Words Lyrics

If everything you want is something you couldn't have
Go outside a while, look up and count the clouds
Can you draw a picture of the backyard of the house
You grew up in, can you remember how it smelled?

Don't worry up your mind
People are sick and mean sometimes
They're only words
They're only words

If everybody is grateful, how come nobody's satisfied
If a tree falls in the woods and there ain't no one around
If you heard it you could go over and whittle out a wishing box
You could write her name on something and put it inside

Don't worry up your mind
People are sick and mean sometimes
Don't worry up your mind
They're only words
Its only words
Its only words

Cover art for Words lyrics by Ryan Adams

This song is so beautiful. Ryan sings it so tenderly and gently you almost have to strain to hear the words, but it's perfect. Some parts don't seem to make sense when you read them, but he makes them work, makes you understand somehow. It's great.

I've been a fan of Ryan's for a while, and I just recently stumbled upon this song, and I think this song is brilliant. The lyrics are simple, but the way Ryan sings them brings them to life.

This is a great song off the second Elizabethtown Soundtrack. Ryan Adams wrote and performed this song for Camerone Crowe who directed Elizabethtown. A note on this song is Ryan Adams has always listed Nick Drake as an influence, and I think this song might be the closest Ryan Adams' style has been to Nick Drake.
