Angus and Julia Stone – And the Boys Lyrics 14 years ago
Maybe it's about her losing faith in love? The verses are about a specific guy and all the problems they had, and the chorus is about how the boys go on and on but none of them are it, and everything seems to be losing the shine (gold) that it had when she was young and innocent - the ceiling of this world is her environment, the heartbeat of this girl is her own faith, the things she should have learned and heard are the knowledge that kills off that childhood innocence (should have learned meaning that she gets this lesson over and over again but is only just seeing it now).

Yeah, I got that too...I'm amazed no one else thought of it, it makes a lot more sense.

What an awesome song.

I love the line "Is this all we get to be absolute".

Very...philosophical thought provoking.

It's amazing that they can convey so much atmosphere and emotion without lyrics. Brilliant. I like MovieTrailer's explanation, it explains the quiet bit in the middle.

Thirteen Senses – Ones and Zeros Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah, it's definitely code. Can't find lyrics ANYWHERE that have it as code though, they all say cold. Then again, they were probably all by the same person, because they're all missing the apostrophe on "body's".

I'd like to think it's NOT about a girl, just because it's so...cliche. I'd like to think Thirteen Senses is above that.

I think maybe it's about how society today keeps trying to ignore things that aren't convenient - "Floating around the softer side of things you know" - and how we don't care about things as much anymore, everything's all...mechanical and unemotional, like binary.

But then that's a little hypocritical, because in the third verse, he blames it on a "tiny drug", and if the point is to say we don't like to think about inconvenient things, it's hardly fair to blame it on a drug instead of society.

But anyway, great song. I LOVE the atmosphere, it's brilliant.

Hawthorne Heights – Disaster Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's about Casey dying. Most of the songs on this album seem to be. It was a disaster cause he died and they're trying to piece their lives and their band and stuff back together.

Hawthorne Heights – Sugar In The Engine Lyrics 17 years ago
Probably my favourite song on the album, closely followed by Disaster. The rest are...too happy...I was never really a fan of the screaming, but HH has definitely taken a turn for the worse after Casey's death.

This would easily be the best song on the album if it wasn't for the chorus XP. But I still like it. This and Sugar In The Engine are my favourites out of the album. The rest sound too...happy...Hawthorne Heights and happy don't exactly go together too well...

Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics 17 years ago
Am I the only one who got this song from "The Last Kiss"'s soundtrack? Did EVERYONE get it from the OC?

Beautiful song though, it's in a genre of its own. Now I'm sad that there aren't more songs like this though. But I suppose that would detract from Hide And Seek's special-ness.

Small Mercies – Innocent Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is amazing. Small Mercies are amazing.

I can't believe only two people have commented on it. It's crazy.

But yeah, great song.

I agree with bubble.gum mostly about the lyrics, it's about him doing something wrong and then saying that everyone makes mistakes and he's just human.

Anberlin – Hello Alone Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is BEAUTIFUL!! GENIUS!! I LOVE it. And the lyrics are COMPLETELY wrong. These are the right ones:

Is this where the interstate ends?
In coastal towns like this.
Waiting for my world to cave under.
We seem to invent ourselves, in the places left unknown.
If hope could only find me out.

Is this the end of everything we know?
This is the end of everything I am.

Is anybody out there?
Hello! Hello!
Broken hearts like promises are left for lesser knowns.
Is anybody out there?
Alone! Alone!
Because the coldest winters thrive...

Depression is the unholy ghost, in the coastal towns ahead.
Though I know a thousand names, I see my only friend.
I've got the gun, all I need is ten cents for the bullet.
I feel helpless, sleeping at best, waiting for your return.
Are you ever coming home?

Is anybody out there?
Hello! Hello!
Broken hearts like promises are left for lesser knowns.
Is anybody out there?
Alone! Alone!
Because the coldest winters thrive on broken homes.
Broken homes...

Does anybody (Does anybody),
Do they ever listen? (Do they ever listen?)
Does anybody (Does anybody),
Care at all? Do they care at all?
Do they care at all? Do they care at all?
Do you care at all, do you care at all?!

Is this the end of everything we know?
This is the end of everything I am.

Is anybody out there?
Hello! Hello!
Broken hearts like promises are left for lesser knowns.
Is anybody out there?
Alone! Alone!
Because the coldest winters thrive on broken homes.

Is anybody out there?
Hello! Hello!
Broken hearts like promises are left for lesser knowns.
Is anybody out there?
Alone! Alone!
From a lesser known, I’m here,
And there's hope, there's hope...

Anberlin is great. I love them. Beautiful.

Hmm...I think noaheatsbeef might be right...and I like the idea of the irony...I suppose now that I've read that, the bit where he sings "you'll never be alone again/isn't that what you wanted/no you'll never be alone again/I'm right here with you" DOES sound kinda mocking...

