But I really don't get what its significancei s. Anyone care to give an opinion?

Panic! at the Disco – The Piano Knows Something I Don't Know Lyrics 17 years ago
I really don't know what this song is about at all, but it's my favorite song on the new album just for the music.

To be frank, the new album reminds me of a poor version of the Beatles. I respect this kind of music a lot, and I think it musically it is technically just as good as the old album but in a very differnt way.

However, the lyrics are too complex and not as straightforward. What I liked about old Panic was that the lyrics were depthful and thoughtful withotu being too confusing. These are too confusing in my opinion.

I respect the new album, but like so many of the other bands I like, I fidn myself listening to the old album still constantly and the new album never. I wish they hadn't changed, becuase I would have really enjoyed another AFYCSO. But bands change. Ah well.

All Time Low – Sticks, Stones, and Techno Lyrics 18 years ago
"Show me the skyline and I'll show you decadence,
a subtle reminder of hearts filled with loneliness,
give me your worst words and I'll bring the sticks and stones,
I'd hate to use them,
you can't shake it with broken bones..."

Even if this is song was actually a joke, this is such a depthful and amazing verse lyrically. I don't even like the song much, love ATL, but the words get to me so much I find myself listening to it all the time.

Show me the skyline and I'll show you decadence, a subtle reminder of our hearts filled with loneliness... like breakdown and the beautiful but decadent nature of what we create. It's beautiful, but empty.

Give me your worst words and I'll bring the sticks and stones, I'd hate to use them. You can't shake it with broken bones... I love this. It's such a perfect play on words. Like the irony of supposedly "not caring" about words, but bringing sticks and stones because you're at the end of your rope. 'I'd hate to use them' being again ironic and somewhat sarcastic.

Love that verse again all together.

I love All Time Low's first album, it's so catchy and absolutely fantanstic... but for me this new album just doesn't cut it. Put Up or Shut Up is hard to top, granted, for a new band, but still. It's just all right.

This is the one song that really stands out to me. I love the girl's part.

I also think it's moving away just for the context of "I'm over you now" suggests more like she's leaving the relationship seemingly okay.

I agree with the Donnie Darko reference, which btw is an amazing, genius movie. But the Degausser reference makes sense too, moreso beacues of that song on The Devil and God named after it.

The song is clearly about the struggles of fame, homesickness, etc. I love this part:

"My secrets for a buck
Watch me as I cut myself wide open
on this stage. Yes, I am paid to spill my guts
I won't see home till spring
Oh, I would kill for the Atlantic,
but I am paid to make girls panic while I sing"

It's genuis the way he puts it. "secrets for a buck, watch me as i cut myself wide open..." is like saying he gets up there and sings these songs to the masses that he wrote based on his personal, deep expereineces. He's spilling his perosnal life to the world. The sarcasm and irony is great. The "paid to make girls panic..." line is almost hilarious. Jesse is a genius.

Quietdrive – Both Ways Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is beautiful, again, as is Get Up. I love Quietdrive.

The song definetely portrays difficulties in a relatinoship, but I think the line "As simple as it sounds, I think I've found the perfect way to grow old" is saying like basically I'm in love and I would love to spend my life with you, I don't think growing old would be so bad if it's with you. I think it's really sweet.

Motion City Soundtrack – L.G. FUAD Lyrics 18 years ago
"I wanna know what it's like to be awkward and innocent, not belligerent.
I wanna know how it feels to be useful and pertinent and have common sense.. yeah
Let me in, let me in to the club, cuz I wanna belong,
And I need to get strong, and if memory serves,
I'm addicted to words and they're useless."

I love that verse. I think the first line is kind of mourning the permanent loss of innocence that turns into cynicism with experience. The second and third lines is kind of regretting never having found a place and feeling awkward all the time.
I think the last line kind of mocks his own songwriting talent, like he's addicted to expressing himself through words but words do nothing in reality, so it's kidn of ironic.

Also, "It's the only way I have learned to express myself, through other people's descriptions of life."
Quite emo, but I love it. Like his inability to feel that he's experiencing life like it's supposed to be, and express how he feel. So he relies on what other people tell him like is supposed to be like, etc.

