A "vardøge" is a spirit that follows a person. Most commonly they announce your arrival before you actually get there. It's like when you hear someone enter a door, only to have them actually enter several minutes later. A more fitting translation would be: A spirit that walks in front of you varsler tid og lover bot (not quite sure how to translate this line, even in norwegian it's difficult to explain) Always warns of your arrival a trace of a summer that passed (may refer to a point in a lifetime, eg. late in life) The spirit knows where you will go Lets a "doorhammer" sound On a massive door that chips/splinters (it's not like it's breaking) Carving that you will be seen The second verse is more metaphorical, meaning that it won't actually interact with anything physical, but will "carve" your arrival into the minds of the people living there (through the sound of a "doorhammer" (pre-doorbell doorbell ;)) |
