| The Doors – Yes, The River Knows Lyrics

I heard an interview with Robbie about this song, He said that his goal was to put forth some imagery and allow the listening to draw their own conclusions. Basically, the song "is about what you think" it's about. He's also mentioned in the past that Jim would always advise him to write about universal things to which everyone can relate to.
So to me, this is about a breakup and the heavy emotional tumult that leads up to one. I always imagined that "the river" was a stream of tears and that he was trying to gather his courage to leave his love behind. And well, maybe indulge in some mystic heated liquid courage to help... |

As mentioned, it sounds like he's taking the persona of Lucifer enticing someone. Is it Eve? Is it Christ's temptation? Is it one of countless others? The message seems the same. |

This song is definitely about Lucifer, the Prince of Light. In particular it's about showing defiance in for the final battle with Heaven. Lucifer explain why he and his brood were cast out, and that these sins are the exact ones he will use to corrupt humanity. Definitely a bitter Lucifer that seems to feel he doesn't deserve his lot, but will use it to spite God. |

Using words with double meaning was a very Jim Morrison thing to do. "Come" is one Jim loved to use himself. |

This, to me, has always been about male puberty. How hard (no pun intended) it is to deal with rampant hormonal urges in the midst of a sexually compelling world. And it's nothing new that orgasm has often been referred to as a small death, so the sacrificing could very well mean masterbation. |

| The Doors – Break on Through (To the Other Side) Lyrics

It's easy to say that the song is about just "breaking through" with drugs. But it's deeper than that. Drugs, if you read any of the Doors books, will say that they were a tool of Jim's, but breaking through was not just the act of dropping acid or smoking a joint. It was a means to an end, and the end, is quite possible death. He lived life with as much of a death-wish as a zeal for life. He was curious about what lay after it all.
If you look at the last two lines before the last chorus, it echoes Matthew 7:13-14, as some biographers and scholars have stated:
“Wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and... strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life,”
In the end, I have to say that breaking through is seeing while lied beyond death, and what's in between is a means to an end... ah... nihilism. |

This is a comment on war, politicians, and killing. Mostly how the people in charge can traud anyone out there to die and make everything justifiable, even murder. And of course, it leads into "Break on Through". |

Very often Danzig sings about sex guised in demonic fluff. This song, I think is about S&M, domination and the like. I always imagined that flame he speaks of to be a whip... |

This song is vengeful and bitter. This is definitely a man that is couping with loss by pointing out how much worse his former love is. But really, in the end, this song is about him and how HE can't let go either. |

It sounds like a very public breakup to me. The kind that sucks in everyone around you and takes a life of it's own. |

I think this song touches on the ugliness that permeates just underneath the average person's life. How a typical person could be a Klansman, how an ordinary wife can succumb to drugs. Rozz was very keen on in-your-face images about the ugliness of life and this song throws out scenes for you to confront and to acknowledge just how rotten society's core truly is... |

"Satori" means enlightenment. And it seems to me like that's what the song is about the terribly difficult search for satori, it's like a long bitter trail that you keep following despite the hardship, going solely on the description of others as you've never seen it with your own eyes. Yeah... it's all rather Buddhist sounding to me. |

Or... (2) could also be about a broken heart now that I think about it. As if his words completely destroyed something of love and value and now he's left barren. |

Lets see... it seems to me that some of the verses were sorta' put in as filler, assuming the "Exquisite Corpse" game was used to write this song, some of the filler parts were thrown in by the less lyrically adept (or out of sheer sense of humor) such as "Life is but a dream..." Although (2) definitely seems like someone expressing their misgivings about aging. (3) I would say was about someone being extremely ill or hung-over just looking completely horrid. |

I always believed that this song sort of alluded to tragic love, like Romeo & Juliet. The imagery to me just seems very Shakespearean. |