The vocals are really quite good in this song, and the punctuating you hear on words like "DIE" at the end, and "forget me nots and marigolds" are really cool and grab your attention. I'm not a huge Motion City Soundtrack fan, but this song is really very good.

Chiodos – Baby, You Wouldn't Last A Minute On The Creek Lyrics 18 years ago
It's definetely a song about a dying friendship that both of them, or just one of them, cared a lot about the friendship but they've been hurt so much that they just need to go as far away from eachother as they can.
I love the line:
"It could be like we never knew eachother at all.
All ego's aside, what do you say?"

It's like saying walking away isnt necessarily the most noble, or moral, or right thing to do, but can they just put aside their pride and act like they never had any connections at all beacuse it's waht hurts the least.

My friend since we were 4, best friend I thought, betrayed me and essentially left me for dead. I missed her for who I thuoght she was, but once I realized that she never changed and that was who she had always been, my life got better. Now a few months later, my life is getting really good and she keeps trying to stalk me and hold onto our "friendship". I'm essentially to the point where I want to beg her to leave me alone beaucse I want so badly to forget that she exists, but I won't give her that.

And if you'd like "awkward sileneces" Chiodos, try her locker is right next to mine, out of thousands in the school.

I agree with kaialohax as to the more definitive meaning.

Okay, Poof*Maggie*Tada
Brand New is only popular in the hardcore alternative scene, they're otherwise relatively unknown. They're not metal, definetely. You could I guess call them alternatiev or rock, but I'd say, if you use the term, theyre certainly emo. Their lyrics are genius. The sound is sort of liek a softer rock in their later albums and a classic pop punk in their first one. I prefer the later ones personally.
They're hard to classify, you should just give them a listen, but it's a very particular soudn and if you don't like it, you'll hate it. But I love it, haha. If you're looking for a sample of their music try this song, along with maybe Play Crack the Sky, Guernica, or The Shower Scene. Hope that helps =)

Let me start by applauding the title of this song. It's perfectly dark and terribly true. I love it.

It's very difficult to understand but my favorite line is "We're comatose but audible."

I read a bunch of intepretations of that line and I think all of them could be right. Personally, I think it's like, and this is going to sound really depressing, like people are broken and really just going through the motions of life but not really living (comatose) but they're (audible). They can be heard, they speak, they appear to be alive. Anyway, that's what popped into my head when I heard it.

Taking Back Sunday – One-Eighty By Summer Lyrics 18 years ago
This song whatever its meaning isn't really applicable to my life, but the line "My best side was your worst invention" I think oculd mean something more depthful that no ones thougt of yet apparently.

When someone really really hurts you, or you lose someone in a painful way or they betray you, it obviously hurts. However, most of the time I think we'll agree that it makes you stronger after you get over the pain. You learn more, and you know more about life, adn you're able to take things better later. You get a stronger less naive part to you. I think this could mean "my best side" like this part of you, was this person's "worst invnteion" because while they invented it by betraying him, it was a horrible thing to do. So it's a terrible invnetion, but it ended up being his best side in a way. Idk how else to explain it, and it might not be what it originally means but I think that's a good way to look at it.

Wow, I hate how every TBS song I look at or Brand New is about the feud between Jesse, John, and Adam. But I did learn about all this through songmeanings.net. I've read countless posts abotu the feud and I'm not going to lie, I think it's absolutely fascinating and makes all their songs even more relatable since it's a true situation. However, while everyone's takes on what happened with them are different, it seems like mostly everyoen agrees on the following things, and after reaidng up I'm pretty sure this is the deal.

1. John Nolan and Jesse grew up together, as best friends.
2. Jesse was lined up to be in TBS(?). However, John slept with Jesse's girlfriend and they had huge fights about it. This is where the 'phone call' lines from Seventy Times 7 and There's No I In Team Come in.
3. Jesse started Brand New, and Adam joined TBS.
4. Jesse wrote Seventy Times 7 and John wrote There's No I in Team
5. Jesse and John worked things out a little later and became good friends again.
6. Adam dated Michelle Nolan, John's sister, for a while.
7. Adam cheated on Michelle, obviously infuriating John.
8. Him and John fought a lot and John eventually left TBS, taking Shaun with him to start Straylight Run. Michelle also joined.
9. Jesse got involved and sided with John, furthur pissing off Adam.
10. John and Adam had one last fight, because John wrote There's No I in Team, it was personal, and Adam was still singing it at TBS concerts.

