| Bomb the Music Industry! – 25 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This may just be my favorite BTMI song. It may be a bit depressing, yet it makes me so damn happy. |
| Asher Roth – I Love College Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I thought this was satire at first... but I guess not. Not that I don't like partying, I just can't stand the kids who end up going to state schools just for the parties and don't plan on ever trying to do anything with their lives. I'm sorry, that's not something to be admired for. Grow up. |
| Tom Gabel – Amputations Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Pretty simple message - the idea that when a soldier goes off to war he comes home missing a part of himself. He does not get to experience life normally. I love the title of this song. It seems like the theme of the album is war. I would love to see Tom solo and live. |
| The Gaslight Anthem – Red at Night Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Amazing song. I would kill for them to record an acoustic album. | |
| The Dandy Warhols – Nietzsche Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I was listening to this song, uh, under the influence once and I started to think about what he's really saying. "I'd rather not have a god than a god who plays dead, meaning a god who ignores prayers and hopes." The concept of free will and the fact that god can't really intervene makes him powerless and pointless. That makes sense, right? Anyway this song is awesome of course =] |
| The Soviettes – Go Lambs Go! Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| the church forbids birth control. i'm sorry, people have sex, it's part of our anatomy and people like it. not every family can be like the fucking duggars. that's more disgusting. | |
| Leftover Crack – Atheist Anthem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
kro, the straightedge boys who huff gasoline are supposed to reference how hypocritical people can be, often religious people, who supposedly love their neighbors, but oppose gay marriage. I mean, not everyone who listens to Leftover Crack is supposed to take it literally. I certainly don't go out and kill cops in my spare time, and I'm confused about my own religious beliefs. But I love listening to them sometimes because of how outrageous and outspoken they are. Anyway, if everyone could just coexist wouldn't the world be so much happier? |
| Bright Eyes – Let's Not Shit Ourselves (To Love and to Be Loved) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I start to cry when he says "Well poison ink spews from a speechwriter's pen He knows he don't have to say it, so it don't bother him." Conor Oberst is a genius when it comes to capturing emotion in music. I can hardly think of anyone who does it better. |
| Billy Bragg and Wilco – California Stars Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Excellent. I love the dreamy, hazy feeling of this song. | |
| Tom Gabel – Cowards Sing at Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm so glad that the election is over and we can stop hearing about the long list of things that John McCain didn't have while he was in Vietnam, regardless of how many house he has now. I don't believe in exceptionalism either. |
| Bomb the Music Industry! – King of Minneapolis Pts. III & IV Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love how Jeff has this emotional connection with his van, like it's something for him to hold onto. He seems like he's been through a lot of pretty shitty stuff. When I begin to hate everyone around me I drive around and sing this song. |
| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Timorous Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This is such an interesting song. He talks about his best friend Johnny, who he barely remembers anymore. Though he cherishes the memories they had he doesn't seem to miss him at all. Yet he meets Timory at a show for five minutes and hasn't forgotten her. I think it's all about connection. There are certain people in your life that you will only have known for a short period of time, but are going to have a lifelong impact on you. It's about the special connection you make with another person for a split second that lets you know how beautiful things can be, yet he never got to experience it with Timory. My favorite line is "In the prettiest voice that I never heard" It's heartbreaking actually. |
| Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – Me and Mia Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I saw Ted Leo as an opening band a couple of days ago and I thought I'd look up some of their songs. I've been listening to this song for a couple of days and just now looked up the lyrics. I've struggled with eating problems and I just started crying when I read the lyrics. "Sick to death of my dependence, Fighting food to find trancendence" "More dead but more alive" It's exactly how it feels. I wonder what inspired them to write this song because it's very realistic. |
| The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Not If You Were the Last Dandy on Earth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It sounds so malicious. Is it bad that I like both Junkie and this one? |
| Bomb the Music Industry! – Syke! Life is AWESOME! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this is my favorite BTMI! song. It's so optimistic, I love the "and if I never" part. "And if you didn't fuck my ex-girlfriend, I would still owe you three thousand dollars" Greatest line =] |
| Kid Dynamite – Heart A Tact Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song. I agree, it's pretty much about telling everything that's pressuring you to fuck it. Take control of your life and be who you want to fucking be, regardless of outside forces. Come alive through yourself. |
