ebert's blog about religion and death. He and several people in the comments section wrote about NDE (the Near Death Experience) and their similarities when it comes to the specifics of each individual's religious beliefs. They wrote that when the body begins to shut down, hallucinogenic chemicals are released. These chemicals can cause such euphoric events such as the ones described in NDEs. That's what I think about every time Ben sings the line:

"It's either quite a master plan
Or just chemicals that help us understand"

Regardless of what you believe, this is a very beautiful, euphoric song. Favorite from the album.

^ That right there is the problem I have with a situation like this. Even if he didn't, the man IS capable of the act. You know why? Everyone is capable of cheating. No one is exempt. It's easy to stand outside and throw rocks at glass houses, but to make comments like this one from earlier bothers me:

"I can't believe it."

Yes you can. It's one thing to state an opinion and say you DON'T believe it, but to say you CAN'T? I'm not trying to sound like some cynical adult, but there are far too many young people who put strenuous amounts of faith in rock stars/celebrities. Yes, the guy is a christian and believes in God. Yes, he is a good person I'm sure. I've seen him at concerts and I've read interviews. He seems like a genuinely sweet person, which even his ex-fiance Shannon still states amidst everything that has come to pass. None of that, however, has anything to do with the ability for a very nice person to cheat. Mistakes happen. People mess up. Yes, even Matt Thiessen, the man you swear cares too much and OMG could never do that, is capable of messing up very badly. He's a human being just like you or me. Rock stars are not exempt and them having any sort of religion does not make an ounce of difference either. You can care very much and still make the biggest mistake you never thought you'd make. I know from personal experience. Again, I'm not saying you have to agree with me as this is my opinion, but I still think people should seriously consider the facts rather than blindly refusing to believe anything negative about your favorite singer. You should never base assumptions off of the ideology that you "can't" believe things, I will still listen to Relient K's music as I enjoy it quite a bit and I like Matt's writing. That doesn't mean I must refuse to believe Matt is capable of making a very human mistake. You love people where they're at and hope and pray that they can make it through whatever hardships they're experiencing. You love on them by being there for them. I'm just saying you don't have to put on a blindfold and pretend like one person is better than another. If you said "I can't believe Matt would do that, he cares too much," but then your brother or sister committed the very act being argued here, would you believe Matt is a better person than your brother or sister? No, because all of those people are humans and are, therefore, not immune to screwing up.

Oh, and posting a comment on a message board from some random stalker/fan/apparent "friend" does not constitute a "correction." That's just what SwimAndy is referring to when it comes to the whole "two sides to every story" logic.

I really don't buy that. At all. I've heard that from the fans over and over again. You know what? She caught him. More than once. It wasn't a one time thing and I seriously doubt she would throw away a long lasting relationship and engagement over a simple misunderstanding like that. If she wasn't the one for Matt and that was the central issue, I really doubt she'd get on the air and discuss, with other women going through similar situations, the fact that he cheated more than once. I may never know the full truth and most likely neither will any of you, but I'm allowed to have my doubts nonetheless. The guy's not perfect and he is capable of screwing up.

RelientKistherad, I doubt what happened between Matt and Shannon hand anything to do with God telling Matt that he didn't want Matt to marry her. Matt cheated on her, plain and simple.

SwimAndy013, I'm guessing the thing "he messed up somehow" was him cheating on his fiance. It did indeed happen and you can read about it here:

Cartel – I Will follow Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is already on here as "I Will Hide Myself Away/I Will Follow." Radioheadish is NOT the title of ANY Cartel song. The only reason you would have a Cartel song titled Radioheadish is because you probably downloaded it off the internet for free. Back before the self titled dropped, the album leaked and the person who leaked it titled this track "Radioheadish" because he/she apparently thought this song sounded like Radiohead. So, without realizing that the track is actually the second part of "I Will Hide Myself Away" (because the album version features these tracks back to back as one track Ala the latest Coldplay album), the leaker posted the album up with the tracks split in two and mis-titled. This has since been followed by people coming to websites such as this one and posting up the song, thinking others had forgotten to post it up already. Nay. You have simply given yourself away and proven that indeed, you have successfully and illegally downloaded the album for free. Well done.

I'm not sure about the line with the question mark next to it but the rest I'm pretty sure of.

That being said...if this song is about what I think it's about then something tells me fans will have a lot to say about this one. Seems to be a pretty blatant jab at the reaction to I'm Only A Man.

