| Maria Taylor – Orchids Lyrics

I think those lyric corrections are all right! And I also agree that this is about the end of a relationship, where both parties still really care about one another, but have realized that they can't stay together and keep moving forward in their own lives. |

| Jenny Owen Youngs – If I Didn't Know Lyrics

I think this (very beautiful) song is about the realities of a loving relationship--there are always difficulties, problems, things that sting. But ultimately, she starts off and and ends by saying, that it all lets her know how much he loves her. It's getting through the bad things that allow her to want him. |

| Maria Taylor – Lady Luck Lyrics

"Lady Luck" is a cliche expression that just means luck or fortune in general. I think she uses it here to refer to how, in the past, she used to look and wait for good luck without really understanding what it was, whereas now, she is able to accept things the way they are and see herself as "lucky" whether or not they fit the traditional mold of what luck is.
She also plays around with the idea of luck in "Lost Time," saying "if it's all just luck, it was tough enough..." An emerging theme, perhaps? |

| Emilíana Torrini – Fisherman's Woman Lyrics

Like many of the songs on this album ("Snow" in particular) I think "Fisherman's Woman" is a song dealing with the death of Emiliana's lover. I think she is saying that is much easier to imagine him away at sea, rather than gone forever. Ultimately, however, this is tragic, because she will always be waiting. |

I think it's about choosing between two lovers, not a lover and her music, because of the lines at the very end: "So I'm going home to please the one I so love pleasing, but I don't expect he'll have much sympathy..." |

| Liz Phair – Fuck And Run Lyrics

Liz is totally doing the fuck-and-running. Even though she keeps thinking "this wouldn't happen again," she finds herself having one night stand after one night stand. Old habits die hard. And I think she's serious about the "even when I was twelve" part. Although maybe that was more "handjob and run." |

| Maria Taylor – Song Beneath the Song Lyrics
| 18 years ago

The song actually isn't anywhere near as deep as this! I read an interview with Maria Taylor where they asked her about this song and she said she wrote it after someone misunderstood an Azure Ray song she wrote and referred to it as a love song. (She wouldn't reveal which song this one is referring to, however). Anyway, literally, this is about a song which might seem like a love song, but isn't. |
