Gavin Rossdale did this on WAAF when he was there on August 29, 2005 with Institute. It's a Bush song that he did acoustically. It's available at http://eod.liquidviewer.com/WAAF-OD/TheInstitute-LittleThings.asf -- I posted this when I found it, figuring somebody may be looking for it under Institute. |

aunt fe fe, are you that illiterate that you can't read the posts above? It has nothing to do with a freaking parrot, and everything to do with a girl being raped.
As for lyric discrepencies, Cobain sings it differently each time (that I've heard it). In the box set, you have the first version (Track 14 on the first CD) which is very different from the demo (Track 23 on first CD). Then, the one on Nevermind even has different lyrics, and then the Unplugged, he changes "cut yourself" to "hurt yourself' and "please myself" to "help myself."
Whether or not the story is true or not, it is definately about rape. |

i love the line "there's a house built out in space" in this song...i think it means there's heaven out there, like trying to comfort the girl......i love this song, and raine has a way w/ words... |

i don't understand the whole claiming of underground music as sacred...i mean i can't say i'm the biggest olp fan, cause i'm not. i saw the clumsy cd in my collection a little while ago, and i thought, what the hell, why not give it another listen...blew me away...and if olp can make money making great music, then so be it. don't be mad at them if their music becomes popular...not all mainstream is bad music...fuck anyone who starts disliking a band because people finally find out how good they are...fucking underground whiners... |

i read a quote from raine that it was about this time his best friend was in the shower, and raine snuck in w/ a baretta pistol, but he had taken the clip out, and when his friend stepped out of the shower, he yelled "BANG!" and it dropped his friend to the floor...then raine held the gun to his friend's head, and his friend yelled "don't you know a baretta has 13 bullets and one in the chamber?!", it never said if he pulled the trigger or not...the story just ended there... |

i think this is everything aaron was feeling on the stage in biloxi...cause he made it up on the spot there, all he knew was the chorus, so i've heard...anywho, although fred durst is incredibly commercial, i wouldn't have heard staind if it wasn't for him. and, staind was playing lighter songs like outside or it's been awhile (may i suggest excess baggage, which was originally intended for "tormented"?). they may not be heavy, but they still pack a lot of meaning... |

i'm gonna go w/ bulkyone here...i think this is about aaron being absolutely addicted to this girl, but he did some to fuck it all up ("the consequences that i render"), and all he wants is just her back. although this song was way too over-commercialized (fuck mtv), staind can still put together amazing songs...i encourage all of yall who think that "break the cycle" is their only cd to check out "dysfunction" and "tormented"... |

this is one of my favorite staind songs, and sol8nc8, you're right, dysfunction and tormented are so much better, but anyway...
i think this song was about aaron being abused, it seems like verbally, but it could be physically, i never thought about it as a connection to a girl. i always thought he was wanted revenge on the bastard that put him into this place in his head. i could support it w/ "i'm water while you drown..." etc, etc. i think what he wants to "just go" is the memories of the abuse...i could be wrong though... |

| Our Lady Peace – Automatic Flowers Lyrics

i read a quote from raine on this that said that it's about a woman that lives alone in an apartment and all she has left is this pop-up book. the entire history of "sara" isn't given, only hinted at by the line "crying, crying, she couldn't afford the view". dilifer's right on the automatic flowers, it isn't a play on words, it's a description of the pop-up book's contents, and this pop-up book is the only thing that she has that's close to her, and it won't do to be happy, thus, "these automatic flowers won't do"... |
