| MC Lars – The Roommate from Hell (feat. MC Chris) Lyrics | 13 years ago |

was always a big mcchris fan and later (independently) got into MC Lars, you couldn't imagine how excited i was for this song. "pass that giant balloon of helium over here" as for song meaning, it kinda shows two different perspectives to a conflict between two people. both think that the other one is being unreasonable. |

Again, not reading through all the posts, but it is totally about drugs, but which one? I may be a little biased because i first herd this song when i was on aderall studying for an exam in college, but i would say this song is about amphetamines. "i'm useless, but not for long. the future is coming on" Obviously about the come up from drugs, but how are you more useful when you smoke pot, do heroine, take acid? it has to be about some sort of upper and the energy you get |

| Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 16 years ago |

i dont see too many references to religion at all, uses the word God alot, but not in a religious mannor. Bukowski's writting hardly ever talks about god, its all about him, quite self centered. The way he lived was that he was the "control freak" and "asshole". he would take everything around him and try and control everything usually reguardless of other people. "Every day turns out to be a little bit more like Bukowski" (close enough) Bukowski lived for himself, did what he wanted didnt think of society as a whole, or at least didnt think that he was a part of it if you havent read bukowski, how could you try to understand a song titled "bukowski"? |

i dont see too much about God in this song, i've read plenty of Bukowski, and God is really not a major theme in his stories. the "control freak" and "asshole" are the narrator, he controls everything taht happens to him, and the things he cant control he forgets about. that is how he brings himself happiness whilst being a bum and a drunk. "what good songs do you know?" "waht good curves can you throw?" he just takes life as is, and adjusts it to how he wants it. Bukowski is the name of the song and is mentioned plenty in the song so if you dont understand Bukowski, you cant understand the song Nine times out of ten Our hearts just get dissolved Well, I want a better place Or just a better way to fall But one time out of ten Everything is perfect for us all scarifice the liver |

i dont think that the girlfriend is dead, just moved on. Her halo and wings are hidden, under his eyes. he knows shes an "angel" (good person) but that remains to be scene, since all she does is lead him on in some way but is never there for him when she needs her. she cant stop telling lies, not like any real angels i know. his angel's kiss was a joke, since they have made up before, but she was just using him and he refuses to believe it. crashing cars in his brain with every little word that she says "keeps him tied to a dream," keeps giving him hope when all logic tells him to give up. it seems that he is telling his friend about this, telling his friend about her. only she can set him free, but he knows that its not coming so he tells his friend to "kill me now" instead of slowly, i dont think that he is considering suicide, but just an escape of any kind. "He has a reason to pray" since heaven sends and heaven takes, he understands that people can change and move on. he just wants to be okay, with or without her. James Dean didn't commit suicide, though he did die in a car crash that he was driving in. I've read that he might have been suffering from some sort of depression, but that could have just been from the pressure of stardom. Also that he made comments about death, not fearing it, but seeing it as an escape. not suicidal, just thoughts. |

| The Killers – Daddy's Eyes Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i dont think the song itself it about divorce, and i KNOW you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me leads me to think that they don't speak often. maybe she only calls him for a one night stand and the kid doesn't see that, its more of a grown up topic. I want to add only in that previous line, "and i know you [only] called because..." but its not, she and him see the relationship differently. He's got some problems since the last time they talked, maybe it was a while ago. |

Great song. I think what the father is trying to get across to his son is that there are bigger problems with the relationship between him and the child's mother then just the child. Trying to explain it, he goes off on tangents where he seems to be talking to the woman. Hes found ways to deal with the issues of the relationship, but in an unhealthy manor. Maybe they just needed some time apart, but were still together, but then it all changed for him and he couldn't stand it and started fooling around. It's not about guilt though, he had some problems and just delt with them by himself. The strongest line, "And I know that you called because you never even knew that it was hurting me" she never knew or maybe never cared how much the separation was hurting him, since he had to deal with it by himself, he would love to stay, thats what he wanted all along, but he cant because... He wants her to help him with his issues, to have her understand, but he knows if he tries to "stay" maybe the night, maybe in the relationship, he would end up bringing up the problems he was having and she would have had enough of him. "Sometimes people get tired and i woke up a little to late to lie" He could have delt with this the same as he always has, lie about it, cover it up, pretend like he is okay but this time it got too far and he started to show. "When the glove is on the other hand" could be because the child is living with his mother so he only really sees her side of the story, making the father look like a deadbeat. you can't compleatly understand someone else s problems unless you have lived though them, especially if they never talk about it. "Ill tell you what you want to know but boy you better listen close" The kid is the one who brought it up, he asked why he couldn't stay. This brings up all his problems and he says all the things hes been wanting to say to the woman that caused all of the problems. I have a tendency to see what i want to see in songs, i adapt them into my own life, but this one seems to work pretty well. anything to add? |