That's the story so far as I know. I think it's pretty comical in a way. Such drama. So entertaining =)

Taking Back Sunday – Timberwolves at New Jersey Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, I think the meaning of most parts of this song has already been covered, but I just had to comment on a few parts because this song is so powerful and one of the best on the album.

What will it take to make you admit that you were wrong?
Was his demise so carefully constructed?
Well let's just say I got what I wanted
(I think the first line is obvious. Like the person knows that they're wrong, I think it oculd be a friend or a relationship. It doesn't really matter. Most osngs can apply to a freindship or a relatioship. I think the next two lines should be written more like:

"Was his demise so carefulyl constructed?"
"Well, let's just say I got what I wanted."

Like someone is asking the friend/ex girlfriend in a sarcastic way if they planned it out to hurt him. And they respond in the true way, saying they did what they "had to" to get what they wanted and dont' really crae how it hurt the toher person.)

This is you trying hard to
make sure that you're seen
With a girl on your arm
and your heart on your sleeve
Remind me not to ever think of you again
This is me with the words
on the tip of my tongue
And my eye through the scope
down the barrel of a gun
Remind me not to ever act this way again

(Absolutely love this part. It's so emotionally powerful. The first part about the girl on the arm, I think this implies it's more of a friend who screwed him over. LIke his friend is walking around with girls, making sure that he sees them, trying to make himself look good since they hate eachother now.

The second part is so blunt. Basically he's saying he has all this stuff to say but doesn't, they're still just in his head because he can't get them out, so now he's basically resorting to, not necessarily shooting him, which is what it means if you take it literally, but resorting to extreme methods to get back at the other person, or make htem see they were wrong.)

This song is amazing. I think it's one of the best punk rock songs ever.

Taking Back Sunday – Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team) Lyrics 18 years ago
These closing verses are one of my top favorites in any song, ever. They're simply amazing.

Hoping for the best just hoping nothing happens
(saying things are so complicatd and bad that the best you dare to hope for is that nothing happens to make it worse, or all fall apart)
A thousand clever lines unread on clever napkins
(I think this is an image like, a thousand lines written about how you feel, witty and clver, like these lyrics, and written on napkins or whatever was at hand, but no one will read them becuase the feelings are irrelevant)
I will never ask if you don't ever tell me
I know you well enough to know you never loved me.
(self explainitory but great. It's like we spend so much time together and know eachother so well, and you know how I feel, but we both know you don't feel hte same so we'll just pretend it doesn't exist)

I stay wrecked and jealous
for this simple reason I
just need to keep you in mind
as something larger than life
(I love this. I think it's saying like he's staying destoryed and jealous of his love's new guy and he can't get past it, all the time. He's saying because he can't do this and he's jealous and wrecked, he needs to picture her as something that's larger than life, as something that's fantastic and amazing, something that's worth all the pain he's putting himself through. So that he can tlel himself that it's not for nothing.)

Anyway this has probably all been said, but i just love this song.

The Academy Is... – Skeptics and True Believers Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my favorite TAI songs. I might be kind of biased on te meaning because I realte to it so much, but here goes.

Don't be so scared
We will not lead you on
Like you've been doing for weeks
(This could apply to a friendship or relationship. I'm going to go with friendship for now. It's like, you've been lying to me and leading me on, making me believe you about something, someone. Now I've figured it out, but don't freka out becaues I"m not going to start manipulating you too.)

So you're selfish and I'm sorry
When I'm gone, you'll be going nowhere fast
Nowhere fast, nowhere fast
(The first line is pretty self explanitory. I like how they flip it in the second verse so it's "I'm selfish, adn you're sorry. It shows how it's all about perspective. Then he's saying, fine this is over, but you need me more than I needed you, so it's basically your loss, and you'll regret it when I'm gone.)

