That's a great story, Shep. I listen to this song back-to-back-to-back in the wee hours of the night/morning as I'm trying to pass the time while writing college essays. They're done in no time. When Duane Allman gives the role-call of the band, and ends with "I'm Duane Allman, thank you".. I get chills down my spine.. |

Why do you say this is a tribute to Miles Davis? The boys used to hang out at a graveyard at night drinking and partying, and one of the gravestones read Elizabeth Reed. Dickey wrote this instrumental and named it after her. Eventually this would be the same graveyard where Duane and Berry were buried. The live version on At Fillmore East is in my mind their greatest performance ever. Every band member brings his best, and Duane's lightning fast solo is unbelievable. |

Why are some people writing that this was Duane's favourite Gregg song? Duane had died before this song! Dickey is on the electric while Gregg provides the acoustic. Quite possibly the Allman Brothers' best song. I would like to think that Duane is the gypsy. |

Anderson Council, the first solo is Duane while the second solo is Dickey. If you've listened to Fillmore East hundreds of times like I have, you instantly recongnize each of their styles! To me, this song is all about Duane passing Dickey the torch. He literally does it in the middle of the song, and Dickey responds by finally equalling Duane's skill. Soon after this song was made, Duane would tragically die. Blue Sky is definitely a top five studio song for the Brothers.. along with Dreams, Whipping Post, Melissa, and Jessica. |

Can't believe no one has commented on this song! The meaning is obvious, and certainly isn't anything new.. but the presentation is great. Great sound, and dominant guitar solo at the end.. One of the most underrated Skynyrd songs. |
