I think it's like this: Someone breaks up with someone else (great, vague language, let's call them a girl and a boy for ease) and their explanation is "you never tell me how you feel" etc. (speak, your mind you're always telling me I need to open mine) and the guy is just trying to explain that they really do want to stay together, and he's telling the girl "If you're listening this is how much it hurts" like he doesn't know if she even cares anymore. |

NO COMMENTS? Blasphemy I tell you. The conviction and emotion in his voice (at least in my recording) is simply heart-wrenching. But I suppose the meaning of the song is pretty concrete. |

This intro completely sums up everything my parents told me. "Just have a backup so you can go someplace reputable if it doesn't work out the way that you planned and we don't have to say we have a screw up child." I actually remember smiling to myself when I first heard it because it so perfectly described my parents while I was in high school. |

My favorite lines: "Distance makes a copy of my face she will bend inside her dreams blood on all these clothes is from the telephonic surgeries Distance makes a man believe that loyalty is a thankless chore loyalty's the reason I leave semen on my hotel floor, yeah" It's definitely about long DISTANCE relationships and the difficulties with that, especially being a musician and having girls constantly throw themselves at you with a girlfriend back home. I love how John can put words in that would seem vulgar in general but in the song it just completely sums up the feeling. I love how he sings this with such conviction in his voice...I wish he'd play it more than once so the quality on my tape was a little better :P |
