I love the amazingly epic guitar part that starts right before 4:00. Ocean Machine is such a masterpiece. |

Marijuana.
The part in the parentheses and the last half of the song. "And you, make all my words go away, and you take all my time. But you, make all the hurt go away, and all I can say is it's day after day all I know." The symptoms of using marijuana daily imo. |

Definitely about departure of some kind, maybe even death. He's telling someone that he will be leaving in the night, and only weak people will be crying about his leaving. |

About being away from your lover or other people and things you care about. This song took the longest out of any Devy song for me to get into, but now I love it like any of his other songs. |

| Devin Townsend – The Greys Lyrics

I think "The Greys" is supposed to represent how Ziltoid feels after he realizes he's a puppet. In Color Your World, he feels high and mighty being omniscient, but not so much in this song.
"The greys flood our memories" is speaking about dwelling in the past I believe. |

A very uplifting song, compared to the past two (Nobody's Here and Tiny Tears). Near the end of the song there are some backwards lyrics that say something along the lines of "Well, ladies and gentlemen, you've reached the end of another album..." |

Devin sometimes writes lyrics down but never puts them in the song (Mountain for example). I think they are lyrics he wanted to put in the song but didn't fit maybe. |

This song is absolutely amazing. It has a very slow build-up into an astonishing eargasm. If you have the patience, this is Devin's most rewarding song. Can't even begin to interpret the meaning, though. |

| Devin Townsend – Tiny Tears Lyrics

I used to skip over this song all the time while listening to Terria. However, that is very much so no longer the case. This is my second favorite Townsend song, right behind Funeral.
I believe "Tiny Tears" has multiple meanings here. In the song, he says "Where all your hopes and all your cares, they all get out through tiny tears," being tears like a physical injury or opening, not crying. However, this song has a pretty "sad" sound to it, so crying may also be related..
I'm not sure what he's trying to say he's a million miles away from. Maybe he was away from Tracy or someone else important while making Terria. Whoever it is, Devin apparently made that person cry and is very sad about it.
Devin sees and thinks he "needs" someone (or something) in the chanting section of the song (Which is beautiful. The main reason I love this song). However, he resists (or simply cannot succumb to) the temptation to get that someone or something. It sounds like an addiction breaking when he says that he's learned his lesson.
To end the song on a lighter note, Devin states that he's bored now. Maybe life was more exciting wanting/needing/having that thing, and is now boring without that thing. |

"Roll this up, it's deadly" is definitely referring to marijuana here, I believe. Dev was an avid user of it, though I don't remember if he was still doing it while making this album.
"Why can't I remember" may also be a symptom of marijuana usage. It causes memory loss.
I myself have never done marijuana, so I don't know if it makes you "feel like there's nobody here"..but I believe there is much more depth to this song than simply marijuana. Maybe not though, Devin's songs can sometimes be over-interpreted.
I also have no idea what the last part of the song is supposed to mean. |

This is one of the better songs to play for a first time listener to Devin's music. It is very catchy, and portrays many of his attitudes in music very well. Unfortunately, I have no idea about the meaning. Maybe the message is, "There is no message"? |

| Devin Townsend – Mountain Lyrics

This song relates to Devin's used-to-be dog Happy. While Devin was working on Terria (or slightly before), Happy died. "That bump in your armpit is Cancer/That bump was turbulence" describes how Devin underwent some "turbulence" due to the death of Happy. Devin next states that the world is still spinning despite the death of his furry friend, and that "There is no reason for nostalgia, There is no reason for memory." After all, semi-relating to his song 3 AM, you cannot change the past and dwelling in it can be dangerous.
You can also see the hours Devin used up taking care of the dog, "So far, i've logged so many hours with medications and the dog."
Later in the song, after the awesome chanting section in the middle, you can hear Happy playing with Devin and Tracy. Also, in Dev's second "death metal growl," Happy is howling. Very touching song.
"It's just another mountain" explains how the death of his dog is just another bump in the road, another problem to get over. However, he will get over it, like any other problem. |

| Devin Townsend – Babysong Lyrics

Devin has stated that this song has the most meaning to him out of all of the songs off of Synchestra. Possessions from Strapping's Alien is the thought of having kids from the point of view of a 16 year old, and this song is the thought of having kids from the point of view of a 32 year old. In Possessions, babies seem to be nothing more than a burden, but in this song, babies seem to be very, very good.
Of course, Devin's songs can have multiple interpretations. I personally think that Aniland's thoughts also fit pretty well. |

He apparently had trouble moving on from problems in the past. However, this time he isn't looking back, even though all that he knows is gone. It's time to be moving on. After all, you can't change the past, and dwelling in it can be dangerous. |

This is my favorite Devin Townsend song. Not only that, but my favorite song by anyone, ever. It evokes feelings that are hard to describe.
As for the meaning. A little hard to decipher, but I believe it is about a loss of individuality, but not neccessarily by Devin. I think Devin is reffering to his old self as "Jesus." (For most of the song, in the chorus he sings "the funeral in the rain." However, near the end, he says "my funeral in the rain"). Devin "watched him go," seeing his old self leave.
"Jesus was a poor boy," meaning before the person lost his/her individuality, he/she was poor, but not neccessarily financially.
My favorite minute of music ever starts at about 4:20 in the song (haha, pot). I'm not sure about "The day's gone and the year's gone," but "Tell me why he went.." seems to be the person not understanding why he lost his former self. It is an element to the mystery.
This song seems pretty hard to decipher to me, but I think that it is a tribute to a person's former self, the life and "funeral" (death) of it. Or, I could just fuck off. |

I agree with the above poster's explanation. Accelerated Evolution is a theme album about relationships, so the explanation fits pretty well.
Catchy song. One of the more accessible off of the album, but the entire album is more accessible than most of his work, IMO. |

The line "It's 2:45 am and I'm freaking out" reminds me of some lyrics from Devin's song War off of his album Infinity. "In the morning bout 3 or so, can't stop thinking bout the universe." Maybe they're connected, maybe not, just something I noticed. |

Devin is bipolar, and was off of his medication while making Alien. I think this song sounds like a mood shift from the rest of the album (this song is soothing, while the rest of the album is incredibly pissed off). |
