I love how in the middle when it 'kicks in', and goes really fast, it's a bit like 'screw it, no more metaphors, this is what this song is really about'. |

No hidden meaning, it's about someone who's given up alcohol and feel like nothing's fun anymore without it, even though it's what's best for them.
"It may be what i need but it's certainly not how i wanna be." |

Same first verse as Motorcycle Ride, an earlier Rancid song, you know.
Dunno of any significance seeing as how that's about a girl who died, but meh. |

's about dentists, innit? X]
Gallows rule. They kind of restore my faith that there's a lot of good music out there at the moment if you look hard enough. And also that shrieking profanity can have some sort of beauty to it |

Pfft. s'not tuneless, i'm being completely honest, sivilla, and i think it's a really good song, if just for the slightly comedy factor. True, another band may have made it terrible, but Queen did it and i think they pulled it off pretty well. |

This song was the one that made me decide i REALLY need to check this band out. It's a love song, yeah, about nothing being quite certain in your world but the one you love, or something like that.
MilfordMir, i think part of the motivation for The Network, as well as a gimmick, was that they probably had all these songs that, while written by Green Day, wern't quite Green Day (can you imagine Green Day putting out Joe Robot on American Idiot? It wouldn't really fit.) They wanted to create some 80's synth-y music, and couldn't really do that in the band they were in. At the same time, i don't really think they wanted The Network to have all it's success off the back of Green Day, or for people to have previous expectations of them, so they pretended to be different people. Quite thinly, but they still deny that they are The Network.
Anyhoo, that's what i think. |

Yeah, i'm a Green Day nut and there's no doubt in my mind that this is Billie Joe, and The Network is Green Day and possibly Devo, but i havn't really heard any Devo so i can't judge whether the voice in other Network songs is the Devo guy. Saying i'm a Green Day nut though, i heard this song before i even knew about The Network/Green Day thing and thought it was awesomeness imbodied. I also thought then that it sounded a lot like Billie Joe but was kind of "no way.....nah, they must just come from the same area or something."
I only just noticed....it is kinda the American Idiot story, innit? Ha! wow. |

When i fist heard this my immediate thought was 'Oh, they've all just sat in a room while off thier faces and written down random lyrics that don't make much sense, just for kicks.'
Along with the whole not wanting people to analize thier lyrics too much thing, i think that may just be it. |

| Ramones – We Want the Airwaves Lyrics

The tune to this song is more or less exactly the same as The Ramones "I'm Affected"... so maybe it was just making a statement about wanting to get played and wanting to get rock and roll alive, but keeping the tune as one that people knew, or, you know, they couldn't be bothered coming up with a new one, meh. Something like that. But yes, i agree with the last two comments. |