Someone somewhere said some things
That may have sparked some sympathy
But don't believe
Don't believe a word you've heard
(This might be directed like at mutual friends or other people around them, saying how people all feel bad for him or something, or pity him, but he doesn't want their pity because the things they hear aren't true and he isn't feeling how they think he is, but he can't explain it)

I think it's one of those songs that can be interpreted a hundred different ways about all different kinds of relationships, and still be right.

This is juts the situation I went through. My best friend backstabbed me and dated the guy I was in love with, effectively ending our freindship. But she needed me more than I need her, I have a feeling thing's will work out my way, and this song helps with that hope.

You'll put your eyes to the sun and say "I know"
You're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding.

That's an amazing line. But I think the quotes should extend all the way past hiding. Like, "I know you're only blinding to keep back what the clouds are hiding."

I think that might be referring in general to the way people (the sun) are so bright and flashy, etc, (blinding), but only to keep back whio they really are (the clouds), or what they're going through, back. So like shoving all this fake bright/happiness out in the open, so people never question anything deeper in yourself.

Okay, I've never heard any idea of what this song is about, however, I'm sorry xxprincess, but that is really kind of stupid. Of course he could just write abotu the breakup. Why not? Sticking a verse in there about a girl would just make it about a girl, not HIDE the real meaning... I mean, "No, It Isn't" is about the breakup, adn it's an amazing song. I don't think he had to write liek 500 songs about the breakup.

Writing about a girl in a song you want to be a bout a band's breakup isn't subtle, its stupid and illogical. Mark wouldn't do that.

This is an addictive song musically.

I think everyone has already got the gist of the meaning of the song, but I just wanted to point out the interesting title, ti seems to fit with teh song.

"There is No Mathematics to Love or Loss"
It's pretty straightforward, but I realized I didn't really think about what that meant and how true it was until months after hearing the song, and how it fits with the song being about a lost relatnoship. Most things in life have some sort of logical way or sorting them out, but not love, obviously, and loss - sometimes we have a ridiuclous amount and sometimes we have none, it's never fair, never mathematical. Somewaht cliche, but cleverly put.

It's my fist vs. the bottle
And that's how bad could this hurt
or against I won't feel a thing

Those lines are great. I'm not sure what the whole song is about, but I'm pretty sure this line is comparing certain ways different people react to extreme emotions of pain, and he's not sure about himself.
"my fist vs. the bottle, and that's how bad this could hurt," I think that's putting a metaphor on the extreme pain some people continue to feel after they're hurt - as bad as punching a glass bottle. Then "against I won't feel a thing" I think means how some people become completely numb almost immediately. He may not feel anything at all.

That's just my interpretation, feel free to agree or shoot it down. Love the song either way.

I love the lines "Why do we like to hurt so much? Pain, make your way to me and I'll always be so inviting."

I think it's adressing what a lot of songs kind of deny, which is that in a sick way we almost like to hurt a lot over someone we really care about, because even if they're negative emotions, it's a deep feeling of real passion for someone. In a way, we don't fight it a lot. I'm not sure if that's what they were pushing, but that's my personal opinion.

Fall Out Boy – I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm the first kid to write of hearts, lies, and friends

(I love this line, I think it's completely sarcastic. Saying liek this is just another of the many songs about classic stereotypical things like hearts, lies and friends.)

Find a safe place, brace yourself, bite your lip
I'm sending your fingernails and empty bottles you've sipped
Back to your family cause I know you will be missed

(I think this whole song is pretty much sarcastc, this part included. I think this part is takling baout like the kind of creepy obsession she probably thinks he has with her, or he seems to have with her, like sarcasm about collecting random things, creepy things like empty bottles and fingernails, and shipping them back to her family. I don't think it's a reference to killing anyone.)

They call kids like us vicious and carved out of stone
But for what we've become, we just feel more alone
Always weigh what I've lost against what I left
Progress report: I am missing you to death

(This is absolutely one of my favorite verses in a song ever. He's talkig abou thow nowadays angry or "disturbed" kids are referenced as "vicious" and having no sympathy or love or caring - "carved out of stone".
Then he says "for what we've become we just feel more alone." I think this means kids have become liek this, numb and cold, because of the things that happen to them, and so they isolate themselves, but as a result of that isolation they feel more alone and numb.
The next two lines I think are referencing how when we make a change, we look at what we have now and if we're not happy with it, we keep comparing it to the thing we left behidn, and saying "shit, why did I do that?" And I think the last line is self explanatory.

