I sort of felt like the song was about feeling out of place in your own body, and coming to terms with it. Obviously the title fits with this- being born into a foreign body. Especially when he says "When I was young boy........but now that I'm a grown woman." It's about sexual identity, and finally letting himself really love someone despite conflicts with nature. |

i think it's about a one-night stand. he's afraid of what might come of it the next day, so he'll leave at sunrise, to skip the awkward day-after formalities. he thinks maybe she'll fall for him, or maybe he'll fall for her, and he doesn't want to complicate anything...anymore than it already is. maybe i'm wrong. thats just what i think. |

I agree with Dhdywojmf in a way..but also, I think there's a relationship going on. I think that perhaps both of the people in the relationship are contemplating suicide, and are not only helpless to to overcome their own obstacles, but also their partners. It's ironic, therefore, that both are saying "all i've got is your hand" when both of them drowning. They're keeping one another afloat and dragging themselves down at the same time. And it is a plea to God... to save them both. I think "no one's daughter" is a reference to the Blowers Daughter. In the Blowers Daughter, Damien says "the colder water, the Blower's Daughter".. so there's obviously a connection. The girl? The relationship? Loving her and hating himself?
It's a beautiful song. Breathtaking. My absolute favorite. |
