I wonder if she wrote this song for Ryan Reynolds after their breakup in 2007. Beautiful song about a former love and how she still misses their time together. And "carrying a torch" means pining for/admiring someone from far away. |

I heard John first wrote it for Timothy Leary, then he re-wrote it for the Beatles. And apparently every verse is for one Beatles (my guess, 1 - George, 2 - Paul, 3 - John, 4 - Ringo) |

Everytime I listen to this song, I think John wrote it about a guy (...Paul, hehe).
"That you would love me more than her."
Grammatically speaking, it should be "she" at the end. Right now, it means: You would love me more than (you love) her. This implies it's a guy he's singing to who has a girlfriend/wife.
But of course we all know John likes to play with language. And her sounds better than she. |
