Also, I want to say, I know they're not a "Christian" band and I myself abhor religion, I just know Dustin often writes in religious undertones in a lot of Thrice's music. |

Seems quite obvious, a simple struggle of faith or lashing out at "God" or Jesus, whatever. Seems as though Dustin is talking about how he knows "God" is supposed to be for comfort, for healing, for good, but all he sees is evil, fear, darkness coming from "God."

I think this is the obligatory song on the album about being on the road and being tired of it. Still good. |

It's sad this album got leaked, it happens to everyone but 3 months before the album is released is ridiculous. The worst part is the fact Thrice always gives %10 of all money made from album sales to a charity, so it's ripping off a charity as well. I urge everyone to at least purchase the digital copy.
That being said, this song is awesome. To me it seems he's talking about the genocidal consensus this Country is heading and how they're destroying the world. But in order to remain sane, he'd rather not know about it. Out of sight, out of mind. That's what it seems to be about IMO. Of course, most of all Thrice is equivocal.
<3 Thrice, support them and the charity. Purchase! |

'ThriceCube' you're right that they've gone on the record saying "we're not a Christian band, we're not all Christian". That doesn't however take away from the fact that Dustin does follow catholicism. He writes the lyrics. Perhaps you're the one that isn't broadminded enough to accept the fact that religion plays a large part in peoples lives and it will shine through, especially when making music.
Dustin also said that the lyrics he writes, most of the time, do have biblical references and do, in fact, pertain to God, Faith or what not. He also goes on to say that he writes them in a way, no matter what faith or religious affiliation you are, you can get something from the lyrics.
For the record, I don't believe in God. It's been disproved. |

I think since it's pertaining to Greek Mythology that "Gods" is the term he is using. Plural. |

I like how StaryNightSkies2 left out the "I'll take this on my own" part.
In other words, he's giving into the weaknesses of the flesh and losing faith. Taking things on his own, without the Grace of the lord.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against religion but the ignorance that comes with the faith. Really bothers me. Some christians, that is. |

"numbheart "
Not only is that ignorant, it's a blatant display of your mediocrity as a human being. I myself don't believe in God and I think that God as a concept is preposterous.
That in no way should deny you from accepting the fac t that Norma Jean is in fact a Christian band. They're straight from the Bible belt. They also openly admit it.
I feel bad for your friends and family for having to know you personally. |

I prefer when Spill Canvas is cynical but this song is one of those feel good songs.
Yet they do it without being corny or whiny.
Brilliant like most of their music. |

HAHA, I love when Nick makes women to look like whores.
Because really, in a nutshell, they're only good for being whores. |

This is a great song. I believe that the song is pretty self-explanatory.
He's with a chick and she gets calls from other guys late into the morning. She is always "hush Hush" with her conversations and is playing him for a fool. Great song if you've ever put up with a whore, you can relate. |

schirs You're a gullable moron apparently. You're going to present what you think are facts to us at an attempt to make us perceive you're properly informed? Did you read that information out of TIME magazine. The Government lies to us constantly, and don't get me wrong, I love my Country, but politics are just lies, over lies, over lies. We waged war on the Middle east for oil, there is no other reason we'd of done that. Don't ever think it was for a justifiable reason. All the wars in the history of Earth have been because of Land (which entails resources) or religion. THAT is a fact.
Also, it's a brilliant song, I'm not a huge fan of Linkin Park but they won me over with this one. I'm not an anti-bush but I understand what they're getting at. Bush is one dumb mother fucker and it's time we get someone in the office with their priorities straight.
"When the Rich wage war, it's the poor who die". There isn't a better statement in that song, than that quote right there. |

| Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics

Listen "Guitarpunk150 " I'm just curious if you're mildly retarded with typing skills, or just a douche bag. Honestly, Fall Out Boy is POP music. They write intelligent lyrics and make it into a {very} catchy pop song. That's just what FOB does. If you can't accept that, then you're completely impervious to new music. Despite your attempts as to come off as open minded.
And I agree with most on this one. It's basically how they're saying they got one big hit and everyone jumped on the bandwagon. They're fucking sick of it. I mean, read the title, it's pretty straight-foward. |

Honestly, there is so much shit going on in this song, I don't know what to think of the meaning.
Granted, it seems he's fighting with depression, he went to the west to get his mind off of things. He tried the whole, move away from your problems and see if it'll get better.
Which he found out it's just temporary.
Also seems like he's fighting with Multiple Personality Disorder and is getting sick of his medication. It's all little bits straight foward to a point.
But I just can't seem to get the bigger picture.
Anyone have any ideas? |
