It's about germany being bombed in world war 2. The bit about bread worth more than pure gold came from when they printed money like it was going out of fashion and it cost a wheelbarrow full of money to buy bread. They printed so much money it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.

Suicide? After reading Mirandah's post, and then going back over it, perhaps the girl hates herself (she's sleeping with the one she hates) and wants to be done with it. "and tonight they celebrate" could mean that the person she is and the person who she hates will finally part???

Drawing down the moon is a term used in witch craft, it's a feminine spell as the moon is classed as female, I'm assuming it's to give the Female doing the ritual power from a female object??? . I can't remember what the spell entails, I asked a wiccan friend years ago and she told me.