| Against Me! – The Ocean Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just noticed the first and second verse both end in "of our children". "filled into a glass to meet the thirst of our children." "letting the cool ocean air heal the sunburned shoulders of our children." I think the ocean is a metaphor for heaven, or god. The children represent all the people god doesn't get to, the homeless, the abused, the lonely, the confused. In Walking is Still Honest he presents the same idea, that heaven is too elite. He's right, religion would make more sense if people weren't constantly excluded and made to feel like they don't belong. Why can't everyone be allowed to be happy? To reach salvation? I seriously love Against Me! and their idealism. It makes me so happy. |
| Big D and the Kids Table – My Girlfriend's On Drugs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"I'M A DAISY!" Love, love, love this song. |
| The Dandy Warhols – All The Money Or The Simple Life Honey Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love the line "And when they tell you they love you They love you like a one night stand" American Dream = being taken advantage of. Great band. Great song. |
| Leftover Crack – One Dead Cop Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think it is possible for anyone to hold the job of a police officer and not take advantage of it. It's human fucking nature. |
| Leftover Crack – Atheist Anthem Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Just for the record, I'm agnostic. "And all the boys in the sXe scene are in the basement huffing gasoline" That line is so clever. It's to priests and hypocritical religious people. Preaching "love thy neighbor" and then hating gay people is hypocritical, but there are so many people who believe that. "WE ARE ALONE" That line makes me think about if there really is no god, we really are alone. All by ourselves, free. |
| The Dandy Warhols – Not If You Were The Last Junkie On Earth Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I don't think it's anti-heroin, I think the message is "don't do heroin if you're only doing it to be chic" great song, the video is hilarious. |
| Beck – Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Artists leave their work open for interpretation. I think he meant for there to be confusion. "Sun-eyed" and "Cyanide" have two very different connotations. It's the same thing with the difference between the sound and the lyrics. And I think the video enforces all of that. |
| Descendents – Suburban Home Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love it, the song is (like everyone has said) about kids growing up in the suburbs and the lack of individuality that surfaces. And then it's just a vicious cycle. I hate how growing up in the suburbs almost makes you believe that most of the country is middle class white people like everyone around you. Obviously, that's not the case. |
| The Soviettes – Go Lambs Go! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Definately about pro-life. I love the line "How many kids would you adopt?" It brings up such a good point, if they outlawed abortion what would happen? Bigger orphanages? Great song. |
| The Suicide Machines – New Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The very first Tony Hawk game for Nintendo 64, this song was on it. It was my favorite song on the game when I was 9 years old. Later I got into ska and punk and heard this song... it was like a visitation from my childhood =] | |
| Against Me! – Up the Cuts Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like this song. But, It's definately not as good as the stuff on Reinventing Axl Rose. Unfortunately, I'm begining to doubt that AM! will ever make anything as good as that ever again. |
| Against Me! – Sink, Florida, Sink Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hahaha. "Ride on a cow" singing this song with everyone in the audience at an Against Me! show is absolutely amazing. It's not my favorite, but it has such a great vibe. |
| Against Me! – Reinventing Axl Rose Lyrics | 18 years ago |
If you have been to an Against Me! show, there is no denying that you understand the unity and absolute connection that you feel there. Something about this band just makes everyone in the room connected. I saw them last night and I was really dissapointed they didn't play this song, but when they played Sink, Florida Sink... it was so intense and .... how can you even explain it? Telephonne says it, you come home sweaty, bruised, and not being able to hear, but you are incredibly happy. Nothing but music can ever do that to me. |
| Against Me! – Thrash Unreal Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song makes me really sad. it scares me that I could turn into this. anyone could turn into this. drinking and doing drugs makes kids feel more mature a lot of times, but when you think about what your parents would think if they knew, what your parents dreams for you were when you were born, and how you've possibly just messed it all up, it makes me cry. |
| Giant Drag – Wicked Game Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I just looked this up because I heard it on the nip/tuck commercial. I like it. |
| Mustard Plug – Beer Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I love this song. I agree, it's about authority taking away everything they can from you. "They'll never take it away" I kind of thought refers to his freedom of thought, but I think it's ironic that the song is called "beer", as in that's what they're referring to. "Well they can own my body, but they'll never own my mind" That line sums it up. |
| Mustard Plug – Mr. Smiley Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| when I saw mustard plug they didn't have a plastic knife, they had a chainsaw =] | |
