I don't no im usually pretty shitty at figuring out what songs mean but i think it has to do with loving someone and knowing that you'll never see them again so ur basically going crazy thinking about them i dont no tho if some one else says something different id go with watever they say
Yeah you got the right idea, that's the same idea I had untill I looked up what a "Banshee" is, it's something from mythology and folklore they are said to wail around a house if someone in the house is about to die, it's also said that There are particular families who are believed to have Banshees attached to them, and whose cries herald the death of a member of that family. you can read more about it on wikipedia. But yeah for the most part it does seem to be about what you said.
Or... the song is an allegory to Wuthering Heights. The speaker is pretty much expressing Heathcliff's more tender side, which comes in the form of his true love for Catherine.

Its about 1 of two possible things:
Its about some chick he love who died and hes upset and he says that he sees her even after death so he knows shes still around and hopes she still loves him even though she wont let him see her.. hence the "you leave with a start when i open my eyes, you get shy if i look at you" meaning shes a ghost
or..
Its about a chick he loves who doesnt love him anymore and the love is dying and she is leading him on and he knows it but doesn't want to accept reality that there can be nothing between them anymore.. and the death metaphor is representing there love.
The thought that love is spirit like, hes letting love know that hes ready for it but its not coming to him, so hes patiently waiting, its actually pretty genius:)
