Yeah they ARE amazing, but I don't really think the lyrics to this song are straightforward or self-explanatory. I looooove this song but I never got the verses, I just listened for the "all of your love is all that I needed", lol.
Oh and btw "Powerpop" is the perfect word to describe their music, I feel so much power, force and strength when I hear the beaths and the sync and the melody... it's soo engaging! |

The whole song is about how much he loves her and how special she is and everything, but I think this verse is a reference to a fight they had, where she said "I wanna move on with my life/ I can't change for you" and then he says the don't-leave-me-out part, etc. He thinks she is an amazing girl and he loves her, but he worries when they get into these fights, when she is not "perfectly" her. |

Well I got a couple of meanings I think I've messed up, but it's just what I get from the song:
"Were you born to resist or be abused?"
He likes this girl, but he thinks that she is being used by someone/she is a slut, so he says this to her because he's concerned about her.
"You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use"
He had never loved another woman as he loved her, but it was worthless because she didn't feel the same way about him.
Overall I think this song is a bout a guy that loves a girl, but this girl doesn't like him back. He tells her that he won't "give in" to stop loving her and he asks her "why can't you love me? is it because someone else is in your mind? Is it because someone else is getting the BEST OF YOU?"

I guess some people can see this song as an amazing, romantic work of art and some others will see it as a guy trying to get a girl laid. For me, it's both. Although the guy is saying all those things for the purpose of having sex with her, he also feels all that stuff and he truly loves her. |

I agree with Skoorb about this song being about the same topis as "83". It's about not wanting to grow older, about returning to his childhood dreams... "stop this train" to me means "stop time". He is desperate and afraid, he isn't sure if he's ready to be an adult so he goes to his dad and asks him for advice, and his dad says that he must let time pass by, everything comes in due time, etc. His dad says that, by the time John's 68, he will definitely want time to move faster, maybe because he's old/worn out/ tired? Dunno, that's just what I think :D GREAT SONG!!!! |

great song but It really needs explaining. I think it is about a church literaly burning, or a reference to it. Perhaps religion is fading or something, and then he calls out for the only one that can help: "Christ, where've you gone?"
