I completely agree with onetime11, I have never come across a more gifted lyricist. Heaps of artists out write the most stupid lyrics (like said above) or they dont even write their own lyrics! Whats the point to that - its like their singing about someone elses experiences/thoughts/dreams. How is a song supposed to be powerful, if the person singing it cant even relate to what theyre singing??
Josh pyke on the other hand is a genius. "But time is like the ocean, you can only hold a little in your hands" -- how many ppl can write lyrics like that? I dont think he gets enough credit for his gift.

I think this song a guy who is fighting in the war or some sort of high risk occupation, where he has to go away and fight under dangerous circumstances. Every time he finds his way back to his loved one - her light guides him back every time. I think the candle in the window is a metaphor, for her internal strength and goodness, which keeps him alive and coming back to her. He knows realistically there's a chance that he might be killed, but he's also telling her that even if this does happen, he knows that she'll still have the same strength and he'll still always be there for her, watching over her.

yea when i heard the new album this was the one that i instantly liked. i really like the guitar bit he does at the end of each verse.
i also think this song is about a person who really empowers you to be more than you thought you could be.
i like the line: "all of those black holes.. so full up to the brim of nothing. and you know, sometimes so am i" -- everyone feels like theyre full of nothing sometimes, so when you find a person who makes you feel like you can tackle anything, then you really shouldnt keep them in a box |

god josh pyke is just amazing- lyrical genius! and this song is so incredibly beautiful, such a beautiful tune, it never gets boring.
its so sad at the same time tho: he longs so much to be with this girl, but shes got someone else on her mind. and the only thing he can do to make her think of him is write this song.. aww i know that feeling, longing something you cant have.. and also that "quickening" feeling he talk about. possibly my favourite of josh's songs...... |

thisis one of my all-time favourite songs! personally i think the whole jesus link is a bit strenuous and its simply about exactly what the lyrics say. the guy inevitably has to leave his girl the next day, so they are cherishing their last night together: 'save tonight and fight the break of dawn'. such a beautiful sweet song, and hell yeh def a turn-on! but still sad at the same time.. terrific song no doubt about it |

this is such a powerful song. and yeh it is about drugs and the whole party lifestyle. the person in the song thought he would find happiness through constant "fun" but now its screwed up his life. hes miserable at the cost of his "fun"- the song constantly questions and suggests that this trade-off isnt worth it: "are you still having fun?" extremely good song! LOVE IT |

wow, what a great song! so much emotion... pretty much its billy that makes the song though. the anger in his voice as he sings it is just mind-blowing. if anyone else sung it, it wouldn't be half as good. however, theres no arguing that the lyrics are pure genius! first of all, smashing pumpkins are an amazing band- definitely on my list of all-time favourites. and this is, i think, my favourite of their songs- mainly for the raw emotion evident in the lyrics and billys singing. billy corgan is a genius. i can really see how this song is about a traumatic childhood. its so sad to think that in order to write such an incredibly beautiful song, billy had to experience such anguish... |

i see the point that i think swnkclps is trying to make, and i agree, its the circle of life for organisms to eat other organisms. but thats not what this song is about- its the countless animals which are held captive in appalling conditions before being slaughtered. the verses clearly reflect this: 'dont you think about the pain they face just to end up on a plate...' i particularly like the line: 'If you didn't have a voice would that mean that you were worth much less than me?'- he's saying that just because the animals cant speak up and defend themselves doesnt mean that they dont have rights and deserve respect. tho im not as sure about the chorus... ill have to think harder about that one. i love the fact that darren is writing about important issues in our society- injustices that most ppl wouldnt even think twice about! its nice to know that someone cares. |

this song is... i cant think of a strong enough word to describe it!! it carries such a powerful message about the devastation of war. in my opinion, war should only ever be used as a last resort, but it never is... my favourite bit is where they describe frank and the anzac legend. it makes me so emotional- i have so much empathy for the boys and men who were conscripted against their will! its just not fair! there's nothing right about war, and yet its still going on today... this song is a BRILLIANT cover of a BRILLIANT original song! to redgums credit, the lyrics are so straightforward and sincere, yet soo powerful!!!! as long as war is still a prominent issue, this song will never grow old! |

this is an AWESOME song!! its about the tampa incident, which i dunno about the other 23% of australia, but shocked me! how can ppl have such racist mentalities? so to me its both reassuring and admirable that the herd are standing up to the 77% of aust who dont seem to give a shit about the less fortunate. i love how the song begins with the commentary, and it has really clever lyrics too! such as: 'Captain Cook was the very first queue jumper

i LOVE this song! it didnt immediately stand out to me like other songs on the album, but now the more i listen to it, the more i love it. i really like how the verses are sung with another voice in the background of brandons voice- it makes it interesting and unique. i love the line: "my heart it dont beat the way it used to..." the songs about falling out of love, where 'for reasons unknown' he just seems to drift away from the intimacy he used to share with this person.
the killers are awesome!!! they've got such a unique sound- i love that!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

this is one of my favourite kisschasy songs!!! y hasn't more people commented on this FANTASTIC piece of music??? anyways, it sounds like this song is about a girl, or person, who he's completely devoted to and has been waiting a long time for. obviously time is going very slowly as shown by "the little hand...is moving forwards and then backwards." except, unlike musicmad, i dont think that his resolution is that this someone is forever from his reach, but instead that hes not going to give in and will do whatever it takes to get to them again. his devotion to this person is evident within the chorus- he's willing to wait thousands of years for them. so i dont think that hes resolved to let go of this person, but i also dont think that that's the whole story... |

this song is definitely about mental illness. it says: 'the chemical change in me...'- a simple chemical imbalance in the body can result in mental illness. and the lyrics describe voices and cutting skin, all symptons. the chorus describes him as scrubbing his skin to cleanse himself but whatever it is he's trying to get rid of is 'stuck'. it's like he knows there's something wrong but he doesnt know how to fix it. or else he's scared to admit he has a problem and hence, wont seek help. this is sad since many illnesses are easily treatable. the lines: 'and i have done worse things before, so shut me up' gives me the feeling that he thinks he can handle his problem. either that or hes refusing to face up to the magnitude of the situation, but im not sure... neverthemore, this is a great song!! its good to know someone is realising and educating our society on mental illness- not nearly enough is known about the issue! |

i read the lyrics of this song before i heard the actual thing, and i couldn't understand how so many ppl could like the song with such twisted morbid lyrics. but after hearing it, i think its the lyrics that make it such a powerful song. i couldn't imagine loving anyone that much that i would want to climb in the casket with them. and although im not sure whether darren meant that to be taken literally, all the same it makes me shiver when i hear the line: they'll find us in eachothers arms. this is such a beautiful beautiful song... is it just me or is darren an awesome songwriter? unlike alot of other kisschasy songs, what this song is actually referring to isnt really clear. but anyways... i get the feeling that this song is darren's experiences existing within a famous band. the chorus (i feel so safe hiding my face like ugly birds in a beautiful cage) could therefore be referring to how while darren is now in this amazing worshipped band and is being nationally recognized, he is still the same average guy he was before he rose to fame. people are now idolizing him as this amazing super-human. and while i do think that darren is absolutely FANTASTIC, in reality hes just like everyone else. the line in the chorus: and i will stay the same, may be darren saying that although ppl have built up this terrific image of him, he's not going to try to be anything he's not and is going to stay true to himself. the verses are a little trickier... the first verse coud be darren highlighting the fact that he's only human and has weaknesses just like everyone else. possibly the second verse is darren revealing his true self... but i dunno. hope this helps! REALLY great song!!! |
