i don't know if i'm 100% right, but i kind of took the "bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing" line pretty literally. here's my interpretation... i think she wants to leave because she's afraid of being hurt, i think, but she also wants to stay, whether because they've been together for so long or she doesn't want to hurt him... something is holding her back and he's trying to keep her there and using the fact that she's torn as an excuse, but at the same time, he's kind of like "how long until you make up your mind and leave?" in the chorus, he's talking about how the consequence of falling in love/giving your heart is starting to overshadow real passion and he's saying "well, if you're going to leave, just show me some kind of emotion and just hit me" if you're taking it literally. obviously, it could also be "don't leave before you give me a shot." but that's just my two cents! |
