Bright Eyes – Lime Tree Lyrics

I agree with most of your interpretation. I don't think the "some are ripe and some are rotten" is referring to the child being rotten. I think he means some of the memories of the event. He knows why the abortion was done and I have a feeling that he agreed to it. Although the "sleeping next to a stranger" part would indicate otherwise. However, if we go along with the idea that he did agree to the woman getting an abortion, then I think he is saying that he understands that it needed to be done and that it was the best decision, however, he is clearly mourning. I also think the part where he is "lost and found with every step he takes" is sort of the same thing. In all of his thinking, he at times feels at peace with the situation (or forces himself to believe he is at peace) and at times, the grieving comes back to him.
I understood the last part after recently braking up with my boyfriend. At times I convinced myself that it was the right thing to do, and then later I'd convince myself to call him and try to make up. And it just goes back and forth that way. Lost and found with each step. It makes so much sense once you've been there. |

Cold War Kids – The Wedding Lyrics

Dancing like he WORLD is ending and ?
I think this song is about a wedding guest who doesn't know how he feels about weddings, hence, his not really wanting to go "I got dragged to this wedding". Also, when he says "like it's so easy to know how you'll feel come anniversary" he is questioning how people settle down, wondering, how do they know that in a year or five years they will feel the same? He clearly doesn't know what love is, thinking he is in love with everyone and then no one. I think the "it's a crime" thing is referring to him being cynical at their wedding and he's thinking he shouldn't think that way. |

These lyrics are pretty off.
And they're missing the stanza about the camouflaged parrot who flutters from fear when something he doesn't know about suddenly appears.
"What cannot be imitated perfect must die."
A lot of the other lyrics are wrong too unless I have a different version but I don't think I do. |

Well the more that I've listened to it, I am starting to think he is talking about having sex. When you're sleeping with someone, they are your audience of one. I don't know the song just sounds so... sexy and I think this could be why. Just a thought, folks! |

Cold War Kids – Sermons Lyrics

Wow I was just reading Franny and Zooey and look at this excerpt spoken by Zooey to his mother in regards of whether to send Franny to a psychoanalyst:
"Listen to me now. If you can't or won't think of Seymour, then you go right ahead and call in some ignorant psychoanalyst.. You do just that. You just call in some analyst who's experienced in adjusting people to the joys of television and Life magazine every Wednesday, and European travel and the H-Bomb and the Presidential elections, and the front page of the Times and the responsibilities of the Westport and Oyster Bay Parent-Teacher Association, and God knows what else that's gloriously normal-you just do that and I swear to you, in not more than a year Franny'll either be in a nut ward or she'll be wandering off into some goddam desert with a burning cross inside her hands."
Okay that's a LOT of similarities to this song! This must have been an inspiration :) |

i agree it has to do with being nostalgic about old times but he isn't sorry for not writing so i guess he's saying "those were great times and i loved you guys but now i'm in a new place and i can't drag the past with me." i believe the lyrics are a little off but i'm not sure :) |

this is one of my favorite tp songs i thought there'd be more comments. i agree that the girl is trying to break up with him and he's telling her to go but then saying "BUT, remember good love is hard to find" and so he's telling her to go but i'm not sure that he means it. he really wants her to know that she got lucky and that she won't find anything like him again. i looooveeee the video. it has nothing to do with the songs but it's awesome! |

"he's young and on fire
full of hope and desire
in a world that's been raped, raped and defiled
if i fall along the way
and can's see another day
lord, protect my child"
that's my favorite verse. he's saying how innocent and beautiful his young son is even thought the world he lives in has been "raped and defiled". this song is very touching although i'm not sure when this song was written (anyone have a better guess than between 61-91? lol so i'm not sure if this was written for his first son or before that or after he'd had more children... either way it's a beautiful song :) |

Bob Dylan – Love Minus Zero/No Limit Lyrics

I just had a thought: the line "she knows there's no success like failure and that failure's no success at all" has always struck me as confusing. What did he mean by that? I think that maybe he is talking about how certain sayings contradict each other. For example "absence makes the heart grow fonder" and "out of sight, out of mind". I'm not sure if he's saying that she's so wise that she has heard all of these things before and discounts it all or if he's saying that both sayings are true.
In the case of these lines, it is true that failures can become the greatest successes, but of course no one is ever fails intentionally.
Maybe she just finds the good in everything so she accepts whatever comes her way?
Hm...
Maybe he just thought it sounded cool.

this song is great, no comments? i love the imagery. my favorite part is the "leave your circus noise behind you" part. it immediately reminded me of bob dylan's "temporary like achilles" where he sang "lean into your hallway, lean against your velvet door. watch upon your scorpion who crawls across your circus floor"
i know the only similarity is the word "circus" but i know lightfoot was an inspiration of dylan's so i like to think maybe bd heard this song and thought "circus" as an adjective was cool.... i know i do |

it was a bob dylan cover band (i wanna say the byrds) who misheard it that way. they saw him backstage and asked him for some new songs and he said yeah i have one and sung this, they were confused about it and said basically "it's really nice but no thanks" bob didn't question them and recorded it himself :) |

definitely about hookers. love this song! can't believe i didn't comment it already. and the bootleg 6 version is ORGASMIC. it's actually the only version i listen to. i'd delete the hw 61 version if it wasn't sacrilege. :P
my favorite lines are "if you're lookin to get silly, you better go back to form where you came. cause the cops don't need you and man, they expect the same" HA! |

this song is so beautiful, i could listen to it over and over again. my favorite verse is also the last. haven't we all been tired of being tired? i love the line "most things i worry about never happen anyways" it reminds me of when you're in loe and can't stop thinking about someone and naturally, you worry about some things "will he like this dress, will he like my cooking, blah blah blah" but then you never even see the person and so none of that stuff even gets a chance to happen... things left unsaid and undone. how sad. petty's voice is gorgeous in this song. |

this song is so beautiful although i'm sure these lyrics are all wrong, (better than anything i could come up with though!), you don't even need to understand what he's saying here, yet you know exactly how he feels =(
he is so regretful, so hurt, so confused.
i wonder if bob even knows what he's saying here because honestly at some points, it sounds like he was just making things up lol but like i said, it doesn't matter. this is one of his masterpieces, and i can't believe there are no comments, sad. |

Bob Dylan – Boots of Spanish Leather Lyrics

poor dylan took it VERY personally that suze left to study in italy. this song is gorgeous. the first six verses are suze and bob talking and the bob takes off with what he thinks about her leaving and how it must mean she doesn't care about him. it's a very sad song. he was heartbroken =(
the line "i don't know when i'm coming back again, it depends on how i'm feelin" sticks out to me. who knows if suze actually said something this straight forward, but i thought of it as bob's impression of how she felt nonchalant about their relationship and didn't really give a rat's ass about bob. i don't think that's true at all. suze just wanted some freedom, she was young after all. how many girls would leave BOB DYLAN in his prime? she was very self assured. |
