I read in an interview that a couple songs from White Blood Cells were songs that Jack had written awhile ago and the two had never recorded. Dead Leaves is supposed to be one of those songs, so it could actually be about Meg. It was a contender for their first album I believe but was never put on it |

i wonder who the little girl is at the beginning asking "daddy, can you tell me the story about the chicken?"
i was thinking maybe jack white's daughter, but she's only two or three and i think the voice sounds older than that.
also, Kitty333, i dont think the "hahaha, JACK" voice is his wife, because Karen Elson is British and that voice didnt sound British to me... |

i agree with The_Drizzle on the meaning.
THe_Atomic_Punk, i heard some other chords playing too... i thought they were some of the chords to Ohio by Neil Young, but i might be wrong, that's just what i heard |

this is kind of a stretch, but wasn't the recording of de stijl around the time meg and jack were getting divorced? maybe jack put it in there to just say to himself and maybe anyone who figured it out that he still loves meg, even though they're kind of "dead" to each other, because their divorced? a big stretch, i know |

I love this song. It look awhile to get into it, but now it's one of my favorite songs on the album.
To me, this is about endings- "I'm begging for ignition to start it all again" and how they can rip you apart. Burn you up. |
