I wish I could try to put out a new interpretation.. But I just don't know.. But I DO know that this is a great song. Certainly one of my favorite from Sparklehorse..
I do agree that this song seems to be sad and happy in ways at the same time. Hard to explain why, though.. The way "we're gonna go back home one day" seems to be incredibly sad and happy at the same time =S |

I'm pretty certain that he did not really cut himself. I've heard a handful of people from the show itself claim that he didn't do it, but at the time people thought it was all a legit act. I guess that's why some of the people in the audience shouted out and why there was a mood change. But yeah, after a while it was clear that he didn't really do it. |

This song is absolutely amazing. Looks like the upcoming album is going to be traditional Modest Mouse material, if you will. It's amazing how each album sounds so different than the last, yet still somehow retains certain elements that aren't completely noticeable at first glance, if that makes sense.
For what it's worth, I have to say.. These guys really outdid themselves |

| Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics

Elliott Smith already said what he wrote this song about. He wrote it about a specific girl. He said writing songs about specific things is something he rarely does.. And that he loved her a lot. It's a beautiful song.. And to me, it's incredibly optimistic. It makes me think about a bright and happy future.. This may not be what he intended, but it's what I got from it..
I always wanted to get a tattoo that pays tribute to Elliott Smith. I think it's deserved for all the devotion I've given his music mentally, and how I really think it's shaped a part of who I am. Finally, I decided. I got "Say Yes" on me.
It's a great tribute, as he said it was one of his favorite songs he'd done. It was his last original song performed live before his suicide... And it just means a whole lot to me, personally. |

Thank you so much for submitting these lyrics... I've literally waited fucking years to find them.. I just never could!
Anyway.. This song says so little.. But it leaves room for an incredibly large amount of personal interpretation.. I can't really say much of what I think it is, because chances are most people are dead set on in meaning whatever they already think it means..
Great song. |

This is one of Bloc Party's better songs, I think..
I honestly find this to be such a sad and depressing song. That line "Linus put that blanket down, the world wont wait" really sends that shiver down my back every time I hear it.
And I have to say, the voice at the last verse "so you wanna be a boxer..." ect, is just amazing. |

I can see some points being odd.. But she already admited in an interview it is not Kurt. She also said it isn't anything to do with herself, but it's about someone that killed themself... She being a big fan of Elliott, there's solide reason to believe.... I've heard other reasons as to why people would think it's him, but I've forgotten. I guess I can't hold much of a valid argument. To each their own, that be the beauty in music... Eh. |

This song... Hm.. To me it means something in terms of drugs. As aforementioned in another comment, it's "trippy".. But that's now a cliched term.. It's something other than that.. I just think it has some connection with being under the influence of substances... The "everyone saying different things to me" line.. When stuff gets really intense, sometimes I feel like that. Meh, this is just a personal interpretation and means nothing likely. |

Get yo' heads straight. It isn't about Kurt, it's been stated in an interview. Try American singer/songwriter Elliott Smith. |
