Steven Wilson – The Raven That Refused To Sing Lyrics 13 years ago
This song makes me tear up. Easily one of Steven's best songs ever.

I'm pretty sure he alternates between:

Sing to me Raven, I miss her so much
Sing to me Lily, I miss you so much.

Storm Corrosion – Storm Corrosion Lyrics 13 years ago
The dark part, while maybe not particularly appealing to us, at least initially, provides a very interesting musical contrast to the rest of the song, though. It follows the group's idea of mixing the beautiful with the twisted, and "Part One" and "Part Three" of this song have their emotional impact intensified by surrounding this dark stretch.

As for the vocal part following it, I absolutely love it. I think the melody and effects are very cool sounding - a little bit psychedelic and slippery.

One of the interpretations I've considered is that this song is about reflection and current situation.

The first verse deals with the subject looking back sentimentally into childhood. S/he remembers the simplicity of youth, the ignorant bliss.

The second verse is about growing older. The person doesn't feel things like s/he used to. The part about "a bottle not for sharing poison with the fairies" could essentially be about drowning pain with alcohol (poison being a metaphor for alcohol).

Who knows! Just one way to look at it.

As already said, this song is just incredibly emotional and amazing. It is so melancholy and encompasses so many feelings. I think everyone can relate to it in their own way. To me, it's a bit like finally finding belonging, a home, after wanting it for so long. Finally finding peace, rest, love? The character wants to belong to someone, and that's how I relate to it. I also believe that to a certain extent there are possible undertones of death to this song.

Porcupine Tree – Start of Something Beautiful Lyrics 16 years ago
Not sure why there are so few comments on this incredible song.

The way I interpret it as sort of a breakup song. This is an interesting song because it really can be taken a lot of different ways, although that can be said for most PT songs.

To me the verses are explaining how he can't get this girl out of his head. He loves her, he wants to be with her for the rest of his life. But he also points out that it seems like a one-sided relationship. It seems like she doesn't love him back, but acts the part anyway.

The chorus is just filled with anger and emotion. The narrator is expressing how he is outrageously upset that she doesn't seem to give a damn about him or the "relationship."

I think the verse about "Mother lost her looks for you..." is expressing how the girl was never really wanted by her family and that negatively impacted her for further relationships. Because she had a terrible relationship with her family, she refuses to let herself open up to anyone else and actually love anyone else. The male narrator of this song wants a deep relationship with her, but she's only there for her own benefit and doesn't return the love.

Sentimental is the view of the kid saying he never wants to grow old, he never wants responsibility, he never wants to exist in the adult world

Normal is almost the exact opposite viewpoint of that, where the kid wishes he was grown up and could look back on life, be sentimental.

This song is quite beautiful. I think the singer is wanting someone to continue to love him, even after their relationship has faltered.

Amazingly heartjerking song. From what I gather it's just about a guy who loves some one who doesn't truly love him back, and is just in a relationship with him to take advantage of him.

Marilyn Manson – Mechanical Animals Lyrics 18 years ago
We were neurophobic and perfect
the day we lost our souls.
Maybe we weren't so human, but
If we cry, we will rust.

--Pretty much means that "we" gave away our individuality in order to become accepted by society, thus becoming "mechanical"- not operating by our own intentions but by society's. The crying part refers to if we try to be ourselves we will no longer be accepted.

And I was a hand grenade that
never stopped exploding.
You were automatic
and as hollow as the "o" in God.

--Manson stating that he's not going to be himself, even if his ideas shock and scare people. I think that the "you" is still referring to society and the people criticizing him, explaining again that they're just mechanical.

I am never gonna be the one for you.
I am never gonna save the world from you.

--Manson being ignored by people, thus him not going to be able to save them since they won't accept him and listen to him??

They'll never be good to you
or bad to you.
They'll never be anything,
anything at all.

--If you become mechanical, you will become accepted, but you won't be anything. You won't be recognized by society as an individual, and you'll never be anything of significance.

You were my mechanical bride,
phenobarbidoll.
A mannequeen of depression with
the face of a dead star.

--Not too sure here. If we look at it on the surface (which usually isn't what Manson is about) it could be him loving one of the "mechanical" people.

And I was a hand grenade that
never stopped exploding.
You were automatic
and as hollow as the "o" in God.

--Already explained.

I am never gonna be the one for you.
I am never gonna save the world from you.

They'll never be good to you
or bad to you.
They'll never be anything,
anything at all.
They'll never be good to you
or bad to you.
They'll never be anything,
anything at all.

I am never gonna be the one for you.
I am never gonna save the world from you.

This isn't me, I'm not mechanical.
I'm just a boy playing the suicide king.

--If the theories about the kid committing suicide are true, it fits this line pretty well.

Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

...Playing the suicide king.

(I'm just a boy...)
...Playing the suicide king.

Marilyn Manson – Great Big White World Lyrics 18 years ago
One of the meanings of the song (note one) is how our world is losing its individuality. People are slowly becoming copies of imitations, talking and dressing like whatever the flavor of the week is. They're not being themeselves, they're being fake, taking the color (individuality) out of the world.
