| Travis – Closer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I saw a Fran Healy solo show the other night, where he talked about the meanings behind some of the songs. Closer, he said, was written to express that thing that happens between people, couples that have been together for a while and start to lose that spark, and that need to just put that extra effort into the relationship, appreciating the other person and just falling back in love with them. | |

I wonder if anyone has the original lyrics to this song. I have the CD insert somewheres, but I'm really curious about the intended punctuation of these lyrics. Sounds strange, but the different punctuation can completely change the meaning of the song. I wonder if it is meant to be read as: It's how it's always been; When you're older you will understand or It's how it's always been: When you're older you will understand The first makes it sound like sincere advice that he is sharing - the world is full of uncertainty and disloyalty and you will understand when you're older. The second, however, could be more sarcastic. Often, people underestimate youth and their ability to do things and understand life. He has experienced this condescending belief, he has been underestimated and told that "When you're older, you will understand" because when you're young you can't possibly understand. Just a thought that occured to me when listening to the song. |

I'm a little confused by this one. It sounds like a young, empowered couple who just want to be with each other and change the world and not care what other people think about them. They want to defy the odds: "Everytime they look at us we'll blow their minds" The part that confuses me is "True love might escape us girl, but at least we got some heart" To me, that's saying that as hard as they try to be, they are not in love. So, this makes me think that this song is actually about friends. They've had it with their lives, they want something new and better. "Let's forget about all our friends and family Let's forget about all our lovers, enemies Let's go out when the sun goes down Let's wrestle this city to the ground" They want to leave behind everything and start fresh, the two of them. |

Hmm, these comments are all very interesting, things I had never even considered about the lyrics. Although that's the wonderful thing about song lyrics, right, that they can be interpreted so differently by different people, and can provide comfort and relevance to such a wide audience. I've always sort of focused on the opening of the song: "when they call your name will you walk right up with a smile on your face will you cower in fear in your favorite sweater with an old love letter?" I think it's about life in general. "They" is indefinite, it's life, its "them" as referred to in Elizabethtown. When life calls to you, a new opportunity, change, growth. Are you going to "Walk right up with a smile on your face"? Are you going to accept the challenge, strive? Or are you going to "Cower in fear"? Hold on to the old, the past? I see the "favorite sweater" symbolising comfort, and an old love letter symbolizing the past. Put it all together, and you get: When life changes, when a new opportunity is handed to you (...) how are you going to handle it? Are you going to accept it, do your best, "Walk right up with a smile on your face"? Or, are you going to stay in your comfort zone, in the familiar, in the old, and hang on to the past? It's beautiful |

| Wow, that's amazing wisdom. This song isn't my favourite from the new album, but the lyrics amaze me. They're so true. | |
| The Fray – Say When Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm intrigued by car12meek's lyric interpretation: that it may actually be "maybe god can be on both sides of the gun". It would change things, and it really makes me wonder... | |
| The Fray – Say When Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I agree, it gets to me every time. I'm liking the whold CD, but this one has definitely stood out for me. | |
| Daniel Wesley – Ooo ohh Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Ummm... I really doubt that. It doesn't sound at all like backgammon, and that does not fit into the lyrics at all. Maybe he was just joking around. | |
| The Kinks – This Time Tomorrow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Ok, so I am one of "those" people who first heard this song on the Darjeeling Limited. I think it's fantastic. I've posted this on a few other songs, but I think I might use this in a grad video montage. I think the message of the lyrics would fit into a grad theme, and the song is just mellow enought, it's perfect, I think. I really think this is the song I will use. | |
| The Fray – Syndicate Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song is playing on their website right now, thefray.net it sounds great. I'm a little puzzled as to the meaning of the "syndicate"... Monday's syndicate means everyone's the same... Syndicate: a group of individuals or organizations combined or making a joint effort to undertake some specific duty or carry out specific transactions or negotiations Maybe it means that together they're gonna work together to fix the problem in their relationship. Both of them are equal, both of them have the same responsibility to the relationship, each other, and themselves. I don't know, what does else could it mean? |

| David Gray – As I'm Leaving Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'm thinking about using this song for a video montage for a high school graduation. I have a few other songs im considering, like Chocolate by Snow Patrol. I might use more than one. I thought this one might be appropriate, not just because of the lyrics but the song itself, I think it can make everyone feel very reflective... | |
| Snow Patrol – Chocolate Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I kinda wanna use this song for my high school graduation montage video. I know, it doesnt really come across as a graduation song, but there are some lyrics that sorta fit, and I think the beat would be perfect for the mood I wanna set. | |

