I agree with the rear window lyrics. You can hear the D pretty clearly. It makes sense to me that Gaga would allude to Hitchcock... Her fall sequence in the Paparazzi video seemed to reference that iconic Vertigo image pretty directly. It also taps into the thriller/suspense/horror/etc. thing she has going on in this vid. I agree with butterflykiss84, too-- the rear window line is definitely a double entendre! |

I'm not sure I'm interpreting it right... But I think "you just made yourself available" isn't about making yourself single. It's about offering yourself. There's a sort of transference of responsibility/blame in which the speaker absolves this girl of her active involvement in what has happened or what they do. (Or maybe he is communicating what she's told him to believe?) Whether it's sincere is another matter. |

Just wanted to add that these lyrics are attributed to Rennie Sparks because this is a Handsome Family song (like "Tin Foil" on Fingerlings 3). This song is strikingly beautiful, full of brilliant darkness and swelling wonder. The vocal harmonies in Bird's version reflect (for me) the eerie comfort of that single, birdlike ring of the phone... Nora's voice creeps from a silvery echo into a strong reedy tension with Bird during the song's climax, making the sensed company/other fierce, corporeal, firmly benevolent.... And then it all falls away, and the seeds fall from the trees. In Bird's hands, I see it as a song that struggles with the melancholy of human solitude and the lurking wonder of the world, which we perceive briefly but powerfully and fail to grasp. God, it's great. Over the years, this has grown to be my favorite track on Weather Systems. |

| I'm not sure... I think the first line is more like "On our street, dirty scene/dirt is seen" or something. | |

| Just wanted to note, there's a small omission in these lyrics... It's "Quite a lot of friends *I have.*" | |

I can't understand all of the lyrics, but some of what I hear is different from the words above: Time's up, get on the way and be right now. Something's got me started, but I can't tune it out. It just took ten times to take what I've become, But it starts right now, and it's only just begun. Look out now to see fields and cricket bats Take [Tom's mouse] for the complaining cats This is all to see. The change I'm pretty confident about is "fields and cricket bats"-- it sounds fairly clear to me. The mouse thing... I'm not so sure. It sounds like it could be "time's" instead of Tom's, and the next word certainly sounds like "mouse" to me (which would fit with the cats), but could be mouths or something else entirely. The last line is probably wrong, too. If you listen carefully, it sounds like there's a another syllable in there (bettwen the "all" and "to" sounds... like a "just" or something). I tried out the last line as "This is odyssey" but it wouldn't work because of that half syllable I hear (which could, of course, be unusual echo). Such a difficult to decipher song. |
