| Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – A Beast For Thee Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Okay, I think you got it right more or less. But I definitely don't like your wording. Maybe a better way to put it will be "I can be a great lover for you, if you will be kind with me". Anyhow, I think BPB is saying it much better than you and me. |

| XTC – Love On A Farmboy's Wages Lyrics | 14 years ago |
First, "painting pictures carving wood" does not describe a typical farm work. It is an allegory on being an artist; I think it represents Andy himself. Second, there is another XTC song with a similar meaning - "Earn enough for us". Apparently Andy was under a lot of financial pressure when he was young, probably he felt insecure about the future, he was not sure he will be able to provide for his family. Another song, "Harvest Festival", has a clue about Andy feeling that he is a failure while at school: - "And what a year when the exams and crops all failed". So, no surprise he was feeling insecure about his future. |

| Queens of the Stone Age – No One Knows Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about f***ing the girlfriend of your friend. What a fool he was till he realized she wants him. And hell with the rules we have to follow. What she does to him - no one knows... |

| Them Crooked Vultures – Bandoliers Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Just adding something: After some thought, this song is talking about him (Homme) firing his friend Nick Oliveri from the band (QOTSA)after Nick was violent with his girlfriend. Apparently Nick already promised Josh never to behave this way again after the previous incident. You turned the corner I’ll never go I admit I feel a bit deceived So the old friendship is gone. And of course it is breaking his heart. Prepare to take aim And fire Cos no-one can make me fire No-one can make me fire So he is ready to take all the publicity dirt in the news, Nick "firing" at him. But he is not going to answer with firing back (actually he did it later). http://www.earvolution.com/2005/07/josh-homme-reveals-reason-for-firing.asp http://madmforums.com/index.php?topic=2127.0;wap2 |

| Queens of the Stone Age – I'm Designer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think dystopia is right. This is about the art going mainstream. The art is for sale, the artist is for sale, just a question of price. If the artist is trying to go in a new direction, the label will stop him and ask him to repeat more of the same stuff that was successful previously. That's why the question: "How many times must I sell myself before my pieces are gone?" And the feeling that "I counterfeit myself" And the promise: "Never again will I repeat myself" that is broken immediately by repeating the sentence. And the terrible feeling that "I’m a Whore" But the truth is the art is not for sale because it doesn't belong to anyone, not even to the artist himself: You don’t own what none can buy You don’t own Neither do I |

| Them Crooked Vultures – Dead End Friends Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this is about understanding that the fate maybe random, and that he is not much different from his dead end friends, people whom he new years before, but who became junkies or just lost their way. It is a fear that we all have, when we see an old friend who is a complete failure. This is especially true when we are dealing with artists, musicians, creative people, who do not have a structured way of life and are dependent on such a difficult to grasp concepts like inspiration and creativity. "we're the same, MY DEAD END FRIENDS & I" - the thought must be just terrifying. |

| Them Crooked Vultures – Bandoliers Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Probably it is my imagination but I was thinking about a different interpretation: Maybe it is not about breaking up with a woman, but with a friend, maybe a former member of his band. Maybe this man is doing something unethical that Homme just can not live with, maybe he became a drug dealer or whatever. Anyhow, now they are on the different sides of the closing door, maybe even this former friend became arrested and Homme has to testify against him. So he is accused of being not loyal, but he can not imagine following the wrong pass. |

| Micachu – Turn Me Well Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think this is about longin for an old friend. Apparently, no expiry date for this feeling. She still wants him. | |
| Micachu – Golden Phone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I am pretty sure this is about TV shows - but she doesn't want that. Can't figure out yet what is the "nonsense sound" that she loves so much, maybe something to do with mongrels? And who is Nancy? |
| Micachu – Wrong Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think the line "but if I pierce your heart it is bound to sting" echoes Alice in Wonderland lines: "a red-hot poker will burn you if you hold it too long; and that if you cut your finger very deeply with a knife, it usually bleeds; and she had never forgotten that, if you drink much from a bottle marked `poison,' it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later" A typical British understatement joke... |
| Micachu – Just In Case Lyrics | 15 years ago |
She must be under lots of stress, which is not surprising. Is the first verse mocking an insurence policy? And the point of course is that you can't be covered for everything... I think this song is about a fear of failure that is transformed into a fobia. |

