| Neko Case – That Teenage Feeling Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think it's about that great feeling, when you've fallen in love, about how your past is sort of erased -- it becomes unimportant that you used to hold regrets. You're in love *now* and that's all that matters. The heart becomes 'green as wheats' again. But at the same time, the speaker isn't naive anymore, they know love might not be forever ('it's hard' with all the baggage from the past). That's why it's comforting to hear that it doesn't have to last forever, as long as it's as strong and wild as in the teenage years. |

| Neko Case – In California Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Another of my favourites, even if this "going to California/Other Big Place to make it as an artist" theme has never appealed to me at all. I like how she sings it -- sort of cutting she sounds short, and with that echo. She sounds exactly right, kind of sad and disillusioned but not totally desperate yet. "Palm trees are laughing at me" -- makes me smile, such lovely cynical mirth. |

| Neko Case – Stinging Velvet Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is one of my favourites. "Stinging velvet arms". A man's hairy, gentle arms :). I know those :D. It's a song where a woman is in the rain and remembers another rainy day, when she was crying over some injustice, shivering and cold, and found solace in the arms of her man. The swelling downstair 'furnace' would be either his... you know, or her... counterpart ;). Sounds like they had a really nice night. One of the sweetest lyrics I know, that avoid being tacky. The song certainly resonates with me and some of my memories :D. |

| Neko Case – I Wish I Was the Moon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love the line 'this is crazy'. I mean, when you feel like this, all cold and lonely and out of place, you still realise how utterly crazy it is to have those feelings. "Why me, why am I feeling like this, why not someone else. Life wasn't supposed to be like this. This is just crazy." | |
| Neko Case – Furnace Room Lullaby Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I somehow hear this as a song by a man. A man who has killed a woman -- a lover maybe? 'Take you' would mean sex, even rape. 'Throne on my chest' was where the woman was when it was still all consensual. But then he twisted her over and 'pushed her into the beams' -- of the bed I suppose, OR the floor boards, in the form of blood. The blood has seeped so deep into them. And he feels shocked and bad about what he did -- hearing her heartbeat in the silence of the night. |

| Neko Case – Hold On, Hold On Lyrics | 18 years ago |

The first two lines obviously refer to Neko's troubled family relations. Anyone not family is a 'stranger'. But the 'devil'... It almost sounds like it could be the 'valium', hence drugs. |

| Neko Case – I Missed The Point Lyrics | 18 years ago |

What exactly does go on in this song? I'm getting naughty ideas from "velvet holes gaping wide". What I don't understand is what "pageantry" could refer to. |
