I agree with the last post, that it COULD be about L Ron Hubbard. But it could just as easily be about Jesus Christ himself, or any other self-proclaimed prophet to God. |

I think it's "she needs him", too. Not "feeds him". I think on the surface, it could be about a woman unhappy with an abusive (?) man, but could also just be about the woman's own tendency toward malcontent-ness. She's miserable, but if she's brutally honest, she'd think, "Hey, this guy's not so bad, I could definitely do a lot worse..." . |

I agree with many of the other posts, that it's about a man/artist who longs for a woman (not a daughter) who is lost to him for whatever reason (death?). He is saddened by the idea of anything hopeful, happy, positive, and wishes to live in 'black'. |