| Wilco – Pick Up The Change Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Why he is asking her to help him to pick up the change? Because she is changing and he wants to change with her, so they will still have lots of things in common, like they used to. So when he says 'now we are just the same', it is more of a wishful thinkig than truth. Apparently they are drifting apart, her mind is wondering, and he hopes that kissing her on her cheek will make it fall back in line. For me this song is about a couple that struggles to stay together by changing together. Very romantic, but not simple (personal experience). Anyhow, beautiful song. |

| Pixies – Brick Is Red Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Just a wild guess, maybe "the brick is red" was another verse in this song that was later omitted? Just because it fits the rhythm of the song... |
| Micachu – Sweet Heart Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Great song. Very much Pixies, short and wild, something like "I'm Amaized". Now about the the text - it sounds to me like a therapy session. |
| Them Crooked Vultures – Scumbag Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The meaning is obvious. Josh Homme feels like scumbag. He is using his art to attract young and inocent female fans. He knows how to do it, but his victims are powerless and then left in the cold. Apparently he feels guilty. |

| Wilco – Ashes of American Flags Lyrics | 16 years ago |
My favorite line is: "I wonder why we listen to poets and nobody gives a fuck" I actually think it says "when nobody gives a fuck" Such a strong way to put it. Again, Jeff is talking about the role of a poet in a society. He is frustrated cause he is seeing the American society as most materialistic with no role for a poet. The most depressing though for an artist. Much later, in another song - Theologians - he is comparing himself to a prophet: "Where I go you can not come" - a spiritual leader. Slightly more optimistic view. |
| Wilco – Wishful Thinking Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Fill up your mind with all it can know Don't forget that your body will let it all go I think this is about the struggle of the mind and the soul. You KNOW that you should not fall in love with a person (for any reason) but then you still fall in love. A forbidden, embarrassing love. Chambers of chains With red plastic mouths The inside of outside No one has found How to unring the bell It's just as well I am not sure about this, but it reminds me some image of how our brain works. Chains of thoughts. The inside (thoughts) of outside (the reality). Still you can not undo the things in the real world. I shook down those lines To shine up the streets I got up off my hands and knees To thank my lucky stars that you're not me Again he is speaking about the role of a poet. He does it in many of his songs (Theologians, for instance). His suffering is transformed into words and music that will shine the streets. And he is happy that the object of his love is not a tormented soul as he is. |

| Wilco – Everlasting Everything Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Everlasting love is metaphysical, not a physical love in this song. Love in the Buddhist sense, love that transcends the past and the future. Everlasting. |
| Wilco – Sonny Feeling Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think the song is about fate. He thinks, what would have happen if that duel in high school would have ended differently? Or if the winds over Amsterdam would not force us to land in Berlin? Or the plane would crash? Some critical crossroads in our fate are guided by chance and one could only imagine the different life (or death) he could have lived in other circumstances. Apparently JT is talking about a girl named Sonny who was attacked by cruel kids (Eminem's suburban gangster flow). He connects this incident with his own experience in high school (duel?) that may have ended differently. |
| Wilco – Solitaire Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The words of this song are sort of connected to the other song in this album: "Deeper down" That song start with "He felt the insult of a kiss" and ends with "He felt the comfort of a kiss" The ability to accept love is something we learn with time. The message also reminds of the Beatles song "Help": When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way, But now these days are gone and I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind I've opened up the doors |
| Wilco – You Never Know Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I like the words: Come on kids You're acting like children (that means, trying to look older than your age looks foolish) Act your age (that means, be children, be naive, pure...) Put back the black metals and pearls (again, return to the natural, leave piercing and tattoo etc...) I agree with the message. And JT is not preaching, he is telling it with a loving smile. It also connects to George Harrison who was sort of a symbol of flower generation. |
| Wilco – Deeper Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Beautiful. I think this song is about the struggle of everyday life which feels meaningless. And then the deeper mysterious layers of being human that connect us to the universe. And the ability to accept love (the kiss) - the only thing that will comfort us in our pain. Beautiful. |

| Department of Eagles – Waves of Rye Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Maybe waves of rye has something to do with "The Catcher in the Rye". Meaning the trouble of dealing with the real cruel life. The Catcher is also sort of protector - thats how Holden understands it. | |
| Beck – Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song reminds me the Pixies songs atmosphere. Especially Surfer Rosa. Take a song like "Tame": also about a girl, similar feeling. | |