Oooh, just wait, I found this: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/music/news/e3i728e28adf80ba3aaea2254e658ba2cf0 NEW YORK -- The Fray has unveiled the track list for its self-titled sophomore album, arriving Feb. 3 from Epic. Lead single "You Found Me" has already sold 278,000 copies in three weeks of U.S. digital release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That track stemmed from crises among friends and family that prompted singer Isaac Slade to confront the age-old question of why bad things happen to good people. Another song, "Enough for Now," tackles the fallout from the death of Slade's grandfather. The sound of "The Fray" -- produced like the debut by Epic vp A&R Mike Flynn and Aaron Johnson -- is "a little more extreme than the last record," Slade tells Billboard. "The quieter stuff is a little quieter than our last record and the rock stuff is a little rockier. It definitely spreads the spectrum a little bit." The new album will be previewed with a handful of club dates early next year, beginning Jan. 6 in the Fray's Denver hometown and wrapping Feb. 4 in New York. The latter show will be cybercast on the band's Web site. The Fray is also playing a free outdoor show Wednesday in Los Angeles as part of "Jimmy Kimmel Live." An extensive North American tour is likely to begin in June. The new album is the follow-up to 2005's "How To Save a Life," which has sold 2.34 million copies in the U.S. Here is the track list for "The Fray": "Syndicate" "Absolute" "You Found Me" "Say When" "Never Say Never" "Where the Story Ends" "Enough for Now" "Ungodly Hour" "We Build Then We Break" "Happiness" |

"The disappointment was electric, But you don't know it because you've never been in love." Wow. That line is so intense. |

| The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I am totally in love with this song, and from the sounds of it, the new album will be fantastic, I can't wait for it. I saw the video today, and it was great. Isaac is amazing. | |

| OMG I just downloaded this today, for free. Never heard of him before, but he sounds pretty decent. Maybe I'll help you upload some of his other songs for that free CD, Oh My. | |
| Pascale Picard – Smilin' Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song feels like my life. When you have so many things going on in your life, so many pressures that it overwhelms you and you just feel like you're going to fall apart over the weight of it all. Specifically for me, it relates to school and everything else around it. When you struggle with the things in your life, you start to envy the time when life was so simple. You just want that little girl, with no cares in the world, who is happy for no reason, to realize how good she has it and you want her to hold on to it because so often we don't even realize how good we have it until it's gone. | |
| Raine Maida – Yellow Brick Road Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
bmicona, yeah it is backwards. It sort of tricks you for a minute, because you expect it to be knew then what i know now, but it's reversed. I think it's about reminiscing about youth, about being young, naive, but full of potential. Back then, he savoured life, didn't care about things like money, appearanc, etc. But now he's caught up in a busy life, and he's thinking, if he lived like he did when was younger, he would slow things down, savour and appreciate them more, truly enjoy life. At first, I though it was rise up, but wise up makes more sense. Raine is an acivist, he's sending the message to wise up, become more aware, not only about world events, but about your own life, don't waste it. |

| Rascal Flatts – He Ain't the Leavin' Kind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Well before I actually read the lyrics, especially the capital He, I had a completely different interpretation. I thought the song was something about a father who'd past away, and the mother was resentful about that, was mad at him for dying. But then she realized that he wasn't the leaving kind, and he was always with her and her kids. But, now that I see the real lyrics and everything, I see that it's actually about God, which makes a lot of sense now, haha. |

| Rascal Flatts – Yes I Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with the marriage theory, in a way. I think it's about a couple, who should've been getting married. But they realised that their relationship wasn't right, they weren't meant to be together, so they broke up. He still misses her though, still cares for her, but knows it's over. He still prays that it might change betweeen them. Instead of saying I do at the alter, he's now having to say it in a different context. | |
| James Blunt – Shine On Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Mmm, this song is so beautiful. I just love the way he sings "eyes." This song is so fragile at times, it's so beautiful. | |
| The Killers – Somebody Told Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure that he's not saying that the "boyfriend" is actually a female, that the two are lesbian. He's making fun off the girl's boyfriend (male, I believe), because he and the girl used to be together, she broke up with him and he wants to make her regret her decision. "Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this" They are all living sinful lives. "Ready? Let's roll onto something new Taking its toll and I'm leaving without you" He's moving on, going to find a new girl. He's not looking for anything serious, just a physical relationship, by the way he so casually says roll onto something new. "Pace yourself from me" Again, he's making her feel bad for leaving him and is letting her know that he's hard to get over. Basically, he wanted her, they met, were sleeping together, she stopped sleeping with him and started sleeping with someone else, he found out by someone else (a rumour), he realises there was more than sex to them, he tries to make her see what she's missing and starts insulting her current guy, he tries to move on, find someone else to sleep with, to ease the pain of the lonely nights without her. What sinful lives we lead. |

