Nu-metal my dick. Godsmack are straight heavy-metal/hard rock. Nu metal doesn't traditionally have such bitchin guitar solos. |

"Fuck freedom if I'm not alive to live it
I'll fight for it
I won't kill or die for it"
What a pussy. I'm not sure what he's getting at, but it sounds like he's saying he wouldn't risk his life in a necessary war like World War I or II. The freedom of your country, your family, your loved ones is definitely something worth killing and dying for. There have been many unjust wars, wars that should have been protested against and criticized and never should have happened in the first place, but sometimes there's no other option. |

I certainly don't find anything wrong with his clean singing. Especially not on this track. If you don't like the new direction In Flames has gone in, then just don't listen to their new stuff. |

I don't know why so many people have such a problem with clean singing in metal. |

Why don't you offer up something better, Devhead, you stupid cunt? Can you? That's someone's own personal interpretation, it can't be asinine as long as it means something to them so why don't you keep your fucking mouth shut and let people take from art what they please. |

| In Flames – Suburban Me Lyrics

I think it's about a person who, instead of following his dreams went along with the societal norm, maybe started a family, got a dog and a house in the Suburbs but he realizes that this was his ultimate failure and longs to go about doing the things he sees others do but knows (or thinks he knows) that he cannot because he is trapped in his suburban hell of a life. These lyrics are not that hard to decipher but they're some of my favorite IF lyrics out of all of their songs because they deliver a profound message very poetically and each lyric supports, to an extent, the overall theme. an amazing song in every aspect and probably my favorite from Clayman. |

These lyrics aren't nearly as ambiguous and In Flame's lyrics can get and usually are. Much more strait forward. This isn't a bad thing since the song is conveying a very powerful message. I also like the rhyme schemes employed in the verses. I love the riff that first kicks in at about 1:53 and then once more before the song ends. |

Soundtrack may be my least favorite of their discography but the music is still good and entertaining if not as brilliant as a lot of their other work is. This is the first In Flames song I ever heard which I'm sure is the case with many as it's easily one of their most popular. I'm not sure about the lyrics, from a lyrical stand point this is easily their weakest album, for the most part they don't evoke the thoughts and emotions most of their other songs do. There are a couple of exceptions though. Still, I greatly enjoy this song |

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to choose I may very well pick this as my all time favorite In Flames song. The lyrics illicit emotion and imagery so well. I have no theory as to what the song is supposed to mean, though, but I do like to think about it. |

I love this song. One of the best on the album. Definitely hearkens back to Colony in my opinion, as do several others off of this CD, but still with a different feel to it. They're still progressing which is why I like this band so much (aside from them just kicking ass) they're not afraid to change, try new sounds and do what they want no matter what the metal nazi's and the purists say.
Anyway's, what this song means to me is taking off in life, leaving the nest, so to speak, finding your way and living your own way.
"Slide away
Learn your ways and fire when ready.
This is a race to no mans land.
but who knows the directions."
Slide away from the past, spend your time finding out who you are and what you can do and when you're ready for it, let loose. No man's land, to me, means death and what occurs afterwards and we're all on a race towards that but who know the way we get there, the path we take on the way. That's what it means to me. |
