makes me think of 8th grade graduation and how we all said "goodnight" to each other, but we really meant goodbye and most of us havent spoken since cause we all went to different high schools. also, "the words dont match the story that our actions show" makes me think of all the "ill miss you!"s and "lets hang during summer!"s that we all wrote in each others yearbooks, but we havent. |

this is probably my favorite babyshambles song. for some odd reason it makes me think of pirates, but i guess pete is kinda like a modern day pirate. it makes me think of recovering and starting new but always having something reminding you of your past following behind you. |

i totally GET this song. im in love (at least i think i am) with a boy that lives 5000 miles away and im staying with him for a week this summer. when i think abot it my head just spins and i feel crazy just like the author of the song. when i go, ill want to fill up every second with words so we can really get to know each other. The line "Make me sick sick sick to kiss you and I think that i would vomit" makes me think of getting butterfies in your stomach right before you kiss someone and feeling like youre gonna throw up. i love this song so much :]]] |

i think a lot of people are misunderstanding the whole point of "slouching toward bethlehem" it doesnt matter what essay or poem it came from but it is in reference to the mainly jewish and muslim custom to bow or kneel to the east while in prayer. connor is saying that this belittlement of ourselves to "slouch" to a direction as if it is greater than us is the "sum of man" or what we add up to. this also goes with the direction theme of the song. (north south east west) each of the religions blatantly mentioned, islam, judaism, and christianity, place the eastern direction in some high regard, but in this song connor refers to each of the directions equally as the "four winds" its also interesting that cassadega comes from the seneca phrase "water under the rocks" which is in reference to the fact that the water in the area is provided by springs, not snowmelt, which is deceptive because the water almost magically appears from beneath the land. |
