Bon Iver – 715 - CR∑∑KS Lyrics 6 years ago
A pure outpouring of passion. It feels like its about regret. Or a situation that even he could not control, but it's too late. One last cry, "Turn around now, you're my A-team." Too beautiful for words, really.

@[Mo:29276] Ohless Alan Sparhawk's guitar tone alone will make them go deaf. Pun intended.

Beach House – Pay No Mind Lyrics 7 years ago
This song feels like recovery. Both a recovery from pain, and also from the callousness created in the aftermath. In a way, heartbreak sometimes feels like it will shield us from being hurt again. And sometimes we yearn for that to the point that we put up walls. But there will always be always a crack, no matter how small, for feelings to seep through again.

I'm so glad they still play this one live. It's one of my favorite ones to hear, they groove it so nice.

311 – Guns (Are for Pussies) Lyrics 8 years ago
One should never take 311's lyrics TOO seriously, or else you're missing the point of the music.

"You guys think you're hard, but you're in fear of getting harmed"

It's about fear, paranoia and building a wall around yourself. I think in 1995, this song was more geared towards gang and street violence (I'm not implying race here to be clear), and less about self-defense via open-carry. But let's face it, they don't play it at all anymore because of how intense the gun situation has become in America. Interesting, to say the least.

Another one of 311's narration on the preciousness of time and the need to let go of things that weigh you down. This song really grew on me.

Real Estate – Past Lives Lyrics 8 years ago
The feeling of nostalgia is embedded in this lush song. It hits so nice. Always reminds me of when I first heard it, hanging out in my friends backyard on a summer day.

Low – Plastic Cup Lyrics 9 years ago
Another beautiful, beautiful song from Low. Short and sweet, this song croons with a stark commentary on the nature of time and mortality, peppered with small questions and moments that test this idea of how time is related to human existence.

What I don't really have an interpretation for is the last line of the song, which really hits a soft spot for me, as Low tends to do over and over again. I suppose it just sort of wraps it all up with a lovely flavor of bittersweet insincerity. It's kind of like, yea so what if things exist long after we're gone?

Wilco – Walken Lyrics 9 years ago
Here's a mighty good example of how a lot of times lyrics are just another musical element for Tweedy. The lyrics' meaning has a lot less importance to him as a songwriter than the way it all sounds. There's not much to analyze here. Just a bad ass song.

Wilco – Where Do I Begin Lyrics 10 years ago
"Star Wars" will probably be my most listened album of the year. I love the flow, track after track. "Where Do I Begin" comes into view, and it's a heart-wrenching experience to say the least. At first listen, it does appear to be addressing the frustrations of relationships. You never know how the other person really feels, maybe you don't even know how YOU feel, and the narrator seems to eventually want to end it so that he can feel like himself again.

But on the other hand, I like to see this song as a conversation with oneself. It's about coming to terms with letting go of your mistakes and regrets, and beginning a new journey. I think the beautiful, wordless outro to this track highlights that notion. It sounds like the theme of standing up, getting on your feet and waving a bittersweet goodbye to your regret-filled past.

Meshuggah – I Am Colossus Lyrics 10 years ago
I like to imagine that "I Am Colossus" is about the human Ego.

"I am life. I'm death. You empower me."
"I am life. I am death. You belong to me"

This track speaks to me of something massively intangible, yet omniscient. It sounds as if Jens is narrating the Ego, as it mocks the Soul. It's telling you that you can't escape Suffering. The Ego is so big that you can't see it or tell that it exists, which is described by "Colossus". I also think that aspect is represented by the music itself. Absolutely crushing.
I'm not trying to persuade anyone into thinking that this is DEFINITELY what it is about. It's just a thought that blows my mind when I listen to this song.

Dredg – Bug Eyes Lyrics 10 years ago
@[BlindJester:1580] Yeah cheers man, nailed it.

"It's been ten years strong, that's much too long...
Time to do something good for myself."

I remember literally tearing up live during the part when the guitars come back in after that break. So powerful. Miss this band!!

Low – Tonight Lyrics 11 years ago
This is one of my favorite Low songs. So chill, yet brooding, like a prologue to a very important moment. The song's simplicity lends itself to a vast possibility of meanings, but I'd like to use it to describe a situation we might all find ourselves in. There's somebody that you have strong feelings for, and the days go by until one night there's a social gathering that you know she/he will be at. You have it all planned out in your head, the things you'll say, the timing of your words once and for all. But then you find yourself too nervous or too hesitant to make a move, and the night ends, unfulfilled. It's always up until when the opportunity is right in our faces that we pass time thinking about the past and analyzing all of our memories, shaping them to how we want.

Low – When I Go Deaf Lyrics 13 years ago
It's sort of a love song to me, but with a tinge of raw cynicism.
Going deaf would be f*cking terrible, but not as terrible as not having the person he's talkin about. If something bad happens to you, then whatever, you deal with it and embrace the things you still have. But the song is to be felt, not understood.

I always thought it was "I'm coming out of old age". That line alone blew my mind. I'll just pretend that's what he's still saying.

Fang Island – Daisy Lyrics 14 years ago
Not like I needed to know what the lyrics were, or had any expectation that there were even words even being said, but the simplistic truth in them ties together with the song so well. Best song ever

Sick beat, refreshing to hear by this band. I personally enjoy this insincere but awesome sounding tune. It doesn't "mean" anything, it just sounds awesome. Especially with headphones on.

Mogwai – Acid Food Lyrics 16 years ago
Hmmm...Maybe the song actually is about a storm that happened and the whole feeling of the song is based upon a relief to be alive and a kind of sorrow for the others that were seperated. The title "Acid Food" is such a creative phrase...but personally, it is a preferred track for an lsd trip. at least for me, it's like food for my ears.

311 – Galaxy Lyrics 18 years ago
There's a gap for another planet way back yeah maybe a mad man blew the shit out of it...... Think about it: The idea is that there used to be a planet there, but there was a civilization that couldnt handle itself, and blew it up, now it's history. Deep thought...
