Beirut – Mount Wroclai (Idle Days) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
npknhdfrvr, i totally agree about the accordian and i definitely hear winter in the first line. for me, it sounds like the meaning has something to do with having nothing else to give meaning to your life without your heart/love/emotion? any or all of the above. |
The Knife – You Make Me Like Charity Lyrics | 16 years ago |
for me this song clicked because of the word "enough" in the last line. the beginning talks about feeling numb, you try to do all these things differently but you dont wake up from the numbness of your banal life. the reason that there is this numbness is because none of it is meaningful. you read about the war, or what i believe is a reference to rape (her exposed position - as in a rape scene), yet you are so wrapped up in being a "good citizen" and living a "normal" life, that you feel disconnected from the horribly things happening in the world around you. so you travel all over (take a cab, take a plane) to experience these things, but the only thing that can make you "wake up" is by empathizing with other human beings. thats why you begin to love giving to charity, rather than satisfying the need to feel like a good citizen by paying "enough" taxes. ps if anyone ever reads slavoj zizeks "welcome to the desert of the real", he talks about this. its wonderful |
Le Tigre – What's Ya Take on Cassavettes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
yeah gena rowlands starred in a lot of his films, faces for instance (1968). and the whole misogynist thing: i read somewhere that cassavetes based "woman under the influence" partially off of his emotional experiences in his own marriage to rowlands. and considering that in the film, the quasi-alcoholic, semi-psychotic mabel (played by gena rowlands) is not only completely controlled by, sent to a mental institution by, and verbally and physically abused by her violent and somewhat deranged husband, i think theres a bit of truth to both accusations of misogynist and genius. the film IS genius, despite its foundations in personal experiences. as is faces. all his female roles are eccentric and indulgent, but the films themselves are brilliant in portraying the scenario. |

Uh Huh Her – Explode Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i LOVE this song. indeed its wicked sensual. i actually think its about prostitution or something? or the "payment" of which they're singing could be of the emotional sort? i dont know, but leisha hailey is god. |
Feist – La Même Histoire Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i dont know if this is all correct, my french is rusty, but i gave it a try: what IS this bond between us, that indefinable thing? Where are those destinies that take shape and make us inseparable? we go forward through/over time at the behest of the wind...and so... we live from day to day our desires, our loves we go without knowing we are always in the same story what IS this which separates us, that brings us together by accident? why so many goings, so many departures in this infinite circle? we go forward through/over time at the behest of the wind...and so... we live from day to day our desires, our loves we go without knowing we are always in the same story...2x the same story... |
José González – Crosses Lyrics | 16 years ago |
indeed i think its about coming together to help a friend after a tragedy. of course there is the allusion to the car accident (crosses all over the boulevard/sirens/etc). and you know those vigils that people have after someone who touched their lives dies? when they all bring candles. i think the "we'll cast some light and youll be alright" refers to the groups of people being there to support the individual (with the metaphor of the candle-bearers). i also think the sirens inside the speaker wanting to reach out to the person who has lost someone parallel the sirens that reached out to the one who was lost. in the same way that the sirens were there to help the person (who has obviously died) the sirens inside of the speaker are there to help their friend in their time of trial. just my interpretation but i love this song. |

Spoon – Don't You Evah Lyrics | 16 years ago |
just my humble opinion, but i think this song is about someone not wanting to say "i love you" to someone else. evidenced in: "Bet you got it all planned right Bet you never worry never even feel a fright Bet you got it all planned right Never fit to worry never even feel a fright." > he/she dont have to worry about getting hurt if he/she never admits that he/she's in love, or never says it. "Single sleeps alone and I know you don't really mind Five years by your side so I know you really don't mind" >their partner knows that they don't really mind being in this relationship because they've been together for five years. "Don't you never think it's right Bet you think you had to but it doesn't feel right Bet you never think it feels right Famous-sounding words make your head feel light" >the person is kinda confused as to why people say those "sweet nothings" to each other because the "famous-sounding" words, such as "i love you" still make their lover's/their own head feel light, even thought the words are said all the time. "Petals getting picked with the love-yous and the love-you-nots" >because this aloof individual never says "i love you," their partner is always wondering whether or not he/she actually DOES love them. i dont know. just off the top. enlighten me. |
Indochine – Alice et June Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think the translation goes something like: and 1, 2, 3, Alice was born in the land of nightmares i would like to reassure her and 1, 2, 3, Alice fell in a black hole i could be her savior but what does one make of evil? i dont remember anything there is too much world around me Alice isnt coming back to me and 1, 2, 3, Alice was born in a place a place that shouldn't have been (? my french is rusty) and 1, 2, 3, Alice in the land of stars it was once someone like me but if you see me, i think that you will grow and 1, 2, 3, jesus christ is really dead for nothing i hope that all goes well but there is a place here no more for her to grow well (again ?) she had just one problem: it is to understand rainy days but i am there sorry if its not right. my french is out of practice |
