Old pirates yes they rob I the first line pretty much covers most of the song itself. Old pirates-referring to the people who have long been good at seafaring(the Europeans) and explaining how they colonised and made black people slaves.(sold him to the merchant ships) Refers to them as pirates because 1-pirates rob people off, 2- pirates are good at seafaring.The means of colonisation was possible through seafaring as you may know. Some good deep meaning going there. But my 'and was made strong By the 'and of the Almighty. We forward in this generation Triumphantly. -You know black people are genetically superior and have a strong physical build because God created them that way. They forward in this generation and still they survived, nonetheless. The rest of the song goes along with the idea that black people should resist being slaved mentally and only through emancipating themselves from mental slavery can they stop the ongoing white supression. How long shall dey kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look? Some say it's just a part of it, We've got to fulfill de book. The white changed the bible , Bob probably believes the original book is somehow different and goes on saying "some say its just a part of it(missing)",but implies that it is not just a part of it,there is more to it. The black should resist to their prophets(their true religious beliefs) being killed/erased (probably through manipulating the Bible's content) .They should not put up with this anymore and should not stand aside and look,they should act and fulfill the book.Understand and find the true meaning of the book. and one last thing my interpretation of the atomic energy part. He says the time will heal their wounds no matter how big the damage(atomic energy) would be. Just like it did in the past , rising from slavery to forwarding triumphantly as Bob puts it .As atomic energy can not stop the time they will be healed eventually. |

I think this song is about telling someone that you love her,he is not sure whether to tell that person or not(I know i will get to this place when I feel the time is right...)but when he tries to go on with it he can not see the flame in her eyes,she lost interest in him maybe,and when he climbs to the top(when he thinks that she has responded positively to his feeling),he still can not see the sun,and happiness. cuz you know the flame is GONE.Close to perfection great song... |

| ok here's my interpretaion of the song.i think the song is more about the drugs than love and relationship stuff.whatever happens he cant let go off the drugs''i will take it by your side'',he is tied to it its like an infatuation to him.but he knows whats going to happen in the end he is getting old and his skin curls because of the effects of drug abuse.he an UNCLEAN,doesnt this refer to the drugs;)and everytime the drug vents its spleen(shows its effects in a harsh and sudden way)he feels anaesthetized and loses the power of speech,and when he is under the influence the time passes so slow(tick tock reference)and its losing its effect slowly(you slipping slowly from my reach),the drugs makes him strong and helps him forget about his loneliness.Without the drugs He falls(it grows him tall and when he is not under the effect of the drugs he falls) and he is nothing at all.he is back at lonely times without drugs. | |
