it sounds as if this song is about a person who just kicked some sort of addiction. he used drugs, or something like it, to escape from the fact that he wished he was dead. This person experienced a lot of pain, which drove him towards drugs. The love that he needs is to replace the comfort that drugs gave him, so that he won't fall back towards that habit.

I think this song is about someone who has gotten his/her heart broken. All they need to feel better is love, but love is the one thing they will no longer "break" for.
