| The National – Mistaken for Strangers Lyrics

to me this song is talking about how everyone in the states is all the same. blue blazered reminds me of in the 50s when blue suits were really popular, and everything was all cut and dry and the same, and everyone worked at a bank (citibank). the mistaken for strangers is that everyone becomes so similar, that nobody can tell themselves apart from each other... arm in arm.
"Make up something to believe in your heart of hearts
so you have something to wear on your sleeve of sleeves"
makes me think of mindless political debates about litmus testing issues such as abortion, gay rights, and the war in iraq. just stupid back and forth stuff that doesn't go anywhere. and these arguments exist just because people feel they need to take a position on it, just for the sole purpose that they have a position. this song is really, really powerful. |

entropic also means random or unpredictable. so it could be a description of the playing field of love in life, and how because it has no order, some are left alone in the tundra. the cruelty of fate, perhaps. |

does anyone else think that "when we kiss our scars align" is a deliberate contrast to the line in "such great heights" about the freckles in eyes and such? |

perhaps she is referring to shaking paper being used to recreate the sound of thunder. this sound just kinda sounds like a t-storm to me anyways, with the snare drums almost being like rain. but i agree with alovelyfadeout, how no one is completely infallible and everyone, even your highly esteemed love interest. |

| Blonde Redhead – Falling Man Lyrics

viatriptop i agree with your statement about a specific song not having the same meaning to every person. but just because you've done acid doesn't mean you have some higher intelligence, thats just your junkie pride.
for me this song is about how one can feel completely inadequate in the scheme of life. like those times when you feel that no matter what you do, you're gonna fuck it up. and sometimes you fuck it up on purpose if things are going "too right." "falling man" and the comparison to a ghost seems to be a metaphor for how one (or the artist) has a lot left to learn. a ghost can do some incredible things, just like an older, wiser person. however, the falling man is like a person who although old, is angry that they are somewhat infantile when it comes to living life and dealing with it.
the lines, "When you start doubting me
Then I start to doubt myself
And never look through me
Cause I’ll keep close to myself" illustrate this for me. that is the falling. |