This is one of my favorite Fall Out Boy song, lyrically it really gets me.

I love this song so much. I relate to it so much. It's about ruining a friendship, in this case Adam is writing about how he slept with lead singer of Brand New's (excuse me for not knowing his name) girlfriend, and it almost destoryed their friendship.
It's a response to Brand New's "Seventy Times 7" as if that hasn't been said 500 times already.

This is my favorite verse:

And I've got a twenty-dollar bill
that says you're up late night starting
fist fights vs. fences in your backyard
Wearing your black eye like a badge of honor
Soakin' in sympathy
from friends who never loved you
nearly half as much as me"

I think he's saying he's betting that the guy is up, starting fistfights (vs. fences) - so not hurting anyone, just punching walls, fences, etc. Idk, that's a stretch. He's saying he bets he's with lots of other friends who are looking at his black eye and teling him how sorry they are, how bad they feel, (soaking in sympathy). Then Adam is saying these friends never loved him nearly half as much as Adam always has, so it's ridiculous.

I lovee this song. The lyrics are as good, maybe better, than Seventy Times 7, and almost as powerful.

Taking Back Sunday – Error Operator (Louder Now version) Lyrics 18 years ago
This is one of my favorite verses in a song.
I think how it's actually meant to be heard, or written, is

"Would you do it again?"
Count backwards from ten.
Look, I don't make those mistakes no more."

I think that changes the context, but thats how it makes the most sense to me and I think how it's supposed to be understood.

I think someone is asking 'would you do it again?" and this makes him really upset, becaues 'it' was bad, or something he regrets. He tells himeslf to count backwards from ten (the classic anger control method) so he doens't get too upset. Then his response to said person is "Look, I don't make those mistakes no more."

I love that verse. Taking Back Sunday all aroudn isn't one of my favorite lyricistic groups, but they have some really great lines.

I really liked the first few intepretations about it being about religion and beign raised into something in a childlike faith that as you grow older you find yourself fighting to believe. I relate to that.
But I'm not so sure, only because of the reference to wedding bells. If you can tie that in there then I may agree...

Either way, I love the line "The whole truth is ntohing but a good excuse for "so long as you don't torture me with your past.""

It's so specific. It's like telling someone "let's put the past away, don't torture me with it, I don't want to know which skeletons are in your closet. It's too hard to know." And then the person says, "Well, the WHOLE TRUTH IS." Telling someone the 'whole truth' is just a way to make sure they know everything about your past.

(+44) – No It Isn't Lyrics 18 years ago
While this song very well could be Mark writing to Tom, I personally related to it through applying it to a relationship.

“I listen to you cry
I cry for less attention
But both my hands are tied
And I'm pushed into the deep end
I listen to you talk, but talk is cheap
My mouth is filled with blood from trying not to speak”

I think the first two lines are talking about someone that you may really care about. This person doesn’t care for you like you do for them. I think it’s saying you are listening to them ask (cry) for less attention from you, for you to not love them or just forget about them.

But the next two lines about hands being tied and pushed into the deep end, implies that you’re feelings are tying your hands and you can’t stop the way you’re acting or feeling, as you can’t stop yourself from drowning when you’re in deep water with your hands tied.

The next line is self explanatory. The person is trying to pacify or calm you maybe, saying you’ll still be friends, whatever, but is really doesn’t mean anything.

I lovelove the last line in this verse. “My mouth is filled with blood from trying not to speak.” I’m pretty sure this is saying he is not speaking, keeping his feelings inside, and not explaining them or telling anyone about them for whatever necessary reasons. This is causing him extreme pain, as if he is bleeding inside, and this pain is filling him. If you use blood as a symbol of pain, which many artists do, the blood is physically filling him and his mouth. Not speaking or telling is basically completely filling him with this agony.

