It's a song about living a different lifestyle. The goldfish in the bowl lives a simple, safe life in a fish bowl. No surprises, boring as fuck, but safe. The fish in the ocean have a world to explore but every turn could be their last. Seeing how the goldfish left the bowl it probalby means that somebody has chosen to step outside their bounderies and life a more exciting dangerous life. |

ya id agree with most people here and say that the song is about cloning in the future (they also wrote an album called a brave new world so that proves that they are interested in the topic)
'create a beast made a man without a sole" that could be a clone
'a war of god and man' that could be how man wants to create clones but religion is against that.

Actually now that i think about it alot of other lines make sense with it being about drugs:

I hate to be the first person and then not say something good (I do think it is an excellent song) but think that the lyrics to the second verse should say "I lost the job I had, well pick me up at my mom and dad's." And then the last line should say

I'm guessing i'm wrong here cus everyone else is saying something else. but when i first listened to this song i always imagined that he was just talking to someone who really cared about him. The girl who cared about him was clean and it was him with the drug problem. Then I could see him walking down a street and there is someone who looks exactly like him only this man is clean and is not living a drug filled life. That would be the part when he says "if only you could see the stranger infront of me" he isn't reallly a stranger but that would be the dudes liv if he wasnt a drug attict. So i guess the tittle drugs or me would be about the real him who has a good future or the one who does drugs. |
