"And she may rise, if I sing you down And she may wisely cling to the ground" someone questions this section. i think this part could mean.. damien could sing or say or feel these horrible feelings towards his ex (which i believe is who the song is written to, like a letter to her) so he is saying.. my current spouse would feel better, would rise above this all if i sang you down ('sang' obviously being in context of who he is, a singer/songwriter, it could be in any way, shape or form) but he knows that he has treated his current relationship badly.. he knows that he is writing this song, one of his best, to his past lover! he knows that he is not treating his new girlfriend right, he is too busy still thinking of 'the breeze' and his past relationship to really focus on this new one. and so he even states himself, i could do this for her, i could push out my ex for my new girlfriend. but she would be stupid to fall for this petty trick. i know i haven't treated her right and so she will not rise (like flying, when you're happy 'floating on air') she will cling to the ground and resist his charm. he even says she will do this 'wisely' as he knows she deserves better than this. he knows the only wise thing to do is for the current relationship to end 'got to stop' he must move on from 'the breeze' and his current situation. he must find 'someone else on top' i think the song is all about jealousy between two woman that damien loves equally. and he must choose which one. but he cannot. they both keep him 'pinned' and he tries to convince himself that he is better off alone, happier, more comfortable just being himself. 'You can't make me happy, quite as good as me' in life, love and even sexual pleasure, he can do it best for himself. but hey guys... 'you know that's a lie' :) |

| this song means everything to me. i think it really touches whom ever listens to it. it's very beautiful. it's about a relationship having ended and one half being too proud and scared to admit they miss the other. having loved someone so strongly and then to lose them, feels like the saddest thing in the world. and what better way to depict that than just to say it straight out? both halves realised they missed each other, still loved one another and once they reunite, nothing can make them lose each other again. because each has realised how sad it can be. i love it. | |

| i think this song just states exactly how hard it can be in a one-sided relationship. lisa sings hauntingly, it feels as though she truely means this when she sings it. i think it's about a relationship coming to an end, the one doing all the work realises that all they have ever done is tried, yet nothing is ever good enough. she would rather he left than sat there and wish he had gone. it is a heart-breaking song but can be related to by many. | |