I love this song and this is one of my favorite versus lyrically ever. I think Mark Hoppus is an amazing lyricist.

Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics 18 years ago
This songs is one of those songs that screams every "horrible and forbidden" thought that hurt people wish they could say without being thought insane. It says the things people wish would be okay to say, but they're nto accepted, so someone liek Brand New has to say it of rthem, and that's great.
I relate to this song so much, I had a guy best friend for 10 years, since I was 4 years old, he was th equivalent of my brother. I changed, and we grew apart and in the end he essentially slapped me in the face.
I think about him every single day, beacuse you never get over something like that, and it's been almost a year. This song is so calming to listen to, because being hurt by someone you love is intense, ad your anger is intense. Hearing someone express your anger when you feel you can't find the words is amazing, and I love Brand New for that.

If you like this song as much as I do, check out Fall Out Boy's "Take This To Your Grave" Album, it has the asme backdrop theme, and is a really powerful album. Especailly "Tell That Mick..." and "Sending Postcards from a Plane Crash".

Brand New is amazing.

Fall Out Boy – Sending Postcards from a Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here) Lyrics 18 years ago
I think code_azul is onto something in the deeper meaning of the lyrics. "I'm always the last to know."
implies that he wa sleft in the dark about the relationship between friend and morethanfriend because they didn't want him angry or hurt, but they did it anway. I REALLY relate to the anger that is portrayed into this song after that explanation.

I think he is directing "Thank your lucky stars that everything I wish for will never come true." to the friend and maybe the girl becuase of allt eh horrible things he is hoping on them.
"Every friend we ever had in common, I will sever the ties." definetely is at the friend, talking about how he will forget him and that he existed because he was never a true friend. The same thing with the next line "when you go, I willl forget everything about you." This is saying the friend now means ntohing to him, he is less than nothing, he will forget every detail about him.

It's an extremely hateful song, he's very angry adn I totally relate. People who have no been betrayed in such a way liek this say how increidbly hateful they must be a scary person, but the truth is these lyrics put things the way many people wish they could find the words for.

The Almost – Say This Sooner Lyrics 18 years ago
I think many songs can be interpreted in a few different ways, this being one of them.

"I can't believe I didn't say this sooner. I'll just believe that I was all displaced. I'll get to speaking, and let you know how I feel."

(I tihnk he may be talking about someone who he may really really care about, but they are unaware of his feelings. He regrets not mentioning it sooner. He's telling himself he had a reason not to, he tells himself that he was displaced and trying to figure things out. He then says in an almost 'I'm lying but I'll be convincing" way, that he'll get to speaking, get to telling them how he feels... sometime. This is the part that I really connect with the most.

He then says "I'll get to acting, make you all believe me."
(I think tihs is again referring to how he is pretending to be unemotional or somewaht detached, or covers his feelings, the same thing with the next line about faking.)

"No one will ever see things the way I do, no one will try. All my friends think I'm gone, but I swear I'm not."
(I think he's trying to sort of explain or justify his fake behavoir. He's saying that even if he tried explaining his emotions, no one would see it like him because no one cares for this person like him. He's saying his friends would think him crazy or a lost cause, but he's not.)

I really love this song lyrically. It's fairly straightforward and allows you to connect with it, while preserving that cryptic aspect we all seem to love so much in punk rock music.

Oh, and I also think the line "True romance is dead, I shot it in the chest and in the head." is more than coincidental. I think chest refers to the emotional part of love, your heart, and then the mental part, your head. So destorying all aspects of the concept of romance.

I really love this song. I'm usually very good at interpreting the lyrics of the music I listen to, becaues I relate so much to it. I think I have an idea, but does anyone have any ideas about what

"Take back the beat in your heart.
Why fight when you can't be bought?"

really means, because it sounds like an amazing line, but I'm not sure how to take it.

The Academy Is... – Almost Here Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is one of my top favorite TAI songs ever, on both albums.
My favorite line by them ever, is "My old friends have been dropping like houseflies. The smoking gun still sits in my pocket and I know how to use it."