| I love this song. I used it as part of a slidshow for a retiring teacher, and it was so perfect. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Imagine (John Lennon cover) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is on Instant Karma, the campaign for Darfur. I am probably a terrible person for never hearing John Lennon actually sing it, but I thought Avril did a fantastic job with it. It didn't sound like her, it was so great. I loved it. | |
| Ingrid Michaelson – Keep Breathing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The first verses are so...true People are dying, I close my blinds I want to change the world, instead I sleep. They describe our society so well. We may mean well, we want to do good things, fix problems, but don't have the motivation, the drive to actually fix them, and it's easier to just ignore it. We believe that we have such little impact on the world, really the only thing we can do is breathe, stay alive. |
|
| Fleetwood Mac – Dreams Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is such a beautiful song, Stevie's voice sounds so sweet and lovely here, compared to older songs (which I still love). You can tell she's younger here. | |
| Aerosmith – Dream On Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I really like this song. I feel like it's about time, how we waste it, we waste our lives, and by the time we figure that out and start to fix it, it's over. The sing part just means to enjoy the moment, because you never know when your life will be over. It's funny, cause when I first heard this song, I thought it was "sing women" instead of "Sing with me". |

| Ryan Adams – Ah, Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Hmm I want to hear this song. It looks like a typical Ryan Adams. | |
| Avril Lavigne – Innocence Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| A twist from Avril's other two albums. This, and the other songs on this album are HAPPY! You can tell she's at a great point in her life with Derek, and she's just trying to express that in this song. | |
| Ryan Adams – Words Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is so beautiful. Ryan sings it so tenderly and gently you almost have to strain to hear the words, but it's perfect. Some parts don't seem to make sense when you read them, but he makes them work, makes you understand somehow. It's great. | |
| The Fray – Without Reason Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"You want to work to spend to show. You want to talk to smile to feel. You want to run to thirst to drink. You want to love to know it's real." Hmmm, this really sums up our lives, doesn't it. These words are so profound to me. |

| The Fray – Heaven Forbid Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Words cannot express how much this song means to me, how much I love it. I got the CD during christmas break, when I was really sad and lonely. I played this song over and over. Initially, I took the lyrics literally. I related to them. Someone has been alone all their life and wants someone, wants happiness and love and all that good stuff, but doesn't expect they will ever get that. I have never been in any relationship, and while I'm young, it still hurts to see so many other people happy, in love, with someone and knowing that I'm alone. This song makes me sad and happy at the same time. The lyrics can offer hope, and even became sort of a mantra for me "hold on tight, wait for tommorrow, you'll be alright." But at the same time, "don't know how to get you out of this one" proves that no one can do this for you, you have to help yourself. Once I read other people's comments, I noticed that the lyrics could be slightly sarcastic, reflecting someone who gives themself away too easily because they fear being alone. "It feels good, is that reason enough for you?" The person feels good about themself at the time, but it's not a permanent feeling, and when they finish with a meaningless relationship, they go back to feeling bad. This song is great because different people can relate to it. Personally, I relate to the first version I gave. This song makes me feel better. I heard Joe wrote it for his sister. |

| The Fray – Together Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
We will live to see many days... an unconventional love song, if such a thing exists. It's a really edgy song, not particularly deep or meaningful, but good all the same. The lyrics are about two people who love each other and believe that they will be together forever. Whether that is true or not doesn't matter, because it's how they feel now, in the present. Funny that the words all say forever, but it's about the present. They're together now, and they hope to be together forever, but it doesn't really matter if they are or not. |
|
| Ryan Adams – Let It Ride Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love this song, especially the last stanza. "I wanna see you tonight Dancing in the endless moonlight In the parking lot, in the headlights of cars Someplace over the moon Where they moved the drive-in theater Where I left the car that I can't find that I still got the keys to" something about those words just gets to me, and I love them. |
|
| Ryan Adams – So Alive Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is my favourite Ryan Adams song. It's so...alive! This song has so much energy to it, and it's just full of life. It makes me happy, instead of my usual "sad" songs. | |
| The Fray – Oceans Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I can listen to this song all the time. Wow. "I miss the words I love, the words you did not say". It seems that there were some commitment issues in this relationship, but the "kiss you never gave away" makes it seem like there was never much to the relationship to start with. "I take it all in a box and make my way down to the shore, Throw it in and begin to leave it to the waves." This reminds me of people's ashes after cremation, throwing it to the sea. The relationship is already dead, and it's time to move on. |
