The Wedding Lyrics
I got dragged
Into this wedding with my friend Maurice
Hoping to dance and drink some fine champage
Still get out early enough to drive your car
Out to the ocean
But the clouds were lost
And all the songs were sweet
Starry eyed
I'm sentimental and I get sucked in
To any union
Promising away
Like it's so easy to know how you'll be
Come anniversary
Oh, I can keep a promise
No, I can't keep a secret
She's in bloom
Her lips and shoulders dressing up this room
Dancing like the wedding's ended and.. ?
I've got time
I've been around and I've got time
But it's a crime to sit and wonder
And oh, it's a crime, oh
If you knew, oh
If you knew, oh
I am in love with everyone here
I am in love with everyone here
No, I'm not in love with anyone dear
I'm not in love
She's in bloom
Her lips and shoulders dressing up this room
Dancing like the wedding's ended and.. ?
But I've got time
I've been around and I've got time
And it's a crime to sit and wonder
And God, it's a crime
I can keep a promise
No, I can't keep a secret

cold feet, second guesses, doubts, fear of a mundane unionized 9-5 life and the consequences that it brings, and fear that he isnt worth his word. im young and have my life ahead, i love everyone, i cant keep myself promised to you--and the tension that that brings. im not sure if its the narrator's wedding or not. but the thoughts are as if it is.
This song seems pretty literal to me. It's about a guy who goes to a wedding, gets mushy about it and comments that it's so easy for them, "like they'll know what they'll feel like come anniversary." he sees a beautiful woman and thinks immediately, "i'm in love" but then realizes, "i'm in love with no one here." he's afraid of commitment. then he comforts himself with, "i've been around, i've got time." it's about second guessing yourself and being afraid of falling in love and wrecking it.
I wish the comment type would include "Lyric Addition", as I don't have anything to correct. That said, I would like to add I believe the line is "Dancing like the wedding's ended and the lights are low". Other than that, it's perfect, word for word, and is one of my favorite songs, by Cold War Kids and in general. Try listening to this and then "Every Man I fall For". What a beautiful collision!
Dancing like he WORLD is ending and ?
I think this song is about a wedding guest who doesn't know how he feels about weddings, hence, his not really wanting to go "I got dragged to this wedding". Also, when he says "like it's so easy to know how you'll feel come anniversary" he is questioning how people settle down, wondering, how do they know that in a year or five years they will feel the same? He clearly doesn't know what love is, thinking he is in love with everyone and then no one. I think the "it's a crime" thing is referring to him being cynical at their wedding and he's thinking he shouldn't think that way.