This line to me, is about cutting ties. When old friends betray you, you end it. It's over and they're gone. Saying "My old friends have been dropping like houseflies, the smoking gun still sits in my pocket..." is like saying, 'I won't deal with this ridiculous circle anymore, I'm not going to put up with it, I won't let the fact that we've been friends for a long time stand in my way. It's over and done. You are dead to me, and I've made you dead to me, and all the poeple I used to know."
The next part "I know how to use it." Is like a bitter warning. It's like an "I've been here before, I know how to deal with people I used to know. I have no problems ending all relationships of backstabbers. Take my old friends as other examples, this is your only warning."

This song got me through a really hard time when I had to do what the lead singer did with poeple I'd known and cared for for a very long time. The way he puts it is in the perfectly hateful, 'I am finished, and know it.' kind of way. I have so much respect for William Beckkett.

"Dream of demons while you sleep that make you stutter when you speak."

I think this is an amazing line, someone who posted earlier I think had it.
I think it means you dream of demons while you sleep, like the painful things in life or scary things in this case come out in your dreams, nightmares. The horrors you won't face in real life.
These dreams, or nightmares, become kind of blurry again in real life. Even though the nightmares you are having are about real life situations, when you wake up you won't face them again.
This leaves a sort of residue in your head, that something is very wrong and you've contemplated it before, maybe in your dreams.
However, you're nto sure enough of this to stop everything and change something, so just this faint memory kind of pushes its way in every onces in a while and makes you stutter your speech, kind of like when you remember tidbits of a dream, but not everything. And then the memory is gone, and you're like "whatever".

I've forgiven death.
I am indifferent yet (I'm a sorrow wreck),
I'm every cliche, but I simply do it best.

(I think here they are talking about how when you get to an intense point of too much sadness, like a lot of death, you become indifferent, because you don't want to handle any more pain. Saying I've forgiven death may imply that after hating it all the times it's happened, there's just no more hatred, and you don't hate it anymore, you forgive it. You could apply that to any sort of pain. I think the cliche line refers to the frusration at trying to get out your emotion but the only words that describe them are ridiculously tacky and cliche from being said so many times.)

Because they've got me in a band where I've never seen a heart I couldn't break.
It was never about the songs, it was competition,
Make the biggest scene, make the biggest...
Which came first, the music or the misery?

(I think the line about the competition and scene may be a shot at the general music scene, where people have been forgetting about music, and focusing on competing with other bands for attention.)
(I think the firs tand last line of this stanza are very interesting. Saying he's never seen a heart his band couldn't break, is almost like saying their music breaks hearts with the pain it expresses. I think the last line echoes this, asking if people come to the painfilled music because they are in pain, or does the music cause them pain - which came first, the music or the misery?)

I went to sleep a poet, and I woke up a fraud,

(I think this line might echo Pete's frustration said in the cliche line. He used to think the way he expresses his feelings was unique and poetic and he had an outlet for them, but when he turned around, everything he said was being said by everyone else, adn he's another cliche, or fraud, a copier.)

5thgair, I think your view on the chapel line is really interesting, but I'm nto sure I agree.

I agree with the idea that this song is about Pete's drug OD, but I think the line "I love you in the same way there's a chapel in a hospital." means something more like this.
A chapel is placed in a hospital for what purpose? So that the family and friends of those dying or very sick can pray for them. It's definete that the non-religious or even atheist, in times of extreme desperation, such as a dying friend, will resort to prayer. There is a chapel in a hospital for the desperate to use their last resort. Chapels are in hospitals as a 'recognize the existence of a God only when you need there to be a God' kind of thing.

So if a chapel in a hospital is equivalent to a there when yo uneed it thing, then saying "i love you in the same way there's a chapel in a hopsital" is like saying "I love you when I need to love someone, or I need something to love." In this case, his drugs.

Fall Out Boy – Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying (Do Your Part to Save the Scene and Stop Going to Shows) Lyrics 18 years ago
I know that this song is aimed at people who take things to seriously and stuff, but I don't think it's a direct shot at the scene or the people who listen to it.
I read in the absolutepunk.net interview with Pete Wentz that they love the Punk scene and their fans. The reason they left heavy metal and came to punk was because of the scene. Check out the interview, it's interesting.
