Cellular Phone Lyrics

I have become increasingly
Overwhelmed but not discouraged
And soon I'll leave the infirmary
Feeling well
But lacking courage
Courage
And now the rockets fly above
Passing over
Cape Canaveral
There's the woman with the drugs
In the café
By the launch pad
By the launch pad

And she is 'gonna
Ring me up
On my Cellular Phone
So I know I'm not alone
In a world full of vampires
Come on darling
Talk me down
On that Cellular Phone
Because I can't get home
I'm a slave to the wires
I've done this before
I will do it more

I have become increasingly
Overwhelmed when
I'm in public
I'm not so patient when they stare
There's a fighter
Somewhere underneath this skin and bones
And do you know what I mean?
What I mean when I say that this girl
Has got a thing for my machine

And she is 'gonna
Ring me up
On my Cellular Phone
So I know I'm not a lone
In a world full of Vampires
Come on darling
Talk me down
On that cellular phone
Because I can't get home
I'm a slave to the wires
I've done this before
I've done this before

But I have given everything and more
Sometimes convinced I have the world to carry
Every day is war
And rockets fly from dusk 'til dawn
I won't be shaken
If ever there's a time
Where I am gone just know I'm waiting
For you to ring
For you to ring...

Me up on my Cellular Phone
So I know I'm not alone
In a world full of vampires
Come on darling
Talk me down
On that Cellular Phone
Because I can't get home
I'm a slave to the wires
I've done this before
I will do it more

Which version are these lyrics from? I think these are the lyrics for the version that I got off iTunes, which is from In Valleys- EP: I have become increasingly Overwhelmed but not discouraged And soon I'll leave the infirmary Feeling well but Lacking courage Courage

And now the rockets fly above Passing over Cape Canaveral There's the woman with the drugs In the cafe By the launch pad By the launch pad

And she's gonna ring me up On my cellular phone So I know I'm not alone In a world full of vampires Come on honey Talk me down On that cellular phone Because I can't get home I'm a slave to the wires I've done this before I can do it more

I have become increasingly Overwhelmed when I'm in public I'm not so patient when they stare There's a fighter Somewhere underneath this skin and bones And do you know what I mean? What I mean when I say that this girl Has got a thing for my machine?

And she is gonna ring me up On my cellular phone So I know I'm not alone In a world full of vampires Come on, honey Talk me down On that cellular phone Because I can't get home I'm a slave to the wires I've done this before I've done this before

But I have given everything and more Sometimes convinced I have the world to carry Every day is war And rockets drop from dusk 'til dawn I won't be shaken And should they take me in the night Don't think my signal's fading For you For you to ring For you to ring

Me up on my cellular phone So I know I'm not alone In a world full of vampires Come on honey Talk me down On that cellular phone Because I can't get home I'm a slave to the wires

Oh, come on darling Ring me up on my cellular phone So I know I'm not alone In a world full of vampires Come on darling Talk me down On that cellular phone Because I can't get home I'm a slave to the wires I've done this before I can do it more

Well I think this one's pretty obvious. It's about his struggle with cancer; the difficulty of getting up everyday and fighting and how those he loves (his wife in particular) can help him through it by showing their support (through phone calls, etc. when he was in the hospital). I love the lines "I have become increasingly/ Overwhelmed when I'm in public/ I'm not so patient when they stare/ There's a fighter/ Somewhere underneath this skin and bones" and "Sometimes convinced I have the world to carry/ Everyday is war/ And rockets fly from dusk 'til dawn/ I won't be shaken."

this was written before he had cancer (like the album everything in transit). its not that new a song. I love this song and i agree i thought it was about cancer as well before i found out it was pre-cancer. I think its about being on tour and feeling disconnected from home and his wife. I think the way he describes feeling (overwhelmed, shaken ect) is about the way he felt on tour with something corporate

I agree with the two above. It is about his cancer and how he struggled. But I also think this song shows how he stayed strong (that sounds corny but I'm serious) and fought his way through. He describes himself as being a "slave to the wires" and I think this is talking about how he was out of touch with family and home and such while on tour. So he has to rely on phone calls to bring him back. I'm not entirely sure that's right, but it's what I feel when I hear the song.

I think there could be several meanings to this. I've heard it was written before he had cancer, which makes it really eerie.. It could be about how he felt on tour... However, I also think it would fit for a crazy and/or extremely paranoid person, probably in a mental institution. He talks about the infirmary, wires, the woman with the drugs, etc..

"So I know I'm not a lone In a world full of Vampires"

that's a reference to all the nurses who used to come and take blood

i thought it was written post cancer....then i heard it was pre cancer. then i read the alternative press interview with him and it's post cancer. sweet song! cant wait to hear the recorded version on the new album.
