| Madonna – Candy Perfume Girl Lyrics

Don't know if this is true or not, but after I posted that theory above I started asking around for the true meaning and was told that, in an interview, Madonna said that she'd used magnetic poetry to randomly write the song's lyrics. Looking at the lyrics, I could definitely believe it, but, as I said, I'm not one hundred percent sure that it's the truth. |

It's about Sean Penn and the rejuvenating that his love has had on her. "True blue" was a favorite expression of his. |

| Madonna – Till Death Do Us Part Lyrics

This is my second-favorite Madonna song, behind only "Drowned World/Substitute for Love". It's about her relationship with Sean Penn, and how, even after all of the physical and emotional abuse, she always kept going back to him in the end. |

I love this song. Madonna said in an interview with Kurt Loder that she wrote it thinking about an actor, and I think she said in another interview that she'd based it on a relationship of her own. So, I'm thinking that the song is either about Sean Penn or Warren Beatty. |

The spoken part is from a Walt Whitman poem.
This is definitely one of my favorite Madonna songs. It's so beautiful. I think it's meaning is fairly self-explanatory, though. |

This is a song that Luis and Jose, two of the Blond Ambition dancers, wrote. Madonna sung backing vocals. It's about gay pig latin. |

I think this song is about unrequited love. She feels this burning, passionate love for this guy, but he tries to avoid falling for her.
There's also a sexual double meaning in some of the lyrics, "I hold the lock and you hold the key", which becomes more apparent when you watch the Blond Ambition performance. |

| Madonna – Live To Tell Lyrics

Well, the song is definitely about a secret, but Madonna has never given any hints as to what that secret is, so I don't think that we'll ever really know. I like the sexual abuse theory, but I also heard a theory a while back that the song might be about Madonna having been raped when she first moved to New York. I don't think that interpretation fits the lyrics as well as the sexual abuse theory, but it's still an interesting theory nonetheless. |

| Madonna – Like a Prayer Lyrics

While the line "I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there" does allude to fellatio, I don't think that the ENTIRE song is about oral sex. It's about loving someone so intensely that you feel completely safe around him/her, like the safety that you feel while praying.
I don't think that anyone is implying that the song is solely about relgion and has nothing to do with sex and love. The song uses religious imagery to describe a loving relationship, one that includes sex (and oral sex), but is not based solely on it. |

I love this song. It's so sad, but the melody is so lullaby-ish. It's about her mother, and how even though she's dead, her spirit still lives on inside and brings her joy. |

Very sad but beautiful song. It's about Christopher Flynn, her mentor, and Martin Burgoyne, one of her friends from the early '80s, who both died of AIDS. |

This song is basically her lashing out at all of her critics from the Erotica/Sex/Body of Evidence era. They can call her every name under the sun, but she doesn't give a shit and doesn't have any regrets. |

This is definitely one of my favorite on the CoaDF album. It's basically about Madonna wondering whether or not everything she's done to become famous and stay famous has been worth it, especially since "nothing lasts forever". |

This is such a beautiful song. I think that, even though Madonna had Lola and was very happy, there was also a part of her that was very lonely and very tired of searching for Mr. Right. I think that's what this song is about. |

| Madonna – Express Yourself Lyrics

I love this song. It's basically just about standing up for yourself in a relationship. She's begging women around the world to not go for "second-best" just because he treats them nicely in bed, but then is never there for them when they need it most. She wants women to find men that will make them feel beautiful and special and give them strength, rather than being with men that degrade and humiliate them.
She adds that, if the men won't show how they feel, that the women should leave, and if they really do love their women, they'll be "back on their knees to express" themselves. |

Alex, you've never heard this song before because Madonna only sang backing vocals on it. Lead vocals were by Nick Kamen, and the song was featured on his album. Madonna did write the song with Stephen Bray, though. |

This is my favorite Madonna song. It's about how she wanted a husband and a man to love so badly, but could never really find love, so settled for a "substitute for love". Then she had her daughter, and Lola became the most important thing in her life. Finding a man became less urgent. |

This is one of the few Madonna songs that I hate (though she only sings the backing vocals). It's about her co-writer and co-producer, André Betts, rapping about having sex with her. When his friends press him for more info, they realize that he did not, in fact, have sex with Madonna. |

I've been trying to figure out the meaning to this song for a long time now. I think it's about a very seductive, feminine woman that a man is deeply attracted to and wants very badly, but does not respect and believes to be just a silly "candy perfume girl". He becomes involved with her on this basis, but soon realizes that she's much more than that, and feels threatened. By his reaction, she reveals that it is he who is really the silly "candy perfume boy". |

I recall reading somewhere that this song was inspired by Andy Bird, one of Madonna's boyfriends in between Carlos Leon and Guy Ritchie. The line "I paid for you with tears / and swallowed all my pride" was particularly meant about him, I believe. |

| Madonna – Bad Girl Lyrics

I agree with missme. "Bad Girl" is about a woman who is in a relationship with a man that she loves very much, but cannot seem to open up to and be intimate with. As a result, she feels empty inside, and tries to fill the void of emotional intimacy with sex with other men. Her actions keep driving a wedge in between herself and her boyfriend, and she knows that she's hurting him, but she can't bring herself to let him go. |