Awesome song I believe this song is about a person who has some issues in their life that they wont open up about. All they need is someone who will notice the problem talk to them about it. Once you realize how you need someone to talk to, you will notice that other people have the same type of problems. Now you talk to them about it and help them through it without worrying about your own problems. |

| Unwritten Law – Save Me (Wake Up Call) Lyrics | 17 years ago |

to me this song is much more about spirituality then it is about a drug addiction. there are only about 7 lines which are defantally about drugs, the rest are much more hazy. he lives the rock star life (drugs, alcohol, sex with hot doctors), while his lady friend is probably religious and is trying to get him to change,he probably makes a comment like "its my life, i can do what i want" when he goes to heaven, its like one huge rock concert, its what he loved and had fun with, and he couldnt get in. the whole car handle thing is that now he is in hell. he is at a huge concert, cant get in, and cant leave either, plus its raining. at the end of the song he regrets how he lived his life, but its too late to change anything. hes dead. if you have ever done something that you know to your self is bad, but you continuously do it again and again, then this song relates to you, drug use being one. |

| Less Than Jake – One Last Cigarette Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i agree with itipezgirl somewhat. kinda like a waste of a day, but its 4am, what the fuck else could you be doing? he was probably lying in bed, and wanted one last cigarette for the day, so he decides to take a walk around the block while smoking. when out there he realizes that this is the same thing he did yesterday, and will probably do tomorrow. | |

i think i disagree with rj and thegreattacoman slightly. to me, this song is about someones like that has not gone quite as planned. not just day by day, but maybe a summation of any number of years. the lyrics don't really give too much hope. it keeps repeating that he has messed up pretty bad, and that theres no one to blame but himself. he can write the best book... he is his own worst enemy... it also shows how much of a mess his life is. drinking and smoking problems away, which always feels better, but not a long term solution. not too much hope when you are spending your time at the liquor store, and sleeping o your best friend's kitchen floor. I'm happy that you can all us this song as an upper, but i think its more like a realization of how much life has fucked you, and in turn, you have fucked yourself. and first poster. just because no one commented, doesn't mean we don't like the song, jackass |

eris13, its not about being triumphant. the 2's and 3's doesn't beat someone who started with an ace and a 10, it only makes you equal. so about fucking him some, its not beating him, just making his victory less sweet. i enjoy the part, "you want the buzz back so you follow the others onto smack. ...Feels nice and still. Good thing about brown is it always will. |

I believe people are over looking as how this is the intro to the whole album. It starts off with him talking in the present time saying how he became a broken man and lost hope, and with his last ability (half-blind we wrot these songs on sheets of salty wood) he wrote down his story. there seems to be a theme of sailing, tiny caravels, sheets of salty wood, horseshoe crabs. the scratch across the lense, i take to mean like a look outglass, how what you can see through it is altered just from one scratch across the convex lense. then he goes and starts telling his story, about how he became an adulterous, and it all started with flirting with other boatmens wives and hitting on their daughters. then he says that you would need to have a redicilous amount of will power not to cheat on your wife while at sea. i dont know what a sailor has that is brass but the oxidation reduction reaction that causes tarnish is sped up from the salt that would be in the air while you are at sea. the same thing with mildew on glass. the line of "i've never wanted someone so crass as to want someone like me" is talking that he "wants" his wife to cheat on him, just so that they could put it behind them, crass is defined as "So crude and unrefined as to be lacking in discrimination and sensibility." -lacking sensibility. theres no reason why you would want your wife to cheat on you. "a few legues off of shore...that dull hook in my lip" where and when he cheated, on his boat while his wife was waiting for him on land. and he got with this other woman, because it seemed like the best at the time, but after words he realized it was all bells and whistles. "a memory is as useless as a rod with out a reel" saying that just the memory of his wife is not enough to satisify him, and that he needed more. "we keep our confessions long and when we pray we keep it short" probably the best line in the song, saying that we never know what to pray about, but we always make mistakes, so we are always in confession for a long time. Or that we like making the mistakes, deep down we dont want to be so religious and perfect, so we dont pray about that, but we always end up going to confess waht we did out of guilt. I believe the thimble full of fire is a shot glass with something like straight rum in it, which really burns on the way down, and the whole sterotype of sailors and their rum. but "i'm not ever going back" is that he is just drowning his sorrows in booze and he wont go back to land to see his wife and face up for what he's done. the last two lines can be taken two ways, the first is the more obvious, that G-d is perfect, and the singer feels unworthy to be seen by Him so instead he just shows him the perfect reflection of himself. and the other i believe would be he saying this about his wife, mostly mocking her. she would be saying how bad of a person he is, and he would respond by saying that no one is perfect, even though she claims to be. just my thoughts on an awsome song |
