I agree that it has to do with his survival of cancer, but I believe it also carries meaning for anyone who is struggling with something that occurred in their own past. It has a hopeful sound to it, though, giving the feeling that whatever the problem is, it will improve and get better. And it may be holding you down, but you can get up and release it. |

I agree with the two above. It is about his cancer and how he struggled. But I also think this song shows how he stayed strong (that sounds corny but I'm serious) and fought his way through. He describes himself as being a "slave to the wires" and I think this is talking about how he was out of touch with family and home and such while on tour. So he has to rely on phone calls to bring him back. I'm not entirely sure that's right, but it's what I feel when I hear the song. |

it's crazy, but it's almost like this song was written for everyone. i was looking through some of these comments and most people keep saying how this song reminds them of someone they know. and i have to say the same. except the person im taking about is a girl who had this disgusting red hair and she completely tried to destroy things for me. when i first heard this song i thought it was so ironic.
it's true this is probably my least favorite song of theirs, but it's still a great song because look at how many of you can relate to it. this band can get a good message through anything. |

i absolutely love piano rock. and this song kicks ass. it reminds me of how i feel about somebody. and how im locked up, because i can never tell him how i feel. i know that sounds so lame, but it's amazing what his music does to you. |
