How at all is this contradictory? They "tipped", he "froze", he "couldn't throw the rope". Pretty straight forward he is in the boat He couldn't throw the rope because he froze after the boat tipped they were in... So she drowned. Not by any means am I saying it couldn't be a metaphor however |

To me this song is about a couple that is close, dare I say in love even. And they know one another very well but they have things in there past that they don't tell each other or ask one another about. "You don't need to know that much about me", Let lying dogs lie. With that though I believe it may also show that they are strangers. That they don't know everything about each other. This causes maybe misconstrued words due to insecurities because of their pasts. "But you and I I think we can take it All the good with the bad Make something that no one else has" Despite it how ever LOVE concurs all |