| Iggy Pop – Lust For Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song goes so perfectly with the movie trainspotting, about getting on and off heroin. I kind of thought the line "of course I've had it in my ear before" was talking about shooting heroin in his ear.... although that's really strange. Jet sucks. What poseurs. Every time I see the Carnival Cruise Line commercial I start laughing. They market a cruise towards families that can afford to go on a cruise... do any of them listen to iggy pop? haha. |
| Streetlight Manifesto – A Better Place, A Better Time Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't explain in words how beautiful this song is, but I can say that I want to cry everytime I hear it. Annie is tired of life, she's had so many failures and so little successes. I feel like that a lot. But the fact is Annie has someone who loves her dearly and cares about her, it just makes me cry that he'll do anything in his power to keep her from doing it, but he knows that she is the only one who can truly make the decision to continue living. great song =] |
| Operation Ivy – Vulnerability Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is by far my favorite Op Ivy song, and the best line in the song is "Sympathy is only friendship's whore, you know" and it's so true. everything IS dehumanized these days. |
| Operation Ivy – Knowledge Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I don't think anyone can truly say they like punk/ska if they aren't completely in love with this song. Operation Ivy is frankly one of THE BEST punk or ska bands in history. And no one can argue with that! | |
| The Aquabats – Pool Party Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is amazing. I made a CD for swim practice with this song on it. Everytime it comes on during practice it makes me feel so much better, and I feel like I'm at The Aquabats show I went to. During this song, they threw beach balls in the crowd. |
| Reel Big Fish – Don't Start a Band Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| reel big fish had a hard start, so I think that's what this song is about. It's funny, true, and a great ska/punk song. | |
| The Adolescents – Kids Of The Black Hole Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Yeah, mike was the original owner. I heard this song is about him and his roomates place. I think it's probably still around somewhere, but I'm not sure what town it was in. but this is a great song. after they say "our days of wreckless fun are through" it feels like you're going back in time, to the black hole. |
| Social Distortion – Prison Bound Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the version on live at the roxy is SO great. I love this song. It's so hard not to sing along to it. |
| Social Distortion – Angel's Wings Lyrics | 18 years ago |
mike ness is so amazing. and I have the live version, which I kind of like the lyrics of a little bit better. They're kind of incoherable at some parts, but I know the first verse is "Welfare mother, drink yourself to sleep While silently your children weep When you coming home dad? I don't know when The county's gonna take us away again I don't care about what they say I ain't gonna die that way Welfare mother drink yourself to sleep While silently your children weep" BOTH versions are freakishly excellent =] |
| The Germs – We Must Bleed Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is definately one of the best germs songs "I want out now" Doesn't that describe darby's life? Like, perfectly? |
| The Germs – Lexicon Devil Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| If anyone knows much about Darby Crash, I guess you'd know his dictator like ways, and how charismatic he was. I read somewhere that if Darby asked you for anything, people would just automatically give it to him, whether it was drugs or their shirt. you know, "gimme gimme this, gimme gimme that" | |
| The Dandy Warhols – Godless Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song. I relate it a lot to a friend who I had a falling out with, because it seems like I was giving her so much and so many chances, yet she acted souless and inhuman. | |
| The Germs – Circle One Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree, but I think Darby kind of viewed himself as the dicatator or leader of the Germs. If you've read "We've Got The Neutron Bomb" they talk a lot about his self-absorbance. He was fascinated with Hitler and Mussolini, just because of the entire control thing. Don't get me wrong, I think The Germs are most definately one of my favourite bands ever, that was just Darby's personality. But it's part of what made him so great. |
| Leftover Crack – Rock The 40 Oz. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think what I like most about this song is the reference to The Columbine Massacre in the begining. LOC definately pushes the envelope, but I really like them for it. There's something about this song that just makes you want to get up and shoot your classmates. |
| Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| existance is meaningless if we don't break the cycle. | |
| Dead Kennedys – Moon Over Marin Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song can be interpreted in so many different ways. At first, I thought it was about an oil spill, you know, "another tanker's hit the rocks, abandoned to spill out it's guts" but a friend of mine thought it could be about the aftermath of a nuclear war. GREAT dead kennedys song, so different from all their others! |
| The Dandy Warhols – Sleep Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I can't tell you how beautiful this song is. Of course, everyone has said that but the guitar in the begining is truly amazing. The whole song has this hazy, sleepy kind of drunk mood to it that completely takes you over. THAT'S when you know something is a good song - it completely changes your perspective. I've had this song on repeat for almost a month now. I just can't stop listening to it. |