Taken from: http://buzzworthy.mtv.com/2007/11/15/exclusive-tom-delonge-talks-about-blink-182-and-being-spun-out-while-building-an-empire/

This is Tom's explanation of the song directly from his mouth:

"BW: What’s your favorite song off your new album, I-Empire?

TD: I really like “Lifeline” a lot. It was the first song I sang after I was sober.

BW: That was really the first time you sang sober?

TD: Yeah, in four or five years or something. That’s what’s cool about it. The song is about God finding you. Growing up, I came from a religious background, and there’s an old psalm about footprints in the sand. So it’s about God walking next to you and saying I’ll take you for a ride; here’s a lifeline. It’s pretty rad."

Kind of nice...except the footprints thing is not a psalm at all....it's just a story some unknown author wrote that's now found printed on bookmarks across the globe. I like the song though.

Emery – The Party Song Lyrics 18 years ago
I work at a store where we have the demo CD for the retailer to keep in case customers wants to listen to the album since we don't have one of the scanning machines. So that's how I've seen the artowrk and booklet before the release, that's all.

submissions
Emery – The Party Song Lyrics 18 years ago
I'd also like to mention that this seems to be one of those cases where the CD booklet with the lyrics says one thing, while the band sings something else entirely. Such is the case with the line I quoted above that says "you'd be the same if you were me," which is what the CD booklet says but in the song he definitely sings, "you'd be the same if you could see." Just thought I'd point that out.

Emery – Rock-N-Rule Lyrics 18 years ago
Correct lyrics:

This is a waking up.
This is your final call and I would never
want to see you get torn apart.
I can't believe it.
I can't believe you're a part of this world.
You were a sick, sad man from the start.

Now you're not even worth my time.

I can't be stopped, I'll just keep going all the way.
You will try, but you will fail,
just say it's over and done with.

I drove around Chicago, headed to Champaign.
I passed right through the country where the
corn is as high as any God has ever made.
I saw a man beside the road he said,
"Excuse me sir, I think I've lost my way."
And I told him as I pulled back on the road
and headed south, "I've got no time to waste."
I said, "I guess you don't have faith."
(Does it matter anyway?)

It's the way you wanted. Everything in its place.

I guess you don't have faith.

This is a waking up.
This is your final call.
So don't you expect me to be there when you fall.

submissions
Emery – The Party Song Lyrics 18 years ago
It's "What a waste," not "of the waste." Also, it's "I know you like THE party," not "a party," and the line "You'd be the same if you could see" is actually "you'd be the same if you were me."

I got this from the actual emery album packaging so I know those are the correct lyrics.

Correct lyrics:

You want to siwm in the river
I want to dance in the summer
You've always been the believer,
I'm always left to wonder.
The water's rushing so fast,
I think it will take us under

Oh, what thought did you recall,
that would make you say my name?
The water's too seep, our friends say, "Don't Go."
But my mouth betrays me and says, "Hold on!"

And now I know, this is the pain of believing.
The danger is real and there is no easy way out.
How did I get here?
You trust too much in my bravery.
It's my safety you are taking.

We are going to drown in the river.
I cannot swim any farther.
My blood is pumping so fast to my heart and limbs
underwater.

But I reach and find your hands in mine.
And I say, "You will be saved!"
I pull and I pull and I pull.
But your foot is anchored deep.
Your face tells me you won't be freed.

I decided long ago never let your loved ones know
who you really are.
People want the truth but never want the scars.
And now I'm here with my best friend dying.
And I'm the one that's still lying.
And you say it's going to be okay.
Over and over again.

River, wash me clean.

Number One Gun – On & On Lyrics 18 years ago
I know this was looooooong ago, but no Number One Gun is not broken up. The band disbanded for a while and everyone thought that was it. Jeff (the singer) started a new band by himself called "The North Pole Project" with tooth and Nail. After hearing some of the songs, the label told Jeff that since the music sounded similar to Number One Gun, maybe he should just keep the name and release his new album with the title "The North Pole Project" rather than changing the band name to it. So the new album "The North Pole Project" by Number One Gun should be releasing this fall.

For anyone who doesn't know, this song is a "zero" track on Singularity. Mae – Where The Falls Begin Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is about Narnia...as in The Chronicles of Narnia. On the Everglow special edition DVD, the band themselves state that the song was originally written for the film "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe," but was rejected (same thing with Relient K's "In Like a Lion (Always Winter)" song). The band then put this song on the special edition CD of The Everglow.

So yeah, it's about Narnia.