And thank GOD some people on this site have at least REASONABLE spelling...I was just reading the comments for "Paperthin Hymn" by Anberlin...the spelling was TERRIBLE...it was an eyesore to read...some guy spelt label as lable and Christian as Christion. Don't ask me how. *shudder*

And I am procrastinating once again, so I shall get back to maths homework.

Anberlin – Paperthin Hymn Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, Anberlin AREN'T a Christian band. Stephen Christian said in an interview somewhere that people just pin them as a Christian band, but they're not. His lyrics tend to be a bit on the religious side, but they aren't officially Christian. Also, Tooth and Nail Records IS NOT a Christian label, they USED to be.

And who says they don't sing about sex? The hotel rooms thing probably isn't about sex, but in Godspeed, there's a line that says "When needles and lovers collapse on guilty beds". Give me ONE way that "lovers collapse on guilty beds" could be about anything other than sex.

Anberlin is ABSOLUTE GENIUS though, I LOVE them. Paperthin Hymn is one of my all-time favourite songs, along with Hello Alone and Dismantle Repair and Glass To The Arson. Great stuff. Love their lyrics and guitar.

I love this song...I hope the rest of their new album is as good as this one...I wonder what the theme for "Smile For Them" is? And it's coming out October 30th, not September.

I think the new album's concept might be about being what society wants you to be...I'm just guessing though...there might not even BE a concept...but their last two albums had concepts and I like the whole concept thing.

Armor for Sleep – Very Invisible Lyrics 18 years ago
Hey,

I can’t BELIEVE no one has commented on the actual MEANING of this song yet...it’s a bit creepy actually...(the song, not that no one has commented)

I think he used to be her boyfriend, but he died, and now, he came back as a ghost. She can feel that he’s there, but she probably thinks she’s just going a bit deluded so she’s pretending she can’t feel him.

I’m REALLY bored right now and I have an assignment due tomorrow for which I am procrastinating, so I’m gonna do a more detailed explanation.

“Remember two years ago? When you broke down and cried to me
About how you couldn’t be alone, how you needed me next to you?
You made me promise on your tears, to never let you be
Without my voice inside your ears. Well, I found my way back.”

This is pretty self-explanatory; it’s basically saying that she made him promise never to leave her. “Well, I found my way back” is him saying that he came back (as a ghost).

“You’ll never be alone again.
Isn’t that what you wanted?
You’ll never be alone again.
I’m right here with you.”

Also pretty self-explanatory, it’s saying that he came back as a ghost and is haunting her, so she’ll never be alone again, because he’s right there, even if she can’t see him. I LOVE this bit, it’s so...creepy when you’re listening to it...it’s great...

“Remember when I was here? I tried to be as thick as the world.
You called me out just to see if I could be real enough
To never take your heart from you, and leave it all alone.
I came back down to stay with you, even if you don’t know.”

“Remember when I was here” obviously means when he was alive. I have NO idea what “I tried to be as thick as the world” means...makes no sense to me. Anyone got any ideas for that?

“You called me out just to see if I could be real enough to never take you heart from you, and leave it all alone” means that she was trying to see if he really loved her, so she called him to go somewhere, and I THINK this was when he died, on his way to wherever she wanted him to go.

The last line means that he DID go where she told him to, but she couldn’t see him because he was already dead by then, but he went as a ghost.

“I know you feel me next to you.
You can’t shake me off, can’t shake me off,
This time around.
You’re trying hard to kill the truth.
So stop playing around, stop playing around,
You know you’re not wrong.”

The first three lines basically mean that he knows she can feel him, and she can’t get rid of him this time. The rest means that she’s trying to convince herself that she’s just a bit deluded, because who would really believe that her boyfriend’s ghost is following her? And he’s trying to teel her to stop trying to fool herself, because she’s not wrong. AND THE LYRICS ON THIS SITE ARE WRONG...it’s not “you know you’re not alone”, it’s “you know you’re not wrong”.

“I tried, my heart doesn’t beat,
There’s no ground under my feet,
I’m floating over your bed now.
I’ll be the voice in the dark,
The freezing cold in your heart,
That you thought died away with me.”

“I tried, my heart doesn’t beat, there’s no ground under my feet” is reinforcing the idea that he’s dead and a ghost. He’s floating over her bed, and he’s pretty much just telling her he’s going to haunt her.

The rest in pretty much repeating what he just said.

And why is it that I can so easily write 720 words on a song like this, which isn’t really all that deep is you think about it (although it’s a GREAT song), but I can’t even write 500 STUPID words on the poem I’m supposed to be analysing?? And poems are supposed to be deep and have symbolism and poetic techniques and crap as well. This sucks.

ANYWAY, great song. There’s my analysis. Tell me if I’m WAY off. But I’m REALLY sure that’s right.

I'm not sure about the "crashing through the parlor doors" part...
Does SHE crash through the parlor doors and is surprised to see him there?
Or does HE crash through the parlor doors to object to the wedding?
